Feel Safe?

For 74 minutes America knew Osama Bin Laden had issued another threat to America. The President did not.

UPDATE: Rob Port seeks to mangle reality and also raise the “liberal bias” bugaboo. First off, it isn’t liberal bias to report that the President had no clue Bin Laden was issuing a new tape. Secondly, this wasn’t like the President was giving some damn speech of import — he was doing the used car salesman shtick, selling the Edsel of an economy that can’t seem to do much for anyone beyond the CEO set. Somehow I think the president’s job is supposed to be about acting as commander in chief instead of acting the fool.

I think Bush has gone most of his grown life with lowered expectations, but aren’t the trolls sad that they coddle thier king like a baby? He is the president! I am not asking for him to crap a golden egg, but for God sake could you do more? At least some narcissist are effectual in thier personal life because they are so fixated on themselves, but Bush can’t even live to that standard! He is a false conservative that pays lip service to everything he sells. Even people like Grover Norquist, Wyryche,Barr and others are selling him out on this wiretap issue. While these man are fairly dispicable, they are at least true conservatives and they OBJECT to this moron because he is NOT a conservative but rather the most fraudulent president in my memory. I almost opine for Reagen. He was America’s favorite teddy bear and actor president, but at least he bought into a quarter of the shit he was peddling unlike Bush.

boy, talk about cowardice Ollie! Geez, did you wet yourself when you read drudge? I know you leftist are big on micromanagement but, puhlease…..

Why should the leader of the free world know or care everytime a terrorist hiding in a cave whispering into a tape recorder (two months earlier) issues a threat?

actionable intelligence..? yea he should know about that. More hot air and threats, just like the stuff we have received for the last 3-4 years….who cares?

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 Semanticleo

I doubt that the news would have tempered Bush’s ‘ebullient’ mood
because as he said a couple years ago “I don’t think too much about
    OBL”.

But it does show a pattern, in that his handlers don’t seem to think
it consequential that the President be kept informed in a timely manner.

Since they repeatedly leave him out of the loop, could be he isn’t
    much of a factor.

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 Dr. frameone

Bush’s aides have learned not to spook Bush while he’s on camera following the script. They have nightmares about the blank, deer-in-the-headlights look on the Dear Leader’s face after they told him that American was under attack. They’d hate for him to wet himself on stage.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 bryan

OBL specifically targets the US again. I hope your anti-terror people are good, because they will need to be.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 elrod

I don’t think the issue is that OBL was about to do something and Bush needed to act. The issue is that the President was not briefed on what, by any measure, is a significant national security event…or at least threat. It isn’t like OBL comes out with these tapes every week.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 Dr. frameone

“Letting them know that we care is what fuels them, you dolt.”

Ian, could you please explain this statement. I mean really. Bush can’t open his mouth without saying “Fear the terrorists.” If we aren’t supposed to let them know that we care, well, we blew that awhile ago.

O’Dub please explain why it matters… letting them know that we care is what fuels them, you dolt. I don’t see Democrats jumping everytime OBL says how high.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 drpedro

As usually the lefties avoid the issue. The issue is, why should GB know the minute that a pathetic missive from OBL hits al jazeera?

You guys are the ones who are always saying if we alter our lives one iota the terrorists win.

Now you idiots think the POTUS should be interrupted for this? Even drudge didn’t put the blinking red lights on did he?

Try not to be so obvious in your hypocrisy and playing both sides of the fence

Don’t let bush-hatred take over your frontal lobes girls….

Oh and paul, maybe for accuracy sake we should call you “TA frameone” don’t you think? Or did you get a “doctorate” from one of the advertisers in the back of the LA Weekly, the space right next to the gay singles column?

