Ok.

Everyone. Listen up.

You should henceforth leave neocornholer JayC a little room on
the death penalty issue. He doesn't give us any reasons for this
atypical conservative view, but that's ok.

I do see how the three "real" conservatives voted - against it.

And of course, your support is appreciated :) .

I don't. And many others don't as well. So leave out the blanket accusations.

Here is the good news.....MD assisted suicide has been going on for years. When someone is dying and in pain, MD's prescribe pain medicine. Now if they happen to get SO much pain medicine that they stop breathing....well, it happens

The ethics are really not complicated. The MD is trying to prevent pain, a secondary effect may be that the person stops breathing. This is of course a gross simplification, but suffice it to say, a good physician won't allow a terminal patient to suffer.

I hate to say it, but I happen to, for the most part agree with OW and the lefties on this one...

Jesus, Dugger. Talk about simple. That's the stupidest, most simple minded attempt to explain the issues at stake here that I've ever read.

You gotta love neocornholes. They're all for freedom, as long as it's on
their terms. They want to be free to stick their noses in every uterus,
and inject their false morality into life and death decisions of every kind.

Yet, this culture of life unabashedly supports the death penalty.

What they really want, is the power to decide who lives and who dies.

Imperious Rex!!!!

News flash: the bible is not a legal document.

Uh...Hello McFly, who's talking about legalities here? Try to keep up ok?

You wrote:

Our bodies are not our own . WTF?

Maybe I missed something, but the 'WTF' at the end expresses an incredulous attitude about what she wrote. Obviously, you don't understand it. Learn about it. In addition, I don't see her arguing that point as a reason for making assisted suicide illegal.

Believe whatever you want. If you believe something's a sin, don't do it, but don't tell everyone else to live according to your own beliefs. The bible is not our law and not everyone shares the same religious beliefs. Nobody is forcing you to do anything against your religion, so don't force everyone else to live according to your religion. All of us want exactly the same thing you want, to be allowed to live our own life according to our own beliefs and not have someone else's religious and moral views forced on us. Just keep your religion to your self and live your own life according to it, but keep it out of our life.

It's not shock, I don't give a flying eff what the New, Old, Middle Aged whatever testament has to say on this. All I care about is this document. News flash: the bible is not a legal document. The other crap is between yourself and your God, stay out of my and my fellow citizen's concerns. If someone is of sound mind and wants to die, butt out.

Ah. God expects us to suffer. Truly, Oliver, it would be a shame if you appeared ignorant to folks like that. Jay, you ll be chastizing women for appearing promiscuous in the eyes of the Taliban next, right?

Nice diversion, but I didn't address her comments about suffering. I was addressing Oliver's ignorant 'shock' regarding her comment about our bodies not being our own. If he understood the New Testament at all, he'd have more of an understanding of what she meant.

I am not Catholic, therefore I have no knowledge of Catholic doctrine as it relates to redemptive suffering. But that had nothing to do with what I was saying. But it's very typical of you to engage in such diversionary nonsense.

Are they not going to be satisfied until they ve dragged everyone s private business into court? Jesus, get off your high horses. Nobody appointed you lord and master.

Sombeody needs to tell the CokeSpoon Cowboy this. Without getting extraordinarily rendered or CointelPro'ed...

Oliver, would it surprise you to know that suicide is considered a sin by all the major religions of the world, Islam included?
Do you care?
Oliver, would it surprise you to know that suicide is against the law, as is attempted suicide?
Do you care?
Do you really believe that people should be free to do whatever they want?

Jeebus H. Koresh on a crutch - who gives a rat's ass about what a bunch of religiously insane idiots think?

Islam also says that women who are raped should be murdered by their immediate families, because they brought shame on the family for getting raped. Do you care about that one, too, Frank? Should it be held in the same high esteem as the rest of your religious insanity?

Catholics (especially the PopeNazi) have been hiding known pederasts, moving them around from parish to parish so they can molest even more children, lied to the authorities about it, and asked the cops to ignore known criminal activity because it was a member of the clergy breaking the law. It is also one of the edicts that this heretic has proclaimed since he became Pope. How about that? Should that be a religious position that should be supported, too?

Evangelists have been praying for others to be murdered, blamed everything under the sun on those they don't approve of morally, and kicked people out of their congregations because they didn't believe in the Divine Right of the Chimperor to run our lives. And they've done it (supposedly) in the name of their deities. Should we support that 'moralistic' viewpoint, too?

Keep your pagan occult superstitions to yourself, traitor. If you feel so strongly about living in a theocracy, you could always go and apply for citizenship in one of the existing ones.

Gee, Bryan, you figured it out.. Would that the "wiser" commenters were so wise as you.

I don t care about what the major religions think, and frankly, find it offensive that you push the idea that since major religions are against it, it has to be that way for all. [Please note that I sincerely doubt that you are offended, so you've wasted your time with that notion.]
jasonwaskey: I will explain this only once, so try to get it the first time.
I wasn't trying to convince you that you should perceive of assisted suicide as a "sin." If you, for example, possess no concept of sin, such a pursuit would be meaningless.
My point was that assisted suicide met with nearly universal disapproval. It is pretty much a human value that we attempt to preserve life in all its forms, as best we can. And, contrary to what some people might think, assisting people out of this life might not be relieving their suffering, and is certainly not the highest of human endeavors.

OW, that 747 noise whooshing by your ear was the point. The problem is not suicide per se - but assisted suicide, the morality of helping some one kill themselves. I think I'm for assisted suicide but , as is true of abortion, only the woefully ignorant consider it simple.

I'm a bartender and my old buddy Joe is depressed tonight, had a bad argument with his wife. Four drinks later he tells me he wants to end it all and I, in OWs silly world, say "no problem Joe, here's a 45 and a bucket. Go in the back room and please don't make a mess." I would not be guilty of no wrong for doing that right, OW? So simple, indeed.

I think Frank was saying "Even Islam" because persons claim that suicide bombers will achieve martyrdom by doing same. Actually, Islam is as against suicide as the rest. Not surprising as the OT is shared by them, judaism and Christianity.
My Dad passed last month. It seemed cruel to let anyone suffer like he did, finally losing his dignity to the pain in the final couple of weeks. I wouldn't like to answer if I'd have assisted his attempt at suicide if he'd made one. When it ended for him, his prescribed pain medication was what finished him off, but having to choose between excruciating pain and overdose is no real choice.
Even though some of his brothers made comments about it, my dad was resolute that there should be "no priest and no church" involved when he died. We had a Humanist minister in to conduct the cremation service. He often referred to priests and nuns in a negative way, having grown up in Ireland when their power was at it's height. Sometimes the paedophilia aspect was also included.

Our bodies are not our own . WTF?

Get a little educated on theology the Bible and you might understand. You know, the whole "body is a temple" thing. Otherwise, you'll continue to come off as you just did - ignorant.

Get a little educated on theology the Bible and you might understand. You know, the whole body is a temple thing. Otherwise, you ll continue to come off as you just did - ignorant.

From the link:

Redemptive Suffering is a Catholic doctrine I'm quite fond of, and I would hope that more people would study it and embrace it as a concept. If the Son of God could not escape suffering and pain, how can we expect to?

Ah. God expects us to suffer. Truly, Oliver, it would be a shame if you appeared ignorant to folks like that. Jay, you'll be chastizing women for appearing promiscuous in the eyes of the Taliban next, right?
