John Boehner, The Republican’s Man To Clean Up Washington
Tweet
The new top House Republican will certainly not be involved in the same sort of Republican culture of corruption that has ensnared so much of his party, right?
“One day last summer Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, chairman of the House Republican Conference, decided to play Santa Claus.
Perhaps he was bored. Debates were being conducted on such issues as funding for foreign operations and a proposal to amend the Constitution to outlaw desecration of the flag. In any event, Mr. Boehner took it upon himself to begin handing out money from tobacco lobbyists to certain of his colleagues on the House floor.
He was not deterred by the fact that the House was in session, and that he was supposed to be attending to the nation’s business. He was not constrained by any sense that passing money around the floor of the House of Representatives was a sacrilege. He had the checks and he dispensed them.
Passing out checks from lobbyists on the floor of the people’s House. What style!

The opine is that Bohnert was a ‘moderate’ (synonymous with tepid, these days) who was a compromise between “Damn the torpedoes” Blunt, and
“Man overboard!” Shadegg, whose saber had already begun to rattle the
cages of the money weasels.
Instapundit is hoping Bohnert will not apply the cosmetic touch, but will
prove to be a reformer. Given that the sermon will be coming from
a fellow recipient of the scarlet letter, it rings hollow from here.
Now it will be easier for him to hand out the republicans “paychecks”. I hear he’s reall good at doing it too.
