  1. JWG says:

    Kansas City Star

But as Latino protests drew hundreds of thousands, other immigrant groups said they feared being ignored.

  2. Frank_D says:

You mean… Hundreds of thousands of Chinese were demonstrating for lenient immigration?

    Didn’t think so.

    Cool picture, though…

  3. SaveFarris says:

There’s a difference that’s obvious to anyone not wearing the partisan blinders. The only discernable flags are American (though some of those red splotches are hard to discern.)

Compare that to this and I hope you can see which might be considered more “threatening”.

  4. duros62 says:

Did anyone happen to hear Matt Drudge on the radio last night? What a tool. Basically said that the protest rally in Dallas “paralyzed the entire city” and that “they won this round.” Also said “they” should just do a work-stoppage and see if the countries infrastructure” grinds to a halt.
In the course of ten minutes listening to his show, the entire rally went from a peaceful demonstration of 500,000 to an invasion by a foreign nation intent on destroying our country. Over the weekend.

  5. Mike says:

    JWG,
That’s exactly how this issue will explode for Democrats, especially if their deliberate pandering to illegal immigrants angers and alienates blacks.

    SaveFarris,
I scoured the picture looking for signs that said “Honkies why don’t you take your asses back to Europe.” Funny, I couldn’t find any.

  6. Mike says:

Make sure you visit the link in Farris’s post.

At this point, I think the only appropriate response for Oliver and Co. would be to show us actual photos of similar “Vote Republican” posters.

If “Democrats really care” about illegals, and “Republicans are only pandering” (as Democrats have tiresomely droned for weeks now) then these protests should be overflowing with “Vote Republican” posters.

    So lets see some.

  7. Big Gay Al says:

Atrios makes the point often that many of the people protesting at these marches are themselves either legal immigrants or American citizens, but they may have extended families who are not legal. If the draconian measures supported by Malkin et al. were to be passed, it would have the effect of breaking up families.

    How does one justify that?

  8. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Nice link, Farris.

So the WizBang kids have decided that the rally in Dallas was an “illegal immigrant” rally? No citizens involved?

Right there’s the problem with the right wing angle on these protests. They’re trying to pretend that all those brown-skinned people are “illegals.”

Well, guess what, Sparky. Lots of those folks you want to label “illegals” are just as American as you are.

  9. frameone says:

“Compare that to this and I hope you can see which might be considered more threatening .”

Which group do you find more threatening Save, Asians or Latinos?

  10. Jadegold says:

The only discernable flags are American (though some of those red splotches are hard to discern.)

It’s always neat to see Repugs demonstrate their ignorance unsolicited.

Question: Ever wonder why Repugs are so worked up about Hispanic immigrants but you don’t hear a peep about Asian immigrants?

  11. Yeah, I’m going to post on this later, but the assumption by the cons automatically that all the thousands of people marching today are illegal immigrants strikes me as a GOP wet dream. I would bet that a not insignificant amount of them are Americans who voted for Bush.

  12. frameone says:

It’s the myth of the “good” immigrant that allows reactionaries to rewrite history, erasing the racist response that met every previous generation of immigrant, while attempting to rationalize the hate of today: “See, the Chinese are good legal, assimilating immigrants, if only Hispanics would follow their example we wouldn’t have a problem.” As if Chinese immigrants weren’t met with violent, racism when they first came to this country.

  13. Frank_D says:

Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know!

Conservatives are a – scared of Hispanics because they don’t speak English good, but Asian people… No, that’s not it.

Conservatives are a – scared of Hispanics because they’re not white, but Asian people… No, that’s not it.

Conservatives are a – scared of Hispanics because they’re not very tall, but Asian people… No, that’s not it.

Conservatives are just a – scared, huh, frameone?

Great history lesson, Paul… I remember the Chinese Exclusion Act like it was 124 years ago.

    Hehe

  14. SaveFarris says:

So the WizBang kids have decided that the rally in Dallas was an illegal immigrant rally? No citizens involved?

So if there was one legal there, then the Right’s entire argument is destroyed?!?

The gist of the rally was to protest against immigration reform, specifically against reform that would tighten the borders. Logic dictates that an overwhelming majority had either illegal friends/family or were illegal themselves.

    Or Democrat Registrars…

  15. Leroy Brown says:

Try the Chinese Exclusion Act. It was created when too many Chinese entered California to build the railroads. It placed a limit on the number of Chinese who could enter the country each year.

And knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe!

  16. Sundown says:

So if there was one legal there, then the Right s entire argument is destroyed?!?

I’m pretty sure there was more than one citizen at these rallies. I’d say a substantial portion are.

  17. Quaker in a Basement says:

The preview button is your friend, Bub.

  18. Frank_D says:

LB: Clear something up for me. The Chinese immigrants were protesting against the Chinese Excluxion Act?

  19. Leroy Brown says:

No, I was referring to frameone’s comments that the Chinese never faced violent exclusion. Just providing a little back-up is all.

  20. Frank_D says:

You mean after I mentioned it?

Quaker, you really have run out of things to say. I think you should call somebody a racist. This is the perfect thread for it.
    And, BTW, which “Preview Button”?

  21. Quaker in a Basement says:

I think you should call somebody a racist.

If someone writes something that betrays an unspoken bias, I might.

And, BTW, which Preview Button ?

The one that used to be on Oliver’s old setup that I imagined was still available.

  22. Frank_D says:

    Ah, yes…

I love the “unspoken” (as in, I read your mind) qualifier…
