Oh, and as far as your Pennsylvania now has a choice comment, did I miss something? did Santorum run unopposed the last two times?
They also had a choice in 1994 and a choice in 2000.>>

Rickie has enjoyed his time on the sun and now it is time for him to go. It's true that the PA Democratic Party did not previously put up candidates with a chance to beat Santorum, but now they finally have. I don't agree with everything Casey may believe, but he is a huge improvement over Rickie.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette ran an article today titled "Santorum accuses Casey of 'Snooping' in Penn Hills", by James O'Toole. It talks about the Santorum response to a Penn Hills resident who looked in the window of Santorums alleged Penn Hills home to see--an empty house.

The santorum camp accused Mr. Vecchio of trespassing and snooping. They did not claim that santorum actually lives there. Since his kids are being homeschooled on their Virginia estate, I think it's an open question as to whether santorum is legally a resident of Pennsylvania.

zak,

the biggest reason it's an issue is because in Santorum's first run for Congress, he made the residency of his opponent a huge issue. I think the guy's name was Walden or something.

I don't expect a guy that lives in Pittsburgh to go home every night, or even every weekend, but it's a legitimate issue.

Viral Cyrus is partly right, Casey is not perfect. But at least Bob Casey is a closer reflection of his Pennsylvanian constituents than Santorum. And that will be borne out in the November election.

Yep. About the only thing good about Bob Casey Jr is he will be voting for the Democratic majority leader. He will be nothing if not a DINO, but he will add a number. Even a DINO counts towards a majority, and will swing committees our way.

And you do have to admit that he is to the left of Santorum. Not to mention that he isn't as corrupt, and that Bob Casey Jr actually lives in Penna, unlike the Senator from Leesburg.

For those of you keeping score at home, this is the same Bob Casey Jr who blew a 20 point lead to Rendell in the Democratic primaries in 2002.

Regardless of all that, if anyone things Pennachio or Sandals had a better chance of beating Santorum, I want some of what you're smokin.

I think the Democratic party nationally has a strong bench of young up and comers, but in PA, it's pretty weak. (Oh, and since i know that "oh yeah, how bout your side" counts as a valid arguement for many left-wing bloggers and commenters, I'll also point out that the Republican bench in PA is fairly weak too. Lynn Swann is a great man, but he's in totally over his head against Rendell.)

At least with Casey, Democrats have finally stopped letting the perfect be the enemy of the good and it seems like he'll get a ton of national support. Considering that the last time Santorum ran, he managed to win despite Al Gore winning PA at the top of the ticket, if Klink would've gotten even token support from the national party, you wouldn't have had to worry about Santorum for the last six years.

But, Klink was also pro-life, and pro-2nd Amendment, so he was cast aside. The rest of his record is in congress was far more progressive than any record Casey has.

Funny, that you should mention choice because as you probably know Mr. Casey is anti choice. How anti choice? He backed both of Bush's Supreme Court nominees, was against censure and backs the right for a pharmicist to refuse to give the O Dub a condom. Progressives in Pa fought against this guy but we didn't have any money. Also: Santorum has an excellent chance of beating Bob Casey. In fact, he's the only guy that the dems could nominate that he could beat probably...Or: here's another to put it...Your new democratic senator from Pennsylvania: Zell Leiberman. oh I'm so excited...
