Kids Today Just Don’t Get It

Back in the day there were movies animated by the top artists at Disney explaining the horrors of venereal disease. And it was good. (via boing boing)

I’m assuming this was made during the late 1960′s or 1970′s. There’s no mention of a Task Force H who was a new recruit in the 1980′s.
Ah, the good old days, when we weren’t afraid of reality based science and health education.
The copyright is 1972. It does show how we’ve been marching backwards these past few years. I remember another Disney science film that had the bacteria running around like spiders. When the victim died there was a casket with a candle glowing on top. All the kids got really serious.
Okay … I remember these red and green disease soldiers. I saw this in Gym class at an all girls Catholic high school in 1974 or 1975. It creeped me out then and I never forgot it. YUCK!
Unfortunately, kids do get it, which is why they need to see this cartoon…
Frank, do schools show this to kids if they also teach abstinence as a method of contraception?
Abstinence is not a form of contraception… If it were, it would the only one that made conception absolutely impossible. The contraction of STD’s is also impossible.
Frank –
Would you approve of showing this film to 7th graders in the context of a health education class (assuming, of course, that the school hasn’t gotten rid of every class outside of reading and math to meet the demands of No Child Left Behind)?
I guess so including some real sex education (which would include information on the very real possibility of STD’s, and what they can do, especially to women) with a parental permission slip…
