The extreme fringe of the anti-immigration movement includes white supremacist groups, anti-Hispanic hate groups masquerading as immigration reform groups, and vigilante border patrol groups who have conducted armed patrols along the borders of the United States.

In Southwest Philly (where i grew up) there have been numerous incidents of LEGAL immigrants from West Africa being assaulted at school and on their way home from school. Young, black men again. But, again, that’s okay with you.

Two things. One, a lot of Democrats believe that illegal immigration is a real problem. We’re not real noisy about it right now, but it’s a background issue that could affect races. It’s a serious security hole, and the illegals do drive down wages in jobs Americans want and are currently doing, at least in areas where we have not been displaced by illegal immigrants. Construction, hotel housekeepers and nursing home attendants are all jobs being done by Americans, therefore, they are jobs Americans want.

is just one more attempt to paint young black men as dangerous and as villans. I have been to Philly and have spent a lot of time there. I can give directions to the locals; I know the area that well. Young Mexican men are at least as likely to be the attackers as are young black men. Mexican gangs are quite capable of taking care of themselves. They don’t need the protection of the poster.
So maybe it’s simply young men that are the real problem…
Duros, allow me to suggest that you read The Philadelphia Inquirer, a very liberal newspaper in a very Democratic town, for a month or so, and see if even that august voice of tolerance and liberalism isn’t telling you that the problems in foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia aren’t related primarily to young black males.

Please, don’t let an aversion to seeming racist allow you to fool yourselves: this is primarily a problem for minority populations. There is something within the urban minority sub-cultures which influences the people caught within them to engage in self-destructive activity. It’s too easy to dismiss people who mention the problem, and say that they must be racists. After all, I’m white, so when I mention the problems of the inner city subculture, it’s easy to criticize me as a racist.
But it’s a bit more difficult to criticize Elijah Anderson as a racist, and he has said the same thing I have, albeit in different words. Dr Anderson is apparently not concerned about demagoguery; he is concerned about people, his people, people who are from the same group from which he arose.
Unfortunately, too many people on the left of the political spectrum are more concerned about image than reality. About a year ago, the Philadelphia Daily News a tabloid paper published by the same company that owns the Inquirer, published a group montage of Philadelphia’s most wanted criminals — and all of them were black men. The outcry wasn’t that so many of the worst thugs in Philly were black, but that the Daily News had printed a montage which showed everybody that they were all black; there was less concern about what black men in the community were doing to themselves and their neighborhoods than there was about the freaking image it projected.
zak, go to any website that documents crime statistics and you’ll find out that you’re flat out wrong. And I highly doubt you can give directions to locals. Knowing how to get to Pat’s or Geno’s for a cheesesteak or being able to tell some tourist how to get to the Art Museum steps so they can see where Rocky ran up them doesn’t mean you have the slightest freakin clue about what things are like here.
There’s a reason why, when they’re home from work, Mexican immigrants don’t venture far away from a small area around Snyder Ave, east of broad (i highly doubt you even know where that is, despite your claims), and that’s because they’re major targets, especially with the pretadors who know they get paid in cash.
But, by all means, show me where Mexican immigrants are getting arrested in large numbers for anything other than occassional pot possession.
But, I’m open. Show me any statistic you can find for the city of Philadelphia that shows Mexican on Black crime to be worse, or anywhere even close to equal, to that in the other direction. And, that’s even taking into account that a lot of Mexicans are highly unlikely to report being the victim of a crime since they’re illegal and don’t want to go to the police.
Cyrus, I think you’d find that, in Philly, the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by blacks are other blacks, the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by Hispanics are other Hispanics, and the vast majority of the victims of crimes committed by whites are other whites. Yeah, there’s some crossover, but most of the crime stays within the group.
One thing that a lot of people don’t realize is just how segregated Philadelphia really is. Yeah, the census statistics say that the city is reasonably evenly balanced, but ask yourself: how many blacks live in Chestnut Hill?
One place where most conservatives (though not this conservative) dropped the ball was on Louis Farrakhan’s Million Man March back in the mid 1990s. Mr Farrakhan is certainly all of the things that conservatives have said about him, a racist and an anti-Semite, but the message of the Million Man March wasn’t about any of that; it was a message that black men needed to do more within the black community to help each other and the community. At least at that time, Mr Farrakhan was saying the right thing, and much of the white community didn’t listen, because they couldn’t see past who the speaker was to listen to his message.
This is a comment I heard by a man on a radio station. He said and im paraphrasing…. if illegal immigrants get granted citizenship they will want the jobs that American citizens are doing right now…then who will do the “so called” jobs that Americans wont do then? What does everyone else think about this? I think it makes a very good point!

