donations. The scandal is not about donations per se.

It is about money and perks that are TIED TO SPECIFIC ACTS.

Unless you want to parse words and bandy your brand of semantic

I want to hear the one about how Patty Murray, my state Senator and ranking Democrat on that least three major committees became the ninth most contributed to person by Abramoff and his clients (after they hired him, BTW).

I especially like the part about how Indian tribes from the Southeastern part of the country contributed tens of thousands of dollars to re-elect a Senator from a state that is physically the furthest away from their home states (in the continental US)?

Huh? I’d be interested in your source for this. According to the WaPo:

Maybe it will turn out that “directed by” was not the correct term in some/many/all cases.

Abramoff pushed his clients not to give money to Democrats. They did so against his wishes, not in favor of them. Abramoff did not direct anyone to give money to Democrats.

It’s a Republican scandal. Only. Pure and simple.
