The Zarqawi Follies

Releasing this tape of Zarqawi (that we just happened to have lying around) is, I guess, supposed to be our way of showing his would-be followers how much of a dope the guy is. But what’s more interesting to me is that if the guy is such a clueless wonder, how come he’s still on the loose directing the murder of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians?

I can’t help thinking that this clown is just like the guy we just sentenced to life in prison: an incompetent also-ran who’s been pumped up by our propaganda machine to be some kind of big-time boogeyman.

The latest data I’ve seen on Iraq, indeed on the whole “terrorist” movement, is that there are no big boogeymen, just lots and lots of little boogeymen, and with more and more being created every time we flatten someone’s grandma’s house, blow up his uncle, or ass-rape his dad with a MagLite.

  2. Dude, we’ve got a videos of Bush picking his nose, flipping the bird, dropping a dog, being drunk off his ass at a wedding, and declaring a war over three years too early in a soldier costume, and he s still on the loose directing the murder of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians. This surprises you?

  3. qkslvr_wolf says:

Yes, but part of the problem is that they’re volunteering to be expendable resources.

  4. Dkelsmith says:

    Oliver,

By the looks of that tape, he knows nothing whatsoever about how to utilize light weapons. He was holding a SAW, and seemed to not know how to alleviate a stoppage. But, it is not necessary for an effective leader to be a good warrior. Unfortunately he inspires the people in that network to sacrifice everything for a chance to kill Americans.

He is far from someone we have inflated to a big time boogeyman. He is indeed a monster, and he is frightening to me. He obviously has no regard for his followers because he is willing to sacrifice them at every turn. Anyone who can sacrifice their troops as if they were an expendable resource is quite dangerous.

  5. Frank_D: The problem is that the same government that hyped that monster as a monster is NOW hyping him as a doofus.

  6. Frank_D says:

Dkel: The problem is that you’re trying to explain warfare to people who learned about “war” watching M.A.S.H. episodes: Zarqawi, you so crazy!

  7. Semanticleo says:

‘Z’ sociopath doesn’t need to be a warrior, but his ‘warriors’ need to be
warriors, don’t they? Did you see pvt doofus grab the weapon by
the muzzle? Bit warm isn’t it, scary warrior?

  8. Dugger says:

Get a grip. Zarqawi is an enemy combatant. A two star general on OUR side is fighting him with psyops. I say do anything humanly possible to diminish his effectiveness – even offering him a dirt nap.

    Dugger

  9. frameone says:

“I say do anything humanly possible to diminish his effectiveness – even offering him a dirt nap.”

… if only it weren’t for white guilt …

  10. I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend

But the psyops make me cynical again and again…

  11. riffle says:

As has been reported for years now, and recently confirmed, he’s “still on the loose” in part because the US didn’t take itje opportunities to kill him before the Iraq war.

At that time, rather than killing him, it was more convenient to use as an argument for war that Zarqawi running around in non-Saddam controlled northern Iraqi territory.

I’d have thought they wanted to kill him then, when they had a chance. Since they didn’t, why believe they really want to kill him now?

  12. Semanticleo says:

if only it weren t for white guilt &

    LMFAO

  13. BD says:

So he can’t shoot. That’s nice. Our soldiers don’t need to worry about getting shot by Zarqawi. They just have to worry about the uncounted numbers of his followers who can shoot. Or can rig an IED. Or can detonate a vest filled with dynamite.

I fail to see how the psyops are going to work against him. I doubt that most of Zarqawi’s or Bin Laden’s minions signed up because they thought he was a crackshot with a SAW. If Zarqawi lost both arms in a battle tomorrow, he’d still have as much influence–and possibly more, if he survived–as he does today, which is far too much.

The problem is that the war is being run by people who learned about “war” watching M.A.S.H episodes.
    Heh.

  15. y6y6y6 says:

The administration’s neener neener about the guy we can’t stop being a lousy soldier will be the neener neener Al Qaeda throws back at us. This, along with the Corbert thing is a great example of how Bush & Co doesn’t get it.

  16. Impor says:

BD-uh, as for the latest total of “uncounted” followers of Zarqawi I think the latest estimates vary from 30,000 to some 200,000 fighters. How many work for Zarqawi? A lot less than either number, and nothing like ‘uncounted’. Typical wingnut rhetoric. To repeat, Oliver’s question is if the guy is such a doofus, and from the video he certainly appears to be, why can’t we catch him? Any answers?

