Yes, by all means, let's get the saintly, completely unhyped Patriots back in the super bowl. But you know who might show up? The same Patriots who were made fools of by Denver a few weeks ago, who in turn were made fools of by the Steelers a week later.

Neither team was near the top of its game yesterday, but they both deserved to be there, and they both might have a chance for a rematch next year.

The Steelers won, desite a QB who posted a 22 QB Rating for the game. Horrible.

Great individual play by Ward saved them. He's a player.

Ho-Hum. It was a horribly played (sloppy) game, a horribly officiated game....frankly, I've seen better pre-season games. Holmgren's lack of time management was astounding, for a two-time Super Bowl coach. Cowher won, despite his "play not to lose" mentality which infested his play calling late in the game. (Particularly, right after the Seatle INT return.)

Let's get some real Super Bowl caliber teams, quarterbacks and coaches, back in Super Bowl next year.

Next Year's Super Bowl Matchup: New England vs. Dallas

The offensive pass interference call that cost the Seahawks a touchdown and the holding call that cost them first and goal inside the five each changed the game and gave the Steelers advantages that they did not earn.

It would be nice if the Super Bowl did not have such calls, but that's football, I guess. If I were a Seahawks fan, I would know I was robbed. But being neutral, I'd have to say that when your team totally dominates a half, they need to come away with more than 3 points.

And any time your defense allows a 76 yard run, you've got to look in the mirror, not at replays.

The unsportsmanlike call on Hasselbeck was completely wrong - incidental contact on a blocker while tackling the ball-carrier does not constitute an illegal block.

And there was one SEA fumble that was called incomplete, to take it the other way. Engram (?) caught the ball held in two hands and turned/took a step, then lost it.

I didn't have a problem with the others. Ben got the ball over the line in the air on my TiVo, Jackson stepped out of bounds, and extending your arm to arrest your momentum/push a defender away from the ball is flagrant pass interference. Doing it in the end zone with an official standing ten feet away is just begging for a flag.

What I'm pissed about is that both teams played so poorly. Seattle dink-and-dunked all day, and had terrible special teams and clock management. The Pittsburgh offense showed up on about three plays. Neother of these teams played well.

You're right that Roethlisberger was trying to sneak the ball over the line after he was down, but _on his way down_ part of the ball crossed the plane of the goal line before he (and the ball he was carrying) was pushed backward by the defender. JWG's right: touchdown.

And sorry, but if you push a defender away from the ball while a catchable pass is in the air, that's pass interference.

Seattle's supposed to be a blue city and you guys are arguing like republicans! You've got me agreeing with JWG! Arrgh!

it is a shame to see the refs have so many bad calls in one game (Rothlisberger didn't get the ball over the goal line until after he hit the turf). more unfortunately, this was the seahawks last best chance for a super bowl in the forseeable future. shaun alexander will probably play somewhere else next year. the seahawks will never again have such an easy schedule in such a bad division.

As much as I want to gripe and complain about those crappy zebra's - we would not have to worry about them if we did not drop those 3 to Stevens and those 3 to Alexander. Seattle hurt themselves and the refs seemed to halt every swing of momentum they started.
Regardless of which side I am for - I really hate to see refs affect a game to that magnitude...it hurts the NFL and it is not the first time that the impact has been greater then the play on the field.
- what is that line? "there is always next year"
Watch out because the Seahawks are good enough to take a crack at it for 3-5 more years.

That was one of the worst officiated championship games I've ever seen. There were at least 14 disputed points -- the B.S. "pass interference" call against the Seahawks and the questionable Rothlsburger touchdown - and the trick play was set up by a call I don't think I've ever seen: a team that just gave up possession called for an illegal CRACKBACK BLOCK on an attempted tackle.

The Seahawks outplayed the Steelers, but the Steelers were the more opportunistic team. That's the better way of putting it.

The ball crossed the line while Rothlisberger was in the air. Touchdown.

I just want to rephrase Joey Porter: "I mean I know they want the Steelers to win, but come on man!". Don't softpeddle the officiating. Tackling at the waist? Oh yeah thats a penalty. Kicks to the helmet, helmet to helmet hits, dog collar tackles... no calls. I realize that the team has to overcome all of this because it happens in sports, but that game was obsurd. The sports media were allowed to verbally masturbate about the Steelers for two weeks and then the refs obviously took their suggestions to heart. I really wish the sports media could stop slobbering over these events. All the pre-game and now post-game ass kissing totally ruins the events that they televise. I am happy for Jerome Bettis but this game just sucked.

They just weren't good enough to overcome the Steelers and those stupid calls. An early touchdown or two would have made all the difference....The Steelers probably would have scored in another play or two if that questionable touchdown had not been called.
What sort of fancy-pants league calls a semi-mutual push-off pass interference?
How can you get a penalty for a cut-block for 15 yards on a tackle?
The Steelers were just a tiny bit better today.

Seattle looked pretty good between the 30's, but they could never finish the job. Questionable calls on both sides. Both teams incredibly sloppy. Still, Pittburgh's slop beat Seattle's slop, which is the same as saying Pittsburgh beat Seattle. If Big Ben avoids that second stupid interception it could easily have ended up 28-3.

Stillers and Skins in '07!
