Looks like the GOP strategy of using black faces is running aground.
Democratic incumbent Gov. Ed Rendell has opened up a 55 – 33 percent lead over Republican challenger Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steeler, in his race for reelection, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
This compares to a 47 – 37 percent Rendell lead in an April 5 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN uh-pe-ack) University poll.
The interesting number is that Rendell voters are 82% voting for Rendell, while Swann voters are 53% against Rendell and just 41% for Swann.
>> In related information:
Thirty-nine percent (39%) of Americans Approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his role as President and 60% Disapprove.
The President earns approval from 43% of white Americans, 7% of black Americans, and 34% of all other Americans.
Usually I’d be snarky and ask what was wrong with that 7%, but 7%??? You’d have to let a major American city drown and leave thousands of – largely black – Americans in a third world condition for days on end to poll as low as 7%!
>> And black cons? This is why we can’t take you seriously and why your movement is phony.
“This is the year of the black conservative voice, the residual from Clarence Thomas going on the Supreme Court and introducing black voters to the black conservative,” says Armstrong Williams, a black conservative radio talk show host.
Armstrong Williams, you’ll remember, was exposed as a paid lackey of the Bush administration, distributing covert propaganda through his tv show and column for the money men on Team Bush — with your tax dollars.
Shuck.
Jive.

You know, I don’t know what your criticism of Bush’s approval rating among African-Americans is all about. After all, his support in the black community has increased 250% since last October.
At this rate, he’ll be up to 10% by the one year anniversary of the drowning of New Orleans.
There goes Oliver in his infinite ignorance again calling black conservatives a ‘movement.’ I’ve already pointed out to you how this is completely wrong. Why do you keep repeating it?
And can you provide evidence that Armstrong Williams didn’t believe what he was writing about?
Answer: No.
But you’ll keep stamping your feet and repeating this bullshit over and over again. Just I like I said you do.
If it wasn t TRUE and he was PAID to say it& who gives a FUCK what he believed, you putz.
What do you mean if it wasn’t true? He was asked to promote legislation, namely the No Child Left Behind Act you DUMB FUCK.
And can you provide evidence that Armstrong Williams didn t believe what he was writing about?
If it wasn’t TRUE and he was PAID to say it…who gives a FUCK what he believed, you putz.
mr.curmudgeon is right. The administration had to PAY him to “believe” in it. Conservatives as a rule despise the department of education and it would take payoffs to get one to support anything that comes out of DoE.
It is a movement….of the bowel variety. To say that there is residual to Clarence Thomas is to assume there was anything there in the fist place. You can’t be the guy that helped dismantle the EEOC followed by replacing Thurgood Marshall on the Supreme Court only to try and destroy/reverse everything Marshall fought and stood for and expect to have any residuals.
Wingnut groups can front as many of the Uncle Ruckus All-Stars as they want. Black community will continue to flush that movement down the drain
Brother Corrado,
I think you more than adequately covered every single thing I would have said. Well Done. Well Said. Amen.