  17. No, Frank_D.

Why is our government (the current administration) now presenting him as a doofus when they (the current administration) portrayed him as a monster all those YEARS ago?

…must be one of those covert “secret, even in success” (or failure) plans Bush warned us about all those years ago.

  18. Frank_D says:

My question is this: If it’s so easy to catch this guy, based on your supposition that he seems woefully untrained in the handling of a machine gun, then you should have at least one plan to do so…
For a brand new Lincoln Zephyr, tell us that plan!
    Impor?
    Duros?
    Cleo?
    Goatchowder?
    Oliver?

  19. Frank_D says:

Do I really have to answer that for you? It’s called PsyOps…
They’re trying to embarass him. They’re betting he’ll become angry enough to do something foolish. Given the technological capabilities of the new Army and the CIA, it won’t be long…
I don’t know why you lefties think that loading your rhetoric somehow changes reality (example: “Why is our government … now presenting him as a doofus when they … portrayed him as a monster all those YEARS ago?” Ans. Because that was “years ago,” and this is “Now”).
Short answer: So you don’t have a plan…

  20. …uh-huh.

I’m guessing PsyOps works both ways: on one’s enemies and on one’s … um, er, uh …fellow citizens.

Frank_D, you and I will be arguing over what’s a threat to the United States for-ev-er because we’ll do a fine job of finding media to support our respective conventions and prejudices.

As for me, we’re the sole remaining superpower on the planet. No other country or ragtag bit of scurrying “terrorists” can threaten us… We should have been big enough to take the hit and, like the Pentagon, the WTC Twin Towers should have been rebuilt within a a year. Then we could have, should have, chased down those responsible for the attacks, caught them, prosecuted them, and punished them. And above all, we should have “owned” the situation should we decide to use military power. Instead, our military in Iraq gets hit every day, every single day.

But, my plans don’t matter ‘cuz I’m just a technical writer stuck in a cubicle in the bottom of the Quality Department–but, boy, if I ever get elected president I’ll declare myself emperor and then we get some real work done.

  21. Oh, and let me remind you, Saddam Hussein in Iraq had nothing to do with the September 11th, 2001 hijackers.

  22. Frank_D says:

First, FM, I noticed the “shift in the meme” from Saddam had nothing to do with terrorists to “Saddam had nothing to do with al Qaeda” to finally (?) “Saddam Hussein … had nothing to do with the September 11th, 2001 hijackers.”
I suppose if (when?) they find a connection between Saddam and the hijackers, the Meme will change to “Saddam never invited the hijackers over to the Palace for ribs and potato salad.”
    But I digress.
No other country or ragtag bit of scurrying terrorists can threaten us.
Of course they can — if by threaten, you mean harm Americans at will.
The WTC Twin Towers should have been rebuilt within a a year.
    You don’t know NYS / NYC politics…
The first World Trade Center took 11 years to build (!)
[We should have] caught them, prosecuted them, and punished them.
Yeah, that would have been terribly effective

  23. If the country can’t take a few shots to the proverbial nose without become a frightened, angry mob… maybe the folks who died at Lexington and Concord and Antietam and Gettysburg did so in vain.

Dubya swore to uphold the Constitution; self-admittedly outside-the-law activities by he and his administration in order to “protect” us show he’s failed.

I’m sorry some of our citizens got killed. But sometimes, one has to sacrifice everything to preserve what one is–even Jesus Christ knew that.

  24. duros62 says:

I don’t think that if we just call him names enough, he will give away his position. Do you?

  25. duros62 says:

    Frank
First of all, Mercury Zephyr sucks, so no thanks.
Secondly, we could start by, to paraphrase Nathan Arizona, stop looking in the one place we know he ain’t at.
Thirdly, I don’t consider it a very effective Psyops regimen to simply embarass one of the worst enemies of the state. Makes a good sound bite on Fox News, but how does it move the cause along?
    Al-qaeda’s Funniest Home Videos?

  26. moonbat monitor says:

the guy is a dope, and he was wearing New Balance tennis shoes. (american)

nice to see that you have his back though.

  27. Frank_D says:

No, duros, I don’t think he’s going to surrender, either.

Al Capone didn’t pay much attention to his tax returns, either.

  28. duros62 says:

Once again, I don’t know what that means. What does one have to do with the other. Another case of the moral equivalency department?
