Sports (Mostly Football) Rap

* Hockey season is still on? I’m pretty sure the Capitals stink (just checked, they’re 26-40), but even if they were the best in the league I don’t think I could stick with it.

* At some point this year, baseball may interest me. But of the three teams I like – Florida, Baltimore, and Washington – only one is at .500, and it’s the Orioles so that ain’t gonna last, but at least Anna Benson is still with the team

* We are a mere 5 months away from kickoff, however. The ‘Skins don’t have a cakewalk schedule this year (not that last year was easy), but I’m already pumped about going into hell Dallas as soon as week 2, and the bye is right when I like it. The Redskins don’t have a first round draft pick this year (I believe that was part of the Clinton Portis deal) so the roster is essentially already set. So I’ll forecast a record of… 12-4. Temper that with the knowledge that I have never been right. I forecasted 10-6 for the years straight and the actual outcome was something like 8-8, 7-9, 6-10.

The ‘Skins will need Coach Janky Spanky to make a playoff run again.

I don’t think both Philly and Dallas will stink, but I think Philly has more talent on paper than Dallas, and they don’t have a nutjob as their #1 wide receiver.

Also, how lame is it that Bret Favre won’t do the right thing and retire? He’s going to go down as one of the greats but it is clear from his play last year that he’s past his expiration date. Sticking around now is just holding the Packers back.

Even if the Jets do draft Matt Leinart, I’m guessing Patrick Ramsey will be the starter there for a while at least. Ramsey is a real NFL starter, and while I understand why the Skins cut him, he’s too underrated. That said, while I hope Mark Brunell plays as well as he did last year with no problems, I am eager to see if Jason Campbell can finally be that great quarterback for the Redskins that plays here for a long time (we haven’t had that consistency since maybe Joe Theismann).

Oliver, hate to break it to you, Anna filed for divorce a couple weeks ago.
Sad but true. Don’t expect to see her in Baltimore anytime soon.

i like the redskins chances too. the nfc east makes me a little nervous though. i don’t understand how you can say philly has more talent than dallas though, philly doesn’t have any talented players on their offense at all (besides mcnabb). owens may be a nutjob, but he’s an incredibly talented nutjob, just like michael irvin was. i also hate to break this to you, but ramsey sucks, he is not an nfl starter. he is probably the least mobile quarterback in the league and forces passes all the time.

I was around for the Theisman years and he was not consistant and certainlly not great. The Skins of yore relied on the HOGS and the quarterback was there not to make mistakes.

Yes is would be wonderful to have a young top rated quarterback for years to come.

Joey, she withdrew the petition once she realized that her husband was her only gravy train.

Haha, did she really? Why am I not surprised…

My beloved NY Giants got hit with a killer schedule.. Still think they can repeat as NFC East champs.
