Racists Get Behind Immigration Issue

Who have the right flank of the RNC locked arms with?

Extremists Declare ‘Open Season’ on Immigrants: Hispanics Target of Incitement and Violence takes a detailed look at how white supremacists, racist skinheads and others identifying with far-right extremist groups are using the national debate over immigration reform as a means to encourage likeminded racists to speak out, or even commit violent acts against immigrants. The full report was issued today at a special session at the ADL Shana Amy Glass National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

“It is time to shine the spotlight on those who have seized upon the immigration debate as an opportunity to advance their agenda of hate, bigotry and white supremacy,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. “This report reminds us that there is a direct connection between the national policy debate and the atmosphere surrounding the daily lives of immigrants. Extremist groups are seeking to exploit the flow of foreign workers into this country to spread a message of xenophobia, to promote hateful stereotypes and to incite bigotry and violence against Hispanics, regardless of their status as citizens.”

The extreme fringe of the anti-immigration movement includes white supremacist groups, anti-Hispanic hate groups masquerading as immigration reform groups, and vigilante border patrol groups who have conducted armed patrols along the borders of the United States.

Cue a Republican shrieking “Liberals are the real racists! Skinheads are the real victims!”

  2. Gravatar Icon 2 frameone

    Let’s take the skinheads bowling!

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 drpedro

Can anyone show me any connection in that article to the RNC?

Or is this another one of Ollies “Guilt by imagination” threads?”

You know what might be fun too? Lets compare how many murders were committed by white supremacist against illegal aliens, against how many murders were committed by illegal aliens themselves…..

I will anxiously await the results.

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 Dana

Jadegold suggested, following Dr Pedro’s comment, that he might wish to research the name John Tanton.

I hadn’t heard of him, so I did a quick google search, and yeah, I found a guy who ain’t real happy about illegal immigration, but I didn’t find any reference that he committed any murders of illegal aliens.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 drpedro

    Why?

I am interested in how the article depicted here by Oliver, in all his yellow-journalistic glory, demostrates a connection to the RNC.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 Jadegold

“Dr”P: You might wish to research the name John Tanton.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 Jadegold

    Dana:

    Buy a clue.

The issue is the GOP’s link to rightwing extremist groups WRT immigration.

Tanton’s organization sponsors most of such groups and Tanton is a big GOP donor.

    The Puppeteer

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 Jadegold

Many of the groups mentioned in the article are funded/sponsored by Tanton’s organization.

And Tanton’s organization is a big donor to the GOP.

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 Jay C

Jadegold is back infesting Oliver’s comments section. The average IQ just dropped 50 points and the drunk factor went up.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 Marty

I guess you could say that the “right flank” is also locking arm with union Democrats too if you want to put it that way, young Oliver.

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 SaveFarris

I guess this means that the DNC has “locked arms” with Code Pink, La Raza, ANSWER, and the Communist Party.

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Wilbur

I guess this means that the DNC has locked arms with Code Pink, La Raza, ANSWER, and the Communist Party.

As I’m sure you know, SaveFarris, this is exactly what the army of AM radio screamers, Faux news pundits, blogbots and keyboard chickenhawks alleges on a regular basis.

I love the way you guys squeal like piggies when you get some of your own back.

There is nothing in the story, or, for that matter, the comments that links any of the anti - immigration people, or their comments to Republicans.

    Period.

When will you leftie slanderes learn that when A donates money to B that does no “associate” B with A.
If I donate money to the Salesian Missions, that doesn’t make me a missionary.

I know how desperate you are slime Bush and the Republicans (see Oliver’s silly comment of 2:06 AM - “Why can’t Santa come tonight, instead of tomorrow?”), but you’ll just have to try a little harder.

Oliver, in response to your McCarthyesque comments of 2:19 AM:
    1) By whom?
    2) From whom?
    3) Savage has been a Republican spokesman since?
    4) Ditto Wildmon (and, what racist statement did he make?)
    5) Limbaugh made an anti - Democrat party statement
6)Asman’s and Cavuoto (as interpreted by you) could be dumb, but they’re not racist.

Move along, there’s nothing to see here.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 SaveFarris

As I m sure you know, SaveFarris, this is exactly what the army of AM radio screamers, Faux news pundits, blogbots and keyboard chickenhawks alleges on a regular basis

And when they do, you call them over the top extremist hatemongers, and unworthy of public discourse.

Never again do I want to hear from this website about how virtuous your side is compared to those “filthy” Republicans.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 factcheck

So you see a moral equivalence between RW racists and groups like Code Pink who are seeking peace?

