Conservatives: We Just Hate The Gays

8:01 pm EST January 20th, 2006 | Uncategorized | 13 Comments

I think its funny/sad/typical that on Easter – you know, the day about Jesus returning from the dead while sacrificing his own life for the sin of mankind – right wingers are all in a tizzy about gay families coming to the White House egg roll

“It’s improper to use the egg roll for political purposes,” said Mark Tooley of the conservative Institute on Religion and Democracy. Tooley wrote a critical article this week in the Weekly Standard magazine about the planned event that has circulated widely on conservative Web sites.

Since the article appeared Tuesday, Chrisler said Family Pride has received “a flood of hate-filled, venomous messages telling us that our families aren’t welcome.”

“It’s not surprising that the right would be against it,” Chrisler said. “They are very clear about wanting to make our families invisible.”

Celebrate the son of God by practicing hate… it’s the rightie way!

I agree. Let’s stop having egg rolls at the White House. That’ll fix the whole problem.

I thought this had to be a joke at first. WTF?

Ollie has taken to expunging my posts.

That of course is his right.

The funny thing is, he is particularly sensitive to the ones that suggest that most of the stuff he posts here is shameless toady’ing up to the democratic party, in hopes of a job in some future (FAR in the future I imagine) democratic administration.

I guess I am getting a little too close to home eh Ollie? Not all that happy to see your true motivations in print….you just want the Obermeisters in the Party to know that you are a good soldier and “on message”

    Kinda pathetic Ollie, kinda pathetic…..

  6. Savefarris: Jim Crow was “legal” too, but then those commieliberalpinko activist judges said that such laws violated the constitution. The idea that blacks, women, and other minorities are human apparently offends the right’s cherished notions.

Pedro, if what you say is true, the above post shouldn’t be here. Hmmmm.

Why couldn’t these gay families simply have bought the tickets and gone to the Easter egg roll?
    What’s with the T- shirts?
It’s obvious they’re going there for political purposes. There’s no need to be disingenuous about it.
If they weren’t, you’d never know about it.

    “Liberals: We Just Hate Democracy.”

This is the same ludicrous argument that says that if the courts had just left well enough alone, the South would have gotten around to repealing Jim Crow and moving toward integration eventually. If a law is unconstitutional, the people or group of people being discriminated against shouldn’t have to wait until the electorate grows more enlightened: Their rights are being violated now.

The courts are there to do exactly what the judge in this case did: Judge the constitutionality of laws passed by legislatures. Again, it’s called checks and balances, a central principle behind the organization of our country that many of you conservatives want to forget as you lurch toward your facistic dreams of power.

  10. Mike says:

“To ensure visibility for the action, Family Pride will issue T-shirts to participants, bearing a “nonpolitical message” that would identify them as gay and lesbian families.”

That has to be one of the funniest sentences that I’ve read in the last few weeks. No one goes to D. C. to send a “nonpolitical message.”

The article states that 16,000 tickets were sold for the event last year. If Family Pride gets their anticipated four hundred families to the event, that will account for only about ten percent of the ticket sales.

They have every right to be there of course. But I’m sure that many are concerned that the event will turn into a media circus as a result of “friends” of Family Pride (like Planned Parenthood, Dikes on Bikes, NOW, ACT-UP, etc.) showing up and bringing their hateful anti-Bush, anti-Christian, anti-Republican sloganeering with them.

That would be a shame, since it would destroy what has traditionally been a fun event for kids.

  11. Dr. frameone says:

“They have every right to be there of course …” but they shouldn’t be allowed to be there because they’re gay.

Just come out and say it, Mike, don’t hide behind your fantasy scenarios of guilt by association. Just say it, you don’t think they should be there as gay parents.

  12. TomboyMS says:

“That would be a shame, since it would destroy what has traditionally been a fun event for kids.”

…and carrying on the conservative tradition of homophobia will ensure that the egg roll will continue to be a fun event for kids.

    Note to SaveFarris:
Liberals don’t hate democracy, they just understand it better than conservatives.
    Dictionary.com defines Democracy thusly:

    1. Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
    2. A political or social unit that has such a government.
    3. The common people, considered as the primary source of political power.
    4. Majority rule.
    5. The principles of social equality and respect for the individual within a community.

In my experience, conservatives have forgotten what democracy REALLY means (forgotten it or are ignoring it in the name of political expediency). Democracy is not the ability of the majority to do whatever it wants without respecting the rights of those in the minority. Majority rule is not absolute. The fourth definition is all conservatives seem to remember about democracy, while the last definition is forgotten entirely. “Respect for the individual” is an integral part of democracy. You can not have one without the other.
Remember: Respecting the rights of the minority is in conservatives best interests, considering they may be IN the minority someday.
