Well, yeah, duh, he actually *won* a war.
Rumsfeld is 0 for 2 now, trying for 3.
Ironically, Donald Rumsfeld was also a better SecDef than Donald Rumsfeld (he held the post under Ford, remember).
This supports my theory that the top Republican leadership was replaced by pod people sometime during the Clinton administration.
I doubt anyone here has a clue as to what the standards would be for measuring any SecDef’s performance. Bottom line is Rummy works for Bush and ‘compassionate’ progressives hate all things Bush with every fiber in their body. His job is to serve the CINC.

I consider myself a progressive, however I am not not sure about the “compassionate” part. (If it’s anything like a “compassionate conservative”, I dont want any part of it.) Anyway, I dont hate Rummy or Bush. I just hate their policies. It would be impossible to hate Rumsfield anyway, because, when he smiles, I can’t help thinking of a truly great republican president, Theodore Roosevelt.

Rumsfeld has set the competence and ethics threshhold SO LOW that EVEN DICK CHENEY would be an improvement?
Congratulations for finding a way to complliment Dick Cheney, even if it is damning him with faint praise. I would have bet the rent that no one could have done that, but I never thought about using Rummy as a baseline.

Repack, you probably couldn’t manage a video store, but the man you’re calling a moron, runs the Department of Defense, an organization that most likely has more employees than the population of your hometown, and operates in more countries than you’ve even heard of.

Is it possible that your hate comes a little too easily? Is there any prespective to it? I mean there’s no place to go when you reach hate and you reached your end with a relatively moderate Bush. So Pres Frist or Pres Delay or Pres Buchanan or Pres Duke would be no worse or just as hateful? Or do you have varying degrees of hate?

What about Bush has gained your mindless devotion Dugger? Is it his Iraq Blunder? His tax cuts? His environmental policies? The honor and integrity he has brought back to the White House? Enronism? His ability to step forward during a crisis? Honesty? His bold stance against cronyism? Election reform? His bold immigration policy? The way his admionistration has kept faith with the Indian nations? His ability to protect our national secrets? His bold ability to classify so much as national secrets? The bold way he hoards his national secrets? His record on Civil Rights? His ability to be a uniter not a divider? His ability to write slogans? Compassionate Conservatism? His economic policies? His love of cheap labor?
President DeLay would be even worse than Bush, frothing mouth corruptionism just isn’t appealing. I could at least respect Buchanan. President Duke, you’d like that would you?

No mindless devotion. Like his tax cuts. He’s too wishy washy on the environment (too accommodating to politicized ‘scientists’). His ‘corruption’ is an invention of political oppponents. The Iraq war may well be a mistake. His economy has been, largely, a success. Otherwise he is an uncharismatic, weak personal leader. A good middle ground Democrat who could have convinced the American people that his party was serious about fighting, vice understanding, terrorists woulda/shoulda beat him.
Thank God you picked wooden liberal Senators both times.
And I noticed you avoided the point about progressives excess in hating a mere moderate. If you hate a moderate like Bush, what about an extremist?

My view of corruption includes letting industry insiders (Ken Lay for instance) the power to appoint personnel to the regulatory bodies that oversee their industries. His economy has largely been a success for rich people. I don’t view Bush as a moderate, I view Bush as an extremist corporate elitist. Class warfare and all that.

- Then why are you wasting you time here? Could it be that rather the experience of an “honest thoughtful” exchange of ideas, it is more fun having the sense one is tormenting them?
It isn’t exactly the economy I’m worried about Dugger, it’s shifting the wealth to the wealthy. It’s removing enforcement form the SEC and the EPA. It’s having business regulate itself. It’s anti-labor. It’s the Bush philosophy that taking good jobs overseas is a good thing. It’s the lack of accountability in government contracts. It’s influence peddling.
As for the techno-bubble that stuff happens from time to time. The problem today seems to be the US is not trying to be on the leading edge of the next wave of technology, whatever it may be.
