The ethics are really not complicated. The MD is trying to prevent pain, a secondary effect may be that the person stops breathing. This is of course a gross simplification, but suffice it to say, a good physician won’t allow a terminal patient to suffer.

Nice diversion, but I didn’t address her comments about suffering. I was addressing Oliver’s ignorant ‘shock’ regarding her comment about our bodies not being our own. If he understood the New Testament at all, he’d have more of an understanding of what she meant.

I am not Catholic, therefore I have no knowledge of Catholic doctrine as it relates to redemptive suffering. But that had nothing to do with what I was saying. But it’s very typical of you to engage in such diversionary nonsense.

I wasn’t trying to convince you that you should perceive of assisted suicide as a “sin.” If you, for example, possess no concept of sin, such a pursuit would be meaningless.
My point was that assisted suicide met with nearly universal disapproval. It is pretty much a human value that we attempt to preserve life in all its forms, as best we can. And, contrary to what some people might think, assisting people out of this life might not be relieving their suffering, and is certainly not the highest of human endeavors.
