Anyone know the current status of this bill? It passed in the House with 55%-45%, with only 50 Republicans voting for it and a wacked-out 17 Democrats voting against.
To amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for human embryonic stem cell research.
Cardin Calls on Sen. Frist to Allow Up-or-Down Vote on Stem Cell Bill
Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today called on Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) to allow for an up-or-down on vote on a critical stem cell research bill [S. 471] that would give doctors the resources they need to move this life-saving research forward. Rep. Cardin also called on Lt. Gov. Michael Steele to clarify his inconsistent position on embryonic stem cell research by stating how he would vote on this important pending legislation.
The Republicans love them some “up or down votes”, lets have an up or down vote on stem cell research.

To clarify, if elected, clearly Michael Steel would vote on this pending legislation. Every vote is important in Congress and Michael Steele would support that every bill coming to the floor should be voted on by members of congress. Michael Steele supports the existence of this bill, and acknowledges it. Furthermore if elected, Michael Steele can say that he will positively vote on this bill.
(2) Prior to the consideration of embryo donation and through consultation with the individuals seeking fertility treatment, it was determined that the embryos would never be implanted in a woman and would otherwise be discarded.
If you don’t see a problem with Para 2, then you don’t understand why the Republicans voted against it.
I’m glad, and you need to go check it out.
