Polling

12:03 pm EST March 3rd, 2006 | Politics | 28 Comments

Of all people, right-wing smear artist Byron York tries to get the cultists to realize that their president is unpopular.

His is an oft-heard complaint, most recently when CBS News released a poll showing Bush’s approval rating at 34 percent. It’s slanted, Republicans said, charging that it underrepresented GOP voters. It may well have been, just as this Gallup poll, which shows the president at 38 percent, may have, and the new Fox poll, which shows him at 39 percent, may have, and the new Los Angeles Times poll, which shows him at 38 percent, may have, and the RealClearPolitics average of polls, which shows him at 38.7 percent, may have. Perhaps it’s all skewed. Or maybe Bush’s ratings are down.

Byron York has obviously joined the sinister plot against The Leader.

    Damn!

When the perfectly coiffed BY is called a left-wing ass kisser by
Wingnut Nation, how soon will ALL the wharf rats begin casting
    themselves overboard?

If the dems cannot win in ’06 as well as ’08 we may have another
Iraq within our own borders. Total chaos and floundering, rudderless
ships are navigational and national hazards.

We have the Neocons (including the isolationists like Will and Buckley who
never liked the Iraq venture) to thank for much of this.

May History record the accuracy of all accounts, and conservatism
(even it’s good points) will suffer a long and cold winter of discontent.

  3. Dugger says:

And you have labored mightily to demonstrate that the polls show Bush’s popularity is low. Well I belieev ther is enough polling data to show that in a very general sense.

And iif we take that data down to the nearest Starbucks, that and $3.95 will get us a grande mocha latte imperialist lackee.

Dugger, Oh Help! Help! The polls are coming!

Dugger, Oh Help! Help! The polls are falling!

  5. Frank_D says:

I hope this doesn’t mean that My Man George won’t get re – elected in ’08.

Is there really a point, besides saying that, unlike Democrats, Republicans / Conservatives disagree.

  6. Jadegold says:

What Duggy is of course ignoring about the polling is that AWOL George claims to have this huge “mandate” and “political capital” with which he can implement his agenda.

    The polls show he doesn’t.

So when AWOL George gives some speech where he talks about the “American people” wanting this or not wanting that….it’s simply false.

The American people no longer trust AWOL George or favor his policies.

  7. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Different issue, Dugger.

You’re opining that poll results, even if accurate, are inconsequential.

The people hollering about the CBS poll are claiming that poll results are important, but that this one isn’t accurate.

  8. Dugger says:

    Quakie, OK

  9. Frank,

Yes…2006 midterms. Bush is an albatross around the GOP’s neck.

  10. SaveFarris says:

Keep playing the ethics card. It’s especially ironic w/ Harry ‘Abramoff’ Reid leading the charge. Might as well elevate William Jefferson to House Minority Leader while you’re at it.

  11. If they’re not all convicted by November.

  12. Sorry, my bad. That was Isabel Sanford.

    2006 midterms :: Republicans keep their majority…

    Next…

  14. Rounds77 says:

Farris, you need to pull your head out of that rancid GOP orafice. The arrogance of you and your ilk is stunning. You all believe that having public opinion of all your exalted leaders flushing down the toilet means nothing and that you’ll never have a losing day at the polls (read Frank’s earlier post) just proves you are out of touch with reality. If polls were so out of whack and indicitive of nothing, why take them in the first place?

  15. Wow, 1 Democrat vs these Republicans: former majority leader in the House, the majority leader in the Senate, the congressman who had a bribery menu, the speaker of the House, etc.

    Yeah, I’ll take that.

  16. Rounds77 says:

I credit your recent winnings on the fact that Republicans have gotten great at getting their base out to vote. I don’t think it’s because America is becoming more ideologically conservative and demands that we turn our country into one of your Christian utopias. That’s proven in the polls.

When the public becomes pissed off enough about what’s hapenning to get off its ass and vote, your wait to lose will be over.

  17. Frank_D says:

Rounds77: I’m still waiting for that loss promised by the Democrats since 2000.

Funny how those idioms have a way of coming true.

It’s been six months since Katrina. All the President has to do is fix New Orleans outside of the French Quarter, which is in danger of becoming an amusement park.

New York has been attacked and London’s bin attacked and Madrid and Baghdad (alot) and Delhi and Moscow.

  20. Wilbur says:

Thanks to the power of incumbency, aggressive gerrymandering and other perversions of the democratic process, the Republcians may well keep their majority in 2006, but that doesn’t change the fact that Bush will be an albatross and that he will have no political capital to spend during the last two years of his presidency. Many republican congresscretins will have to run away from him to retain their seats.

The tide is turning. Zeus is sharpening his thunderbolt.

    “Decay Curve”

    Classic.

  22. drpedro says:

All presidents experience the same gradual and consistent decline in their popular support. Presidents enter office with “inflated” support often called the Honeymoon effect. As their term begins and their election support wanes, the president gradually loses popular support despite the short term impact of a rally effect or long term impact of a good economy. So, despite the best efforts of a president, he/she will not sustain inflated support with which they begin their term. Only in the final 6-12 months of a president’s term does this support begin to return. This general pattern common across all presidencies is called the Decay Curve as seen in the illustration. It can also be seen in the graphs graphs of all modern presidents’ popularity

Check out reagan’s popularity before he was re-elected too. Note that Clenis didn’t really even get a “honeymoon” (but did get a hummer which might have made up for it…)
