Bush’s Rug

3:03 pm EST March 7th, 2006 | News | 27 Comments

Normal people see a poor leader obsessed with a rug. Mary Katharine Ham (writing at Hugh Hewitt’s place) sees the same thing, but the rug screams leadership

Now, I think it’s interesting that Bush tells everyone about the rug. This is an interesting story. It offers some clues to his character, a little window onto what the President believes is important about himself. It shows his optimism is important to him– that’s the way he wants to be seen. By choosing furnishings for the Oval Office that reflect that optimism, he shows he wants to impart optimism to visitors and world leaders.

Liberty through rugs.

“The Rug Fixation?’ as she titles it, can serve two functions simultaneously.

1.) It can deflect from every bit of Bush Bad News (Polls, disarray etc).

2.) It can serve to prop up the ass cheeks of LEADERSHIP
sagging and dragging through the sand, leaving an unbroken trail
for any lame-duck hunter looking for easy game to shoot.

  2. Mike says:

Maybe the rug is telling Bush to “buck up” and “grow skin as thick as a rhinoceros.”

  3. Shorter Hugh Hewitt: Why don’t they realize the rug really ties the room together? They’re PEEING ON HIS FUCKING RUG!

  4. Man, I tried using the same language on my resume and the outplacement-counselor called “bull!”

So, I feel compelled to call: well, y’know.

  5. stick says:

    Slow news day, Oliver?

  6. Shorter Mike: Random odd story about Hillary Clinton, that surely debunks Republicans rhapsodizing about the leadership skills of the presidential rug. My work here is done!

  7. Big Gay Al says:

Yeah, the rug really ties the room togehter.

Who knows what the portrait of Lincoln told Nixon all those late nights.
I wish the rug would tell Bush something. It probably is a whole lot smarter than he is.

  9. factcheck says:

He stopped listening to the portrait of Lincoln because it kept saying “go to the theater”.

  10. factcheck says:

company=country, ah, hell it’s the same thing these days anyway.

If there ever was evidence of Bush worship, that blog post is it. Maybe it would resonate more if he would DO something positive instead of just THINK positive.

August, I was waiting for a Big Lebowski reference. This aggression will not stand! Hey, thats a quote from Bush Sr. This is like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon gone retarded.

naaa Frank, they would have screamed “its just a photo op! Why aren’t you back home coordinating the rescue….or out here in a bass boat with a shotgun like Sean Penn……?”

  18. Bill L. says:

Thank goodness we have a president who looks to his taste in interior decorating to convey his character rather than his actions.

Seriously, how bad is it when the best the Right can muster about Bush is a profile in upbeat throw rugs?

  19. frameone says:

you know, so everyone knows he’s still got a sunny attitude!

I think that pretty much says it all. If things get much worse in Iraq he’s going to paint the Oval Office canary yellow.

  21. Frank_D says:

Now we’re dissing the President’s rug? What’s next?

  22. duros62 says:

Now we re dissing the President s rug? What s next?

    Boxers or briefs.

C’mon, Frank. Even you have to admit this is kinda funny.
