Well, generally, after a thread falls off Oliver's front page, you've posted some new lunacy.

But if you happen to come back this way, you might give us a little evidence that Dr. King had reversed his thinking. You seem to be quite familiar with his work.

Take your time. I'll be over here making "dead silence from peedro" comments.

That explains it....and I feel better about MLK...

"I have a dream" was 1968. Martin had come around by then, and believed in TRUE equality

It is funny how quiet the leftists get when this subject comes up....there is simply no good, consistent argument for it, and even the leftards know it....

Man, you know you just ruined the whole "I have dream..." speech for me.

I really DID think that MLK believed in equality.

Would be interested in knowing WHEN your quote occurred too....

The brown preacher apparently didn't understand Dr. King very well.....Neither does Cracker

<b><i>I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character</i></b>

But the cracker seems to agree with the pigs in Animal Farm

<i><b>
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

</b></i>Ahh...beautiful sentiment Cracker, just beautiful

Its true, it's not realistic.

All the race-shills won't allow it. What in gods name would jesse do? The whole rainbow coalition would be out of work. Half the people speaking out at the funeral...unemployed.

Unfortunately, it doesn't make it right.

I, for one, go along with this (ahem) "brown preacher":

The Negro should be granted equality, they agree; but he should ask nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic."</blockquote>

"You idiots keep pulling out examples of things that in most cases have not been found to be illegal"

Last I checked affirmative action was still legal, Pedro. Why is it legal? Because the government, universities and other public insitutions have a compelling interest to promote divirsity in response to the consequences of historical and on-going racial bias and exclusion. Given that compelling interest race is one category among many that public institutions can and should take into consideration as they select candidates for employment or school. I think it's a little disingenous when conservatives bitch about treating people differently because of race as if this country hasn't been treating people differently because of race for over 200 years. You can count me in the camp that believes there may come a day when affirmative action is no longer necessary but the King funeral is yet another reminder that we are really only one generation away from the Civil Rights movement. The generation who fought against it are still with us. Now I wouldn't blame the child for the sins of the father but I think the Right's response to the King funeral is yet another indication that we are along way away from the day wen affirmative action will not be necessary.

"By the way, calling the Reverend Lowery a brown man may have been a bitter comment on his acting other than black (i.e., respectfully) at a funeral."

Frank - that statement alone, merely perpetuates the overall racist tone that's embued this discussion. The poster deigns to denigrate someone's behavior... as not "being black" ehough... that is "not respectful enough".

Spare us.

Again MJB avoids the whole question.

What do you mean NOW? You mean way back when, when the democrats were made up of a bunch of guys like Byrd wearing sheets and fighting the equal rights amendment?

Ever since I have been old enough to vote the republicans have criticized treating people differently based on the color of their skin. It is currently part of the democratic PLATFORM to treat people differently based on the color of their skin...

Well lefties, are you FOR treating people differently based on the color of their skin?

Pedro, conservatives conveniently NOW say they are against discrimination of any kind, when it helps their electoral prospects, but when it helped them to be racist they were overtly racist. It is very simplistic to say that all discrimination is the same. Grow up.

Thanks for changing the subject Paul.

How about this? Why is it ok to be racist with regard to affirmative action?

So far the lefties here continue to complain about some sort of "soooper seeecret code' that no one but the lefties understand.

We conservatives complain about the right out there, in-your-face racism that is openly supported by the lefties in the form of "affirmative action".

You want to address the issue frame....or are you going to screech "abu ghraib, abu ghraib" all day. You idiots keep pulling out examples of things that in most cases have not been found to be illegal (no indicments in secret prisons, indicted for forgetting a meeting in Plame, even the democrats are coming around on the FISA issue), and in the one case that was, the perpetrators are in prison! Jesus, talk about straw men.....

ahh yes, the liberal mantra& the ends justify the means& .

Liberal mantra? That fits the Bush White House to a T, from the invasion of Iraq and the near total destruction of its infrastructure, through Abu Gharib, secret prisons and the Plame leak on to the violation of the FISA statute and possibly the Constitution.

As much as this "conversation" has turned to race and the veiled racism of much conservative rhetoric, this whole dust up is yet another example of the Right trying to tell liberals and progressives when it is and isn't okay to critcize this president or his policies. Once again near hysterical conservatives are attempting to use intimidation and bully tactics to scare liberals into being quiet. The hypocrisy of all this loud talk about civility and decency is self-evident. You don't care about manners and dignity, otherwise you wouldn't have turned Terry Shiavo's death into a three ring circus. As usual, the right wing's only recourse is blustery posturing, exaggeration and a self-righteous assumption of victimhood. Says a Red State commentor:

"It is appalling and beyond my comprehension that a guest would abuse that event to attack another guest. And when the attack is directed against the President of the United States who is there as the representative of the American people, it represents an attack is against our civil institutions and an affront to all Americans."

An affront to all Americans? Go fuck yourself.

Once again near hysterical conservatives are attempting to use intimidation and bully tactics to scare liberals into being quiet. The hypocrisy of all this loud talk about civility and decency is self-evident. You don’t care about manners and dignity, otherwise you wouldn’t have turned Terry Shiavo’s death into a three ring circus. As usual, the right wing’s only recourse is blustery posturing, exaggeration and a self-righteous assumption of victimhood. Says a Red State commentor:

“It is appalling and beyond my comprehension that a guest would abuse that event to attack another guest. And when the attack is directed against the President of the United States who is there as the representative of the American people, it represents an attack is against our civil institutions and an affront to all Americans.”

An affront to all Americans? Go fuck yourself.
