I see Muir reprinted on a lot of conservative sites and I just don’t get it.
Maybe it’s the best dog they have in the cartoon race but political cartoons
need to have a gentler touch than a brickbat, to be effective as satire.
His stuff just ain’t that good.
It’s better than Gaggle but that’s like saying getting shot in the face is better than getting shot in the stomach.
Oliver, are you saying that Chris Muir needs a gentler touch, but your “Bush and everyone associated with him is an idiot” and “all conservatives are racist neanderthals” blog doesn’t?
Cleo, Muit hits you where it hurts. Painful, ain’t it?
That’s why Muir is syndicted. Conservatives hve no sense of humor.
In the strip where Damon is being introduced to a woman from the NAACP she asks, What happened to you that turned you into a Republican? In other words, What s wrong with you? Guess what Oliver? THAT S HOW YOU AND OTHER LIBERALS BEHAVE.
Yes, because conservatism and republicanism are objectively erroneous philosophies.
I have no problem when humor is pointed at liberals, some of the funniest moments on South Park have been when they make fun of liberalism’s sacred cows. But the vast majority of conservative attempts at humor fail at the basics of being funny.
There are real black conservatives, but the bulk of the ones who are in media positions are simply paid shills. I also find it funny that the two most prominent black conservatives – Condi Rice and Colin Powell – happen to share the black majority’s position on affirmative action (the liberal position).
As usual, because something pokes fun at liberals and Democrats, it automatically isn’t funny.
Dennis Miller was “never funny” once he started to support President Bush. Howard Stern was “not funny” while he supported President Bush. When he became a Kerry supporter, he suddenly became funny again. Mallard Fillmore? Not funny.
Of course ‘The Boondocks’ is HILARIOUS. ‘Doonesbury’ is HILARIOUS. ‘This Modern World’ is HILARIOUS. Right?
Are Muir’s strips always funny? No. Sometimes they stink. I love ‘Calvin & Hobbs’, but sometimes those strips stunk too.
But come on. Isn’t part of being comfortable with your views and your ideology shown in being able to poke fun and laugh at yourselves?
There’s a perfect point to be made here. In the strip where Damon is being introduced to a woman from the NAACP she asks, “What happened to you that turned you into a Republican?” In other words, “What’s wrong with you?” Guess what Oliver? THAT’S HOW YOU AND OTHER LIBERALS BEHAVE. There’s more posts on your blog where you’re implying that a black Republican or conservative is so because of some condition or because they’re too easily seduced by their ‘massas.’ That’s the subtle humor of that strip – that it’s not a cold or virus.
And August is being absurd when he says Chris Muir shouldn’t have a black character in his strip because he couldn’t know how a black person thinks. Okaaay. What about women? I guess all male cartoonists should cease to have female characters in their strips because of how could they possibly know what a woman thinks?
August suffers from the same racism he accuses Muir of. He sneers at the notion that there are actually Black conservatives. The fact that they represent a small minority within the black community is IRRELEVANT. Just because they’re a minority, doesn’t mean they do not exist. And I’m sure there are black conservatives out there who WERE pissed off at what happened at King’s funeral. But again, it comes back to the notion that they’re somehow inflicted with some kind of condition that causes this. And that’s what these comic strips do. They make fun of that because it’s a completely absurd notion. The fact that people don’t find it funny is because it probably hits too close to home.
Wilbur, you really don’t know what you’re talking about.
Since liberalism is relativistic and atomistic, i.e., each individual generates his own cosmos, there is, in the liberal worldview, no objective truth.
Sorry, Wilbur, in your world (not mine), all our philosophies are equal…
As usual, because something pokes fun at liberals and Democrats, it automatically isn t funny.
Actually, no. Being racist is automatically not funny.
Strange that you cannot tell the difference.
“Since liberalism is relativistic and atomistic, i.e., each individual generates his own cosmos, there is, in the liberal worldview, no objective truth.”
Sort of like the Kansas school system, where they teach Intelligent design, evolution, creationism, as well as “the controversy.”
Wow.
That’s the most straw I’ve ever seen in one place.

“Since liberalism is relativistic and atomistic, i.e., each individual generates his own cosmos, there is, in the liberal worldview, no objective truth.”
Naturally this scares the crap out of Frank because nothing is more fearful to him than having to think for himself.
Frank, that’s your definition of liberalism, not that of anyone with a brain.
Since Frank is dumb, there is no such thing as a smart conservative. Oh, no, that’s fallacious logic. Frank is just dumb, with no implications for conservatives in general.
Also, Chris Muir is astonishingly unfunny and crass in his use of strawman (and woman) characters, although that is no reflection on conservative cartoonists in general. (Mallard Fillmore is crass and unfunny for its own reasons.)
I m sure there are black conservatives out there who WERE pissed off at what happened at King s funeral.
Heck, I don’t think we’ve heard a peep from them this time around. It’ll be interesting to know who’s the first of that select group to take one for the GOP team. Here’s the thing: Dekalb County, GA is not Sweet Auburn. And even those who didn’t have far to travel — who now live in upscale homes and get GOP-driven tax cuts — stood up and applauded.
“Actually, no. Being racist is automatically not funny.”
???
How was the cartoon racist Silas? I don’t even think Oliver went there on this one.
“And I m sure there are black conservatives out there who WERE pissed off at what happened at King s funeral.”
What exactly did happen there? To hear conservatives tell it the very fabric of civil society was torn assunder by greedy, power-mad liberals who don’t believe in objective morality and decency. All I saw was that the president had to hear someone criticize him. Tough shit.
