There’s been no compromise, if Dems were compromising with Bush I’d be upset but not livid. They’ve allowed themselves to be railroad. And trust me, I would not be taking talking points from Markos. This certainly isn’t a “recent” position for me, I was even angrier about this back in 2004, but I thought maybe the Dems have learned a lesson or two in the time inbetween – they haven’t. If anything they’re more clueless.

Oliver why is it then that the same memes seem to reverberate throughout the left wing blogosphere? I commented on this in a another thread too, but the Post seems to have your recent position nailed.

Maybe the talking points aren’t coming from the dems, but from Kos or whomever.

In any case, as the Post points out, if the dems followed your advice, you would likely lose more elections than the dems do already. Whether you like it or not, a democracy like this one runs on compromise, which almost by definition means that NEITHER side is all that happy with the outcome.

If only we got useful talking points. I’m not saying I don’t occasionally get stuff from the Dems, but its useless nine times out of 10. My problems with the Dems go far beyond Alito and the current Iraq posture, and to be perfectly honest a lot of those bloggers being referenced are just as bad if not worse than the beltway crowd.

That’s pretty much what I told the last couple Dem fundraisers who called me. I told them if Dems will go for a filibuster, whether or not it succeeds, I’ll donate. If they won’t, no point in my sending them any cash.

It’s not that the Democrats don’t stand for anything. It’s that they won’t oppose Republicans. They flip out when the Democrat who does oppose Republicans, Howard Dean, opens his mouth to oppose Republicans. Basically, they’re castrated wussies.

What the Dems need to do is create a media war room that creates the public inevitability of that Dems will oppose some Republican idiocy of the day. Then top Dem leaders need to stake out consistent positions with common talking points. Use the Social Security issue as the model. It was very effective.
