The War On Terror..

Is apparently going so well that Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi have enough leisure time while “on the run” to record audio and video tapes.

    From your link:

The video appears just days after Iraq named a new prime minister, who is seeking to form a new government.

    Progress.

  2. drpedro says:

If you are living in a cave, and can’t see the light of day, you have NOTHING but time on your hands!

    LOL

  3. Yeah “progress” like all those elections were “progress”. We just had to sacrifice a few thousand American lives for that “progress”.

  4. Rheinhard says:

Shall we start a betting pool for how long it will be until the Little Emperor becomes disenchanted with this shiny new Iraqi prime minister and starts issuing demands that the Iraqistanis pick a new one that will make him happy?

  5. midderpidge says:

    DrDoper would know.

  6. Dugger says:

Once again, progressives are in the position of using terrorist propaganda as a weapon against our democratically elected presdient. Think about it. Terrorists release a statement and instantly its turnred around and used against the Pres by progressives. Just one of your ‘handy’ weapons I guess. I mean you both have he same aim – get rid of the hated Bush.

I have this dream of a Democrat getting elected and then coming to the military and saying “OK boys and girls, lets forget all that stuff in the past and all of us together go get those terrorists, but don’t shoot at them or damage their fragile psyches. ”

“You sure you want us Nazis to do that Mr Prez? Why not go round up that big army of progressives thats always criticizing us while we risk our lives and have them spill their blood. We’ll second guess them over a latte at Starbucks. Their’s a trillion of ‘em on the streets of Portland and Seattle panhandling and prosletyzing. A vertable ‘people;s army.’ Have at it.”

  7. factcheck says:

Why don’t conservatives care about killing Osama bin Laden or Zarquawi? Why are they still breathing air? Why don’t you criticize your president for “not thinking about him much”? Why aren’t we using our military resources to find them and kill them?

I want terrorists dead. Why don’t conservatives?

  8. factcheck says:

I doubt that Johnny Cochrane would be defending anyone, since he is dead. The rest of your rant doesn’t really merit a response.

  9. Dugger says:

    factcheck,

“I want terrorists dead. Why don t conservatives? ”

You sure about that? Maybe you mean after the trial in court and if the jury finds them guilty (lets remember OJ is still free, out there hunting for Nicole’s killer, and he went before a jury). Annd after all, the number one progressive in the whole land has said:

” I’ve resisted pronouncing a sentence before guilt is found. I will have this old-fashioned notion that even with people like Osama, who is very likely to be found guilty, we should do our best not to, in positions of executive power, not to prejudge jury trials.”

BTW, would you insist he be tried in a state with the death penalty? Would you be worried when Johnny Cochrane agrees to defend Osama and insists that to be tried by his peers, Islamic clerics. Maybe Democratic Rep Cynthia McKinney will be a character witness and explain the alternative theiry that Bush and the Oil Barons set peace-loving Osama up.

  10. frameone says:

While were on the subject, why is that the Right views most of our basic, fundamental ideals — free speech, due process, balance of powers — as “weaknesses” in our system?

  11. midderpidge says:

Hey Dugger, the incompetence of the Bush Administration in capturing Bin Laden is just one of the weapons the terrorists use against us. They use it Afghanistan where 4+years after invasion the Taliban is making a comeback. They are using it in Iraq where insurgents and terrorists kill our soldiers in the chaos Bush failed to prepare for.

Are you saying the terrorists don’t take heart from the living example of a man who killed three thousand Americans and created a national feeling of terror and insecurity in the US? Every time he speaks he thumbs his nose and says “I got away with it” and tells his supporters that his efforts can bear fruit.

Lastly, stop being an ass. Do you remember 9-11? Death destruction, flame, people plummeting off collapsing buildings, dead firemen, etc? I mean, right wingies have used 9-11 to justify pre-emptive war on flimsy evidence, torture, secret prisons, domestic wiretaps, the list goes on; but they don’t think the rest of us have a right to complain that the man responsible for those attacks is not a priority of the Bush Administration and still walks free. Get real.

  12. frameone says:

“(lets remember OJ is still free, out there hunting for Nicole s killer, and he went before a jury)”

Nice to see that you have no faith in the American justice system, Dugger. Way to embrace your inner fascist: “Summary executions for everyone!”

The questions of whether Bin Laden should get a trial or be shot on the spot, however, will have to wait until we actually catch the guy, right? The fact that we haven’t should reflect poorly on this administration. Are you telling me that you principled thnkers on the right wouldn’t hang a free bin laden around President Gore’s neck? Please. You’ve been blaming Clinton for 9-11 since the day it happened. Where does the buck stop now? Apparently nowhere since trying to hold President Bush accountable for anything is akin to loving terrorists and hating America. You guys are priceless.