Frank, I’ll lead you to this story on the greatest website in the world, about some of the jobs that Mexicans are willing to do, which just happen to be the type of jobs ready-mix companies can’t get Americans to do.

And I can tell you the difficulty in assigning that job to other Americans, because I’ve had to try and get other employees to do it, and it has proven next to impossible. that’s why concrete companies hire Mexicans to do that work.

The FACT is, that Mexicans bus tables, work in landscaping, pump gas, and do hundreds of jobs that Americans would gladly do. So the implication that we “need” these immigrants to do jobs that are so unpleasant that Americans won’t do them is false.
And I ask again, why must an employer hire illegal immigrants to do these unpleasant jobs? Are you saying that illegal immigrants work harder than legal immigrants?
I don’t want to know what unpleasant jobs Mexican do, I want to know what unpleasant jobs they do that Americans refuse to do.

I was just thinking about the boycott tomorrow, and it occurred to me that many Mexicans, legal or illegal, may be hiding out tomorrow, for their own safety, because they want no part of this, and don’t want to be confused with those who do.
My (Puerto Rican) wife is keeping our teenagers home from school tomorrow. She’s afraid they’ll get grief from white kids who know their mother is Puerto Rican, or grief from Hispanics because they look white.
There are a lot of Hispanics where I live, and things were going well until lately. Tomorrow may change all that for a long time to come.
But, of course, the liberals haven’t taken off their rose colored glasses yet.

A lot of my conservative readers don’t like to admit this, but we have illegal immigration because we want illegal immigration. While we may vote, every couple of years, for the politicians who promise to “do something” about illegal immigration, we also vote, every single day, for illegal immigration, by buying the goods and services produced by illegal immigrants. They are coming here because we are paying them to come here!
Since I can’t pretend to know whether the person who stood in the assembly line was a legal or an illegal immigrant, I couldn’t choose to not buy a product made by an illegal immigrant, if I wanted to.
I think boycotts are foolish, anyway, kind of like saying, “I’ll show you! I won’t buy something I really like, because I like you less (or hate you more?)!”
If they are here illegally, they should not be “caught and released”; they should be caught, and driven, not to some Federal building, but right back over the border. Their fake ID, if they have any, should be confiscated. Whatever true information can be obtained should be obtained, in case they return, and their American dollars should be confiscated, converted immediately to Pesos at the prevailing rate, and off they go!
If you can’t prevent them from returning, you can make it expensive to get caught.

On my own site, in The Immigration Conundrum, I list (near the end) four things that have to be done to actually get rid of illegal immigrants who are here. I also say that they are very hard to do, will involve economic sacrifice on the part of good Americans like you and me, and that we’ll never do them. Put simply, it’s a program to attack illegal immigration from the demand side: once we stop a demand for illegal immigration (buying the things they produce), they’ll stop coming, and the ones here will have to return home.
Think of it like the “War on Drugs.” We’ve been attacking the supply side for decades, going after foreign growers and drug kingpins and local dealers, and we haven’t done one damned thing to actually stop drugs; as long as the demand for drugs exists and the profits are high, someone will step forward to supply the drugs.
