Arizona Upset?
JD Hayworth is a bigtime member of the insane wing of the House GOP (and occasional tv guy), has been since 1995 and is as hardcore conservative as they come (he thinks Bush is too soft on immigration and had someone write him a whole book about it).
So why is his re-election not in the bag?
A new poll shows former Tempe mayor Harry Mitchell running close to Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth in a key U.S. House race.
A poll by SurveyUSA show Hayworth, a Republican, leading Mitchell, a Democrat, by a 50 percent to 45 percent margin.
Mitchell — a former state senator and chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party — is challenging the conservative Hayworth for his congressional seat in a district that includes Tempe, Scottsdale and Fountain Hills.
>> Harry Mitchell for Congress
>> (And – knock on wood – the next senator from Tennessee may very well be a black Democrat)

I just checked – Flake’s is more outer suburban than Hayworth’s.
My guess is that Hayworth’s suburban Phoenix district is one of the most Republican in the state. Where is Flake’s district?
You know, if he is actually insane, I don’t think any of us on the right side of the aisle should support him. Its one thing to to strongly disagree with a person, but if he is mentally ill, as Dr. OW alleges, its an alltogether different thing.
By-the-by. Sen Nelson, in Fla., voted FOR Bush’s tax bill. Does he now become a Senator NoName like Senator Lieberber-non-man? Love those southern Democrats. They know the right way way to vote when it comes down to the nitty gritty. Now thanks to Nelson, many, many more years of wrealth and prosperity for rich Republicans. Mr Rove’s Katherine Harris master plan worked.