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 factcheck

So, according to you, in order for Oliver to post about the racists that comprise much of the Republican electorate, he must also post about every transgression that is potentially race related by anyone that is African-American?

Sounds pretty racist on your part.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Cyrus the Virus

It’s really interesting, Oliver, that of all the links you privide, all you do is give examples of rhetoric.

Here in Philly, there are major problems with Mexican immigrants in South Philly being robbed and assaulted, but these attacks are at the hands of young, black men. I guess that’s okay with you.

In Southwest Philly (where i grew up) there have been numerous incidents of LEGAL immigrants from West Africa being assaulted at school and on their way home from school. Young, black men again. But, again, that’s okay with you.

You can bring up the rhetoric of nitwits like Limbaugh and Savage all you want, but it’s just that, rhetoric.

But, since that’s the game you wanna play, I’ll also point out that Marty is quite correct. some of the harshest anti-illegal immigrant rhetoric comes from union members who happen to be Democrats. Again, I doubt we’ll see any of that being condemned by you because apparently it’s okay to be a bigot as long as you still pull the “D” lever in the voting booth.

Really, kiddo, get away from your computer and go out in the real world every now and then.

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Cyrus the Virus

Oh my God, a liberal called someone a racist without backing it up!! I’m shocked!

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Frank_D

I’d love to hear how much you consider to be “much”, and where you got your information.
None of the quotes or comments in this thread have yet to qualify that any Republican, anywhere is a racist.
You do realize, I hope, that any dialogue about Immigration is impossible, if there are only two “sides” — the “progressive, enlightened” side, and the “racist” side.

“You do realize, I hope, that any dialogue about Immigration is impossible, if there are only two sides the progressive, enlightened side, and the racist side.”

Several years ago a self-described “bleeding heart moderate” local talk radio host observed it’s hard to have a dialogue about any issue if there are only “my side” and the “spawn of Satan” side. He’s off the air now because of low ratings. I guess there’s a lesson there somewhere.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 SaveFarris

Only a matter of time before dugger equates this statement to a death threat against Ann Coulter.

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 zak822

Two things. One, a lot of Democrats believe that illegal immigration is a real problem. We’re not real noisy about it right now, but it’s a background issue that could affect races. It’s a serious security hole, and the illegals do drive down wages in jobs Americans want and are currently doing, at least in areas where we have not been displaced by illegal immigrants. Construction, hotel housekeepers and nursing home attendants are all jobs being done by Americans, therefore, they are jobs Americans want.

Two, this stuff “Here in Philly, there are major problems with Mexican immigrants in South Philly being robbed and assaulted, but these attacks are at the hands of young, black men. I guess that s okay with you.

In Southwest Philly (where i grew up) there have been numerous incidents of LEGAL immigrants from West Africa being assaulted at school and on their way home from school. Young, black men again.”

is just one more attempt to paint young black men as dangerous and as villans. I have been to Philly and have spent a lot of time there. I can give directions to the locals; I know the area that well. Young Mexican men are at least as likely to be the attackers as are young black men. Mexican gangs are quite capable of taking care of themselves. They don’t need the protection of the poster.

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 duros62

So maybe it’s simply young men that are the real problem…

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 Dana

Duros, allow me to suggest that you read The Philadelphia Inquirer, a very liberal newspaper in a very Democratic town, for a month or so, and see if even that august voice of tolerance and liberalism isn’t telling you that the problems in foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia aren’t related primarily to young black males.

Perhaps you might check out this story, Addressing the plight of young black men, about a

two-day symposium, organized by Penn social scientist Elijah Anderson and including many of the nation’s elite black scholars, comes after weeks of media attention and results from recent studies that indicate the situation of many young African men is worsening, even as black women and other minorities find success.

Recent statistics have shown that, when compared with their white counterparts and African American women, black men lag in college-graduation rates; are more likely to kill or be killed by gunfire in urban areas such as Philadelphia; and are overrepresented in the prison system.

While the article doesn’t point it out, the reason that black men lag behind black women in college graduation rates is that they drop out of high school at far-too-high rates, approaching 50% in Philly; they end their careers before they ever have a chance to start them.

Of course, Zak mentioned that it is just as likely to be Mexican gangs, and the Inquirer had this article about Kensington’s killing streets, in which the “Latin Kings” have moved in.

Please, don’t let an aversion to seeming racist allow you to fool yourselves: this is primarily a problem for minority populations. There is something within the urban minority sub-cultures which influences the people caught within them to engage in self-destructive activity. It’s too easy to dismiss people who mention the problem, and say that they must be racists. After all, I’m white, so when I mention the problems of the inner city subculture, it’s easy to criticize me as a racist.

