Antwaan Randle El is a Redskin.

Washington and Randle El’s agent, Fletcher Smith of CSMG Sports, finalized a seven-year contract worth $31 million that includes $11.5 million in bonuses. The deal is voidable after the sixth year.

The Redskins, whose offense sputtered on its way to scoring just 27 points in two playoffs games, on Saturday added via trade San Francisco Brandon Lloyd to what is now a rather deep wide receiver depth chart that also includes Pro Bowler Santana Moss and David Patten, both of whom Washington acquired last year.

    Whatever happened to “cap hell”?

Seems to be an overrated concept if the ‘Skins can do stuff like this.

    Hmm.

    That contract is INSANE.

    31MM with 11.5MM bonus?

That’s more than Hines Ward got last year and he’s a consistent 1000 yard receiver.

Hell, his contract approaches what the Steelers signed Ward AND Cedrick Wilson for together!

And that for a guy who might only wash out to be your Slot man…

He sure as hell wasn’t a true 2nd receiver here in Pittsburgh!

Anyway, 3rd round comp pick for next year for Pitt because of that. So, cool beans!

Hate to see the guy wind up on a team the Eagles have to play twice.

This is why the Redskins will never win a Super Bowl as long as big Dan is at the helm. They just don’t get it. Truly bizzare.

Who’s going to get the 2nd (maybe 3rd/slot..) tier reciever the ball? In the 5 or 6 times we faced the Steelers in the past 3-4 years (Patriots), I don’t recall him being a factor, never mind in the game plan.

The fact that a 2nd WR (at BEST, on a decent team) could command that kind of $$ in an age when 1.) you can get a GOOD WR in later rounds, and 2.) you win championships with defense, speaks to the idiocy of the power structure in Washington right now.

  5. Yes, defense wins championships, which is why Dan Snyder paid big bucks to keep Gregg Williams and I’m sure will be picking up some defensive free agents and draft picks. Getting a WR in the draft means you’ve got to teach him to be an NFL WR. We get a guy now to take just a little bit of the heat off of Santana Moss and Moss’ numbers go up. If Randle El gets some good catches too, even better. We will also have a healthy David Patten at the #3 spot.

Snyder didn’t get it his first few years. I think he does now. I’d rather him spend the $ and come up short than not try at all (like the owners of half the teams in the league).
