The Republican War On Veterans

No doubt the words of one of those leftist seditionists

Military people past and present have good reason to wonder if the current administration truly values their service beyond its immediate effect on its battlefield of choice. The casting of suspicion and doubt about the actions of veterans who have run against President Bush or opposed his policies has been a constant theme of his career. This pattern of denigrating the service of those with whom they disagree risks cheapening the public’s appreciation of what it means to serve, and in the long term may hurt the Republicans themselves.

It’s horrible that the pinkocommieliberal New York Times would print such evil words… what’s that? This was written by James Webb, former secretary of the Navy? Well surely he served under noted socialist Bill Clinton? What? He served under Ronald Reagan?

Nevermind.

>> Company, Left

The midterm elections this fall will be the first in which a sizable number of veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq run for Congress. At least fourteen have declared so far. But in an era when military and national-security issues have long been the province of the Republican Party indeed, are thought to have strengthened the GOP’s grip on the White House and Congress in the past two elections the bigger surprise is under whose banner these veterans are choosing to run. Like Walz, nearly every one of them is a Democrat.

  1. Frank, you spend all day on this site making shit up. Surely your Condi Rice fan fiction must be suffering.

  2. Zappa says:

I really don’t get where Frank is coming from here – seemed like Mr. Webb has taken issue with the practice of sliming Veterans for Political gain. Why is OW disgraceful for pointing this out? Seriously? is Webb a hero of yours and OW using his quotes to make a point about Swift Boat Liars offensive?

I find it interesting that the old school cons keep coming out against GWB.

  3. Frank_D says:

Talking about “cherry picking”. 95% of the article is about Cybercast questioning Murtha’s medals
    You are disgraceful.
You will never work in a legitimate journalistic operation, with this kind of sleaze on your resume.
    Shame on you.

  4. Frank_D says:

You what’s really insulting, Oliver? That you still think that that juvenile shit bothers me…

I think I’m beginng to outgrow this kindergarten…

  5. Frank_D says:

Yes, cleo, you and your buggy friends are wearing me down. I guess I just can’t hack it any more. You guys aren’t fun anymore.

    I see dumb people…

  6. Semanticleo says:

Is that what you mean by graduate school?

  7. Frank_D says:

Let me guess, cleo, you asshole, you’re insinuating that I’m not in graduate school, right?
    Or WTF are you saying?
    See, that’s what I mean.
You know that poem “If” “If you can keep your head, when every one around you is losing theirs and blaming it on you…”
Well, that is getting harder and harder to do with you crazies…
Is there no lunacy you won’t regurgitate. no idiocy you won’t parrot?

  8. JWG says:

Webb has always opposed the Iraq War and the way in which Bush has run his administration. Webb was also disgusted by what Kerry did after the Vietnam War.

Ultimately, Webb wants Republicans to be in charge…just not Bush Republicans.

  9. Semanticleo says:

    You said:”I think I m beginng to outgrow this kindergarten& ”

I said; “Is that what you mean by graduate school?”

Good Lord. If anything is certain about you, it’s that you are
not a liar. But, try to develop a sense of humor to attend
    your higher education.

  10. Frank_D says:

There is only one subject that Oliver knows less about than the military, and that’s religion.

  11. rapier says:

What has been most striking about this whoel debacle isn’t that Bush is attacking veterans. They simply feel that the best way in which to discredit an agrument is through base ad hominem attacks. The most striking thing about all of this is that the American public doesn’t see through this base tactic. If you disagree with someone’s position you don’t attack the person, you counter the position. The Bush administration seems to have forgotten than and has instead decided that vulgar appeals to emotion – without the tempering appeals to reason and ethics, is sufficient to get what they want. However, what they seem to have overlooked is that emotion is a fickle bitch and it can be easily turned. We’ve seem that in the past and we’re seeing that now with Bush.

I think that if any other Republican had come to power in 2000 they would have been able to assure a republican hegemony. To the dismay of the party faithful (at least those with long term vision), Bush has squandered his position to be a stable foundation for the continued dominance of the party. Which would go a long way towards explaining why the more strategically inclined Republicans are up in arms.

Oh, by the way, Frank? I’m sure you like acting like a troll. You get everyone all riled up and then you get the attention you seem to need so badly. However, there is a difference between good attention and bad attention. All the attention you are getting now is of the ‘bad’ variety. It makes it much more difficult to actually uncover any real argument or position you might be trying to make. Instead of yelling, maybe you want to try *discussing* the issues with people. You might be surprised at the amount of respect you can get, even from people who disagree with you, if you actually discuss the issues and not your views on their parentage. Argument, after all, is about persuasion, not screaming fits.

It is sharply ironic that rapier discusses ad hominem attacks here.

check most of these threads rapier and you will find 8th grade name calling in every other lefty post.

I happen to agree with frank. Dealing with this echo chamber is frustrating. Constant repetition of unfounded argument, name calling, and the obvious talking points leaves for a somewhat useless discussion.

  13. Well it would be alleviated if the two of you quit the “constant repetition of unfounded argument, name calling, and the obvious talking points”

  14. Wilbur says:

Yes, once again we see that the right-wing concept of civility is “everyone should be nice to me regardless of how shitty I am to them.

  15. drpedro says:

For crying out loud Ollie, the “I know you are but what am I” argument?

You better work on that witty repartee of yours, Soros ain’t going to tolerate that weak sh*t for long buddy…

  16. Frank_D says:

rapier: Don’t lecture me. I t was a big deal at 2:00 am. I’m over it now. You should get over it too.
    Incidentally, not only don’t I like being a troll, I don’t even think I am a troll.
One of the frustrating things with you lefties, is that you continuously throw out the same BS, but then demand “proof” and “links” from conservatives.
As far as your “argument” goes, there is nothing for the people to see. If the left trots out a Murtha, and says “Here’s a hero, a veteran, a hawk, and disagrees with Bush and agrees with us,” what can you say?
    “So what?”
No, you say, maybe he’s not a hero, after all, maybe he’s not really a hawk, after all.
Think about it for a minute: Murtha — who is introduced as a veteran and a hawk — comes out and says it’s time to pull out and come home. How do you answer that? “No, it isn’t”?

  17. Frank_D says:

What if it were possible that the veterans running as Democrats were intent on changing the Democratic Party?
    Now, that would be interesting…