But it’s a bit more difficult to criticize Elijah Anderson as a racist, and he has said the same thing I have, albeit in different words. Dr Anderson is apparently not concerned about demagoguery; he is concerned about people, his people, people who are from the same group from which he arose.

Unfortunately, too many people on the left of the political spectrum are more concerned about image than reality. About a year ago, the Philadelphia Daily News a tabloid paper published by the same company that owns the Inquirer, published a group montage of Philadelphia’s most wanted criminals — and all of them were black men. The outcry wasn’t that so many of the worst thugs in Philly were black, but that the Daily News had printed a montage which showed everybody that they were all black; there was less concern about what black men in the community were doing to themselves and their neighborhoods than there was about the freaking image it projected.

  34. Gravatar Icon 34 Cyrus the Virus

zak, go to any website that documents crime statistics and you’ll find out that you’re flat out wrong. And I highly doubt you can give directions to locals. Knowing how to get to Pat’s or Geno’s for a cheesesteak or being able to tell some tourist how to get to the Art Museum steps so they can see where Rocky ran up them doesn’t mean you have the slightest freakin clue about what things are like here.

There’s a reason why, when they’re home from work, Mexican immigrants don’t venture far away from a small area around Snyder Ave, east of broad (i highly doubt you even know where that is, despite your claims), and that’s because they’re major targets, especially with the pretadors who know they get paid in cash.

But, by all means, show me where Mexican immigrants are getting arrested in large numbers for anything other than occassional pot possession.

But, I’m open. Show me any statistic you can find for the city of Philadelphia that shows Mexican on Black crime to be worse, or anywhere even close to equal, to that in the other direction. And, that’s even taking into account that a lot of Mexicans are highly unlikely to report being the victim of a crime since they’re illegal and don’t want to go to the police.

  35. Gravatar Icon 35 Dana

Cyrus, I think you’d find that, in Philly, the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by blacks are other blacks, the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by Hispanics are other Hispanics, and the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by whites are other whites. Yeah, there’s some crossover, but most of the crime stays within the group.

One thing that a lot of people don’t realize is just how segregated Philadelphia really is. Yeah, the census statistics say that the city is reasonably evenly balanced, but ask yourself: how many blacks live in Chestnut Hill?

  36. Gravatar Icon 36 Dana

One place where most conservatives (though not this conservative) dropped the ball was on Louis Farrakhan’s Million Man March back in the mid 1990s. Mr Farrakhan is certainly all of the things that conservatives have said about him, a racist and an anti-Semite, but the message of the Million Man March wasn’t about any of that; it was a message that black men needed to do more within the black community to help each other and the community. At least at that time, Mr Farrakhan was saying the right thing, and much of the white community didn’t listen, because they couldn’t see past who the speaker was to listen to his message.

  37. Gravatar Icon 37 hrdkandie02

This is a comment I heard by a man on a radio station. He said and im paraphrasing…. if illegal immigrants get granted citizenship they will want the jobs that American citizens are doing right now…then who will do the “so called” jobs that Americans wont do then? What does everyone else think about this? I think it makes a very good point!

  38. Gravatar Icon 38 Frank_D

I don’t think there are jobs that “Americans won’t do.”

  39. Gravatar Icon 39 Dana

Frank, I’ll lead you to this story on the greatest website in the world, about some of the jobs that Mexicans are willing to do, which just happen to be the type of jobs ready-mix companies can’t get Americans to do.

And I’ll add this: if a job involves using a shovel for most of the work, you won’t find many Americans who will do it.

  40. Gravatar Icon 40 Frank_D

He’s done that job. He describes it as nasty and difficult, but he’s done it. Even you are saying that a job with a shovel, is a job that not many Americans will do.
    But some American will.
And, who says that whoever does that job shouldn’t learn English, and make plans to stay here a while?
Sure. the “last group off the boat” gets the dirty jobs, but that might be because being in America long enough can spoil a person.

  41. Gravatar Icon 41 moonbat monitor

believe it or not, after seeing the arrogant and disrespectful ways these people that are for this bogus “immigrant rights” movement have behaved, many people won’t really care if illegals start getting pummeled.

    what say all of you?

  42. Gravatar Icon 42 Dana

Fabulous Frank, when you say “He s done that job. He describes it as nasty and difficult, but he s done it,” you are referring to me; that’s my site!

And I can tell you the difficulty in assigning that job to other Americans, because I’ve had to try and get other employees to do it, and it has proven next to impossible. that’s why concrete companies hire Mexicans to do that work.