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 White Whale

Still avoiding the issue that your king is not held to any standard. He doesn’t need to know anything or do anything and the trolls are posturing about “Well you see its not neccesary for our president to ______(fill in the blank). Seriously, does Bush have to be knowledgable or appraised(apprised?) of anything? Why should Bush know about Osama when he speaks? Oh I don’t know… because he is the root cause of our crusade against terrorism? Its almost as if Republicans don’t want to catch him. We will still have to fight terrorist and it won’t make us any less emboldened. Do not marginalized the bombers and the mastermind of thousands of dead Americans. For all this personal responsiblity bullshit you guys push, you would think your king would be at least ok at being responsible.

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Dr. frameone

I jumped ahead in line at the Hollywood Upstairs Medical School, your alma mater.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Frank_D

    This isn’t “7 Days in May” Oliver…
What did you think OBL was going to do, launch a nuclear attack from Tora Bora?

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 drpedro

Like I said whale, you wouldn’t understand. It is tough for cubicle workers to understand the mind of an executive…..

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 White Whale

LMFAO! “Us responsible people” What are you John Wayne? So your boss is mearly a face that hires good people? Ok, lets assume that the boss is just a figure head, how do account for Bush’s hires? I mean I can name a few and one that rhymes with Drowny. Do you guys cherish intelligence of any sort? I mean guys like George Will don’t have much sway anymore because your party doesn’t embrace actual acountability and responsibility let alone intelligence. That is why your party is soaking in corruption and can only claim political wins because I can’t see any substanative policy. “People open the door for him”… You mean like having a famous dad or let me guess.. having money… Wow. Again you keep shirking “personal” responsibility.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Dr. frameone

Dr. , having a reaction to each time they threaten us.”

Um, what? Could you explain then how the ups and downs of the terror threat level before the 04 election fit your grand strategy of “ignore them and they will go away”? You guys are too much. When Bush doesn’t react to a terrorist threat it’s because reacting to a terrorist message is what “fuels” terrorism> When Bush does react to a terrorist threat he’s a strong resolute leader.

I guess that’s what Dr. Pedro meant when he said we don’t recognize good leadership when we see it: with Bush the very definition changes day-to-day.

And Pedro, do you even have a job?

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 White Whale

Proffessional Clinton penis lover and “Dr.” do not mean you are employed. I hope when you say executive you mean your a porno/smut “executive” because anything else would be getting fu**ed and not a good thing.

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 drpedro

Few leftists here have ever had any job or true resposibility requiring leadership, so it is understandable that you are ignorant regarding delegation.

sure, paul has to get his movie review into his free newspaper on time, and OW has to show up to his cubicle everyday, but neither has great responsibiity.

Those of us who are responsible for others understand that you hire good people, and let them sweat the small stuff. The lefties here still think that having a lot of keys on a key chain is the sign of success, when in fact the successful man doesn’t have a key, he has people to open the door for him..

    nuff said

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Wilbur

Gawd, get over youself, Pedro. Someone who spends as much time as you do trolling oppo blogs looks really stupid lecturing others on cubicality and slackerhood.

Bush ain’t the CEO of an autoparts chain, or the senior partner in a Duluth law firm, he’s the President of the United States.

His job is not to bubble himself off with minions, his job is to be a leader, and to appear engaged with what the American people are experiencing even if he doesn’t personally give a scroo.

Now I would agree that this particular instance is no big deal in itself, but it’s part of a pattern: my pet goat; heckuva job Brownie.

Bush is cut off, detached, disengaged, and more people are coming to realize it. He might make an okay CEO of an autoparts chain (with enough of grandad’s money padding his mediocre business talents), but he’s a miserable failure as a leader of this country.

    Dr Wilbur

PS: right on Dr Frameone: reacting to a terrorist threat by interrupting a speech fuels terrorism, but launching hysterical half-cocked invasions of other countries apparently doesn’t. Kee-ripes!

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 ian

I think it’s time to take off that tin foil hat.

I think it s time to take off that tin foil hat.