  13. buma says:

The bin Laden tapes just show how desperate they are, in the last throes of their movement. Further proof that Bush’s resolve and leadership are turning the corner. Mission accomplished.

  14. factcheck says:

I certainly don’t think the troops are incompetent. Noone on the Democratic side of the aisle does. We do, believe, they have limitations. Which is they can’t catch someone in Pakistan/Afghanistan when they are in Iraq. That is the president’s responsibility to put them where they can catch the terrorists.

You DO want to catch the terrorists, right?

  15. Dugger says:

    factcheck,

Of course Johnny Cochrane is dead. Think I didn’t know that? What better way to tug at the juries heart strings than… Never mind. One for you.

    Hey mitter,

I don’t think the troops have been incompetent. Doubt you do. So do you think they are telling Bush of ways to get Osama and he’s just not doing it? Really, really believe that? He’d be a political power house if he captured Osama. Why, then, wouldn’t he do it? That stump you? OK. Exactly what executive decisions would you or one of your fictional books-cooked liberal TV president’s make that would guarantee the capture of Osama?? The world is waiting. I will personally vote for the Democrat who comes up with a plan that the military endorses that guarantees the capture of Osama. Now, the plan please.

    Don’t strain yourself, Stretch.

“Using terrorist propaganda as a weapon against our…president”? How about “using the fact that these terrorists are still at large to point out that Mr. ‘Smoke-em-outta-their-holes-dead-or-alive’ has failed to deliver on his boasts”?

Or is any criticism of The Decider to be considered abetting the terrorists?

  17. Rounds77 says:

Dugger, if we committed the same level of resources in going after Bin Laden as we have in capturing Saddam and occupying Iraq, don’t you think it’d be more likely BL would have been caught by now?

Oh Wait, there was the priority of a huge profit for Halliburton.

  18. duros62 says:

Even money says they catch him in late October.

  19. drpedro says:

No rounds, just like putting 12 geniuses in a room together for a year won’t solve the energy crisis..

And Duros, we have heard that prediction for the last three years….maybe THIS year you will be right on!

  20. Frank_D says:

You DO want to catch the terrorists, right?
Actually, no. I want them hanging from lamp posts from Al Faw to Zakhu

duros: I’ll take that bet, and bet you double or nothing that it will be between MAR and SEP ’08.

“If he wants to impress his men, he should take a picture on a busy street patrolled by one of our brigades,” said Sgt. Norberto Carrasqauillo, 36, of Orange County. “I don’t think he would have the courage to face any army troop. He’s the type of guy who coerces other people into dying for his cause.”
    Orale, Norberto!

  21. Dugger says:

    Rounds,

A decent question save for the uninformed snark at the end.

The answer to which is no. What you, mitter and factcheck and many Bush opponents do not take into consideration is that Bush really wants to catch Osama (hey, so does -I believe-every Democrat – well maybe our own Cynthia McKinney is questionable – but every other one) . Its a decent human thing to do, but even if you hate Bush, just consider that it would help him politically – enormously. The military is advising him on Osama and the hunt for him – every day. Don’t you think if the military had even a good idea of a way to get Osama, Bush would be after it like a duck on a june bug. Like any other politician. “I captured Osama!!!!” Instant national hero.
Now you may think we could divert resources from Iraq and then have enough to do it. Last known location was Pakistan – a sovereign nation who has been hunting him. Now lets just say we (unilaterally) say scr*w Pakistan and we are going to invade their country and find Osama. Take all the troops out of Iraq – say 150,000. Now roughly 2/3s of those are support troops and not actual ground pounders. Gives us a rounded 50,000 troops to cover Pakistan’s 300,000 plus square miles (think 2 Californias – in other words one soldier for 60 square miles) Think they can do that? Pakistan with an army of 700,000 hasn’t found him. And while you are blundering around in Pakistan, guess what ? Osama might just mosey over to … tada — Iraq and join his terrorist buddy Abu Abbas. Or go any other number of places.

If it could be done, it would have been done. Argue against Iraq on its own merits, not the false assertion that Iraq stands in the way of getting Osama.

  22. Frank_D says:

“If we can put a man on the moon, we should be able to catch bin Laden.”

Now, if only he was on the moon.

  23. duros62 says:

    Dugger
Ok, I see what you’re saying. But isn’t Pakistan our ally? Why would we have to invade? Couldn’t we tell ‘em we’re coming in to look around? Maybe help their guys llok for him with our guys? (They’re probably still mad about the whole India thing, though.) And if they refuse access, would that be an act of aiding and abetting, harboring a fugitive? And what about the family ties to the Bush clan? They may not want to find him as a favor to his father, a shareholder of the Carlysle Group.
Iraq doesn’t stand in the way, but it certainly is a distraction.