  43. Gravatar Icon 43 Frank_D

Yeah, Dana, I didn’t know that! (duh!)
“next to impossible” = not impossible.
Stop trying to wrestle me to the ground over a very small point.
Suppose I said, “Yes, you’re right, Dana, you can’t get an American to do that job. Now name another.”
    Then what?
We play this game, until you come up with 10 jobs?
    What would that prove?
OK, I’ll amend my statement: There may be 10 jobs Americans won’t do.
The FACT is, that Mexicans bus tables, work in landscaping, pump gas, and do hundreds of jobs that Americans would gladly do. So the implication that we “need” these immigrants to do jobs that are so unpleasant that Americans won’t do them is false.
And I ask again, why must an employer hire illegal immigrants to do these unpleasant jobs? Are you saying that illegal immigrants work harder than legal immigrants?
I don’t want to know what unpleasant jobs Mexican do, I want to know what unpleasant jobs they do that Americans refuse to do.
Maybe I should start reading your blog once a month, instead of my regular once a week.
I thought you were a sensible guy.

m - m: I hope you don’t mean that beating up this illegal immigrant is OK because of the attitude of that illegal immigrant.
I was just thinking about the boycott tomorrow, and it occurred to me that many Mexicans, legal or illegal, may be hiding out tomorrow, for their own safety, because they want no part of this, and don’t want to be confused with those who do.
My (Puerto Rican) wife is keeping our teenagers home from school tomorrow. She’s afraid they’ll get grief from white kids who know their mother is Puerto Rican, or grief from Hispanics because they look white.
There are a lot of Hispanics where I live, and things were going well until lately. Tomorrow may change all that for a long time to come.
But, of course, the liberals haven’t taken off their rose colored glasses yet.
    Wait until Tuesday.
If Michelle Malkin is right, their 16th minute of fame will be over. I hope.

The only thing that I can tell you, Frank, is that I have been (past tense, but not long past) the man responsible for trying to find the people to chip out concrete mixers and shovel under plants and tail pulleys and dock hoppers. Almost everyone who even seeks such work, around the Philly burbs, is Hispanic. And when you do get a “real American” to apply, and you hire him, they have, in my experience, been far less productive, and they quit (without notice) within a few days.

You did point out, correctly, that immigrants also do work that Americans will do. It’s also true that the unemployment rate is about 4.8%, a low figure. If Americans are almost fully employed, and illegal immigrants are still able to find jobs, it must mean that there are jobs out there for them, more jobs than we have American workers to fill.

A lot of my conservative readers don’t like to admit this, but we have illegal immigration because we want illegal immigration. While we may vote, every couple of years, for the politicians who promise to “do something” about illegal immigration, we also vote, every single day, for illegal immigration, by buying the goods and services produced by illegal immigrants. They are coming here because we are paying them to come here!

  46. Gravatar Icon 46 Frank_D

Since I can’t pretend to know whether the person who stood in the assembly line was a legal or an illegal immigrant, I couldn’t choose to not buy a product made by an illegal immigrant, if I wanted to.
I think boycotts are foolish, anyway, kind of like saying, “I’ll show you! I won’t buy something I really like, because I like you less (or hate you more?)!”
If they are here illegally, they should not be “caught and released”; they should be caught, and driven, not to some Federal building, but right back over the border. Their fake ID, if they have any, should be confiscated. Whatever true information can be obtained should be obtained, in case they return, and their American dollars should be confiscated, converted immediately to Pesos at the prevailing rate, and off they go!
If you can’t prevent them from returning, you can make it expensive to get caught.

Way to wash your hands of it, Frank! You might be (and, in the aggregate, almost certainly are) buying a product made by an illegal immigrant, thereby paying the wages that have brought him here, but because you don’t know, personally, absolutely, that an illegal was somehow involved, it’s none of your responsibility.

And then you complain that they are here, after you paid them to come here, but, because you didn’t know which dollars you spent for which particular goods that paid the illegal’s wages, you have no responsibility at all in the matter.

On my own site, in The Immigration Conundrum, I list (near the end) four things that have to be done to actually get rid of illegal immigrants who are here. I also say that they are very hard to do, will involve economic sacrifice on the part of good Americans like you and me, and that we’ll never do them. Put simply, it’s a program to attack illegal immigration from the demand side: once we stop a demand for illegal immigration (buying the things they produce), they’ll stop coming, and the ones here will have to return home.

Think of it like the “War on Drugs.” We’ve been attacking the supply side for decades, going after foreign growers and drug kingpins and local dealers, and we haven’t done one damned thing to actually stop drugs; as long as the demand for drugs exists and the profits are high, someone will step forward to supply the drugs.