Because bush and his turdblossom brain would never, ever, manipulate the terrorist issue for political gain, right?

    riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 Zappa

    Hey Pedro -
Go fuck yourself. I have no idea nor care what you do for money - you have no idea what I do.
All I know about you is that you show up on a progressive blog on a daily basis adding your comments supporting an adminstration that could give two shits about you.
Your statements about frameones education found next to the gay ads and you comments about what people do for a living shed light that you are an elitest bigot.
I truly hope that we are doing what we can to keep ourselves safe from the next terror attack. Fucktards like you defending incompetent fools will not help.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Frank_D

You don’t need to be afraid of the terrorists, Oliver. Just ask “Dr” Frameone what to do. Maybe you two can hide behind a copy of the Constitution, or ask the terrorists for a warrant, before they blow you to Kingdom Come.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 nawoods

Here’s a quote from the linked article:

“Anyone holding a BlackBerry would have learned just a minute before that event that Al Jazeerah was airing the tape of bin Laden’s threat. The email alert from ABC News arrived at 10:15 am EST. Bush started speaking at 10:16 am.”

I fail to see how this can bring ya’ll to the level of rightous indignation you seem to have adopted. It was an audio tape, had just been aired on arab tv, and had not been analyzed or authenticated by the Intell folks.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 drpedro

Paul as you probably know, the terror threat doesn’t go up everytime OBL opens his mouth, it goes up because of actionable intel.

The rest of you guys stop being so sensitive. All this ad hominem attack and invective!

I know you hate bush, and realize deep down that it is ridiculous that he should be aware of these things immediately.

Go back to your cubicles and read Kos or the other echo chambers where we grownups won’t bother you in your mindless liberal worlds, where all the terrorists can be reasoned with, and republicans just live in the closets and come out at night in your nightmares….

    LOL….what a bunch of maroons….

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 White Whale

Oh and Oliver, why is one of my comments still in moderation? I didn’t even spell out the f-word. What gives?

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 White Whale

Its seems useless now. All the repugs are not even making arguments. They don’t believe thier king should be a responsible and effective human being. Pure friggin adoration. Wow.

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 midderpidge

We all know why they don’t bother to alert Bush, he is incapalbe of doing anything. Look at 9-11, when leadership counted Bush was hiding in an elementary school for over an hour then flying away from the crisis.

They don’t bother to keep him abreast of threats anymore, if they did, the real danger might come in, him trying to address the issue before his speech writers swing into action. “My, they had to evacuate the White House! My wife too? I should have done that years ago, eehyuck!” or “Osama bin Laden? Osama….bin……Osama, yes, now that the Iraqi elections have been certified, we will see that President O’Laden will lead Iraq down the pathway of democracy. Which we know, after 9-11, is so important. He’s who…? No questions.

DrDoper has escaped the life of cubicles, offices, fresh air and human company by sitting at home, in his parents’ basement, in front of his computer, constantly checking his email for a new male enhancement offer that might actually work. Only Rush Limbaugh can drown out the voice of his mother who says he should go out, meet some girls, get a job, stop looking at those dirty pictures, get some clothes on, make some friends, go back to school, clean his room, do some chores, open some windows. “But Mama, 9-11 changed everything!!!” Mama, tears running down her face: “If only that were true…” AH the horror! The horror! The horror!

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 midderpidge

Frank D-for-Diaper mocks the constitution. Classic.

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 Frank_D

Hold on! If Osama bin Laden wants to release an audio tape, he should be allowed to release an audiotape! We have free speech in this country, don’t we? What have come to in this country if a fine old Arabic gentleman can’t release his own audiotape?
The Constitution, the Constitution, I tell you! W-a-a-a-a-!

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 Frank_D

No, actually, Midderpidge, you and your ilk mock the Constitution when you treat it like the rules of a debating club.

Pidge, I just finished taking out a brain tumor with my OR staff of 15 people and am going home to my lovely wife and daughter who are comfortably esconced in my 1 acre estate.

  36. Gravatar Icon 36 midderpidge

Its nice to hear that your parent’s basement has plenty of room for your wife and daughter and for you to play your operation game. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Oh Damn! Mom, can I turn the dryer off? Too late! Cavity Sam is now going to sue me for malpractice. I won’t be able to pay the rent this month.
