The Paid Right

It’s kind of funny that so much of the right-wing of the blogosphere are the same old political hands that populate the right, only in a new medium. For much of the left (including myself), blogging was the first brush we ever had with professional politics.

  1. Glenn Reynolds writes columns for a Republican lobbyist. The Powerline guys are funded by right-wing thinktanks, as are Michelle Malkin and a host of others.

Hear! Hear! Let’s have more ‘win-at-all-costs’ tactics because the
bottom-line is the final arbiter of ethics and morality. Don’t blame
young whippersnappers who heed the call to action. They are merely
following the example we gladly present.

Plausible Denialists everywhere must remain united in their efforts
    to save the American Family!

Use hypocrisy and obfuscation with the integrity those qualities
demand. Deny any accusation. Uphold the rightness of doing
    wrong.

Do not hide your warts and blemishes. Decorate them with
colored lights and festoon your warped perceptions with
    party favors.

We alone can save the american dream, even if in so doing,
    we must destroy it.

Really? Like Glenn Reynolds? Charles Johnson? John Cole? Eugene Volokh? Tom Maguire? Kevin Aylward? Dan Drezner?

Which “so much” are you talking about? And where the hell did you dig up this Minnesota blog? The guy averages less than 500 visits a day.

The key word is “writes.” Glenn didn’t get his gig with TCS until after his blog took off. Prior to that he was an unknown law Professor at UT. That’s like saying Kevin Drum blogs for a left wing publication as though he’s been doing it all along.

The fact is, the majority of conservative and right of center blogs are authored by regular people. Their blogs have afforded them other opportunities. Do you think you were hired by Brock because you’re a Redskins fan? No. You were hired in part as a result of the attention your blog brought to you.

  5. And they had those connections before they started blogging, right? Oh, right. They didn’t.

  6. Brandon says:

Because it not like Atrios and Kos don’t have political connections.

    Oh wait…

  7. SaveFarris says:

Hearing Oliver complain about someone being funded by a politically-motivated think tank is just TOO funny!

  8. Jay C says:

    Nonsense. Kos didn’t. That’s accurate.

However, it is well known that Atrios was a contributor and one of the major players involved with Mediawhoresonline.com which had direct access to guys like James Carville and Paul Begala. In fact, they contributed to it as well.

“Suppose we assume that OW is right. My questions would be: 1) So what? and 2) Why does it matter?”

I don’t get to say this very often, so I’ll say it now: I agree with Quaker 100%.

Even though blogs are becoming increasingly influential, I live in one of the bluest parts of Philly (and except for parts of the far Northeast, the whole damn city is bluer than hell) and I guarantee you if i stopped fifty people on the street and asked them if they read Atrios, i’d probably get blank stares from 49 of them, and Atrios lives in Philly too.

Really, Oliver this is a stretch. This guy gets a lousy 500 hits a day, I’ve never heard of him.

And your conspiracy theories of Malkin and Powerline really need to be backed up.

  11. JD says:

Just when I think that O-Dub’s hyperbole has reached its zenith, he shifts gears and chooses to focus on the inherent hypocrisy of his own position. Criticizing others for having ties to a party or interest group when he is bought and paid for by David “I tell the truth, except for all of those times when I was lying” Brock and Media Matters.

To paraphrase Doc Holliday … your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

  12. Quaker in a Basement says:

Suppose we assume that OW is right. My questions would be: 1) So what? and 2) Why does it matter?

If anything, it would be an indication that the “old hands” in the Democratic party are still 10 years behind.

    News to me.

  14. (: Tom :) says:

Oops – not defunct should be now defunct.

This has been a paid political message from the Rhino Party (also defunct for many years) who secretly control everything!

Plus, that mediawhoresonline.com was such a major political player and had such awesome connections going right to the heart of the Democratic Party. For years! Decades, even! So there – there is an equivalence between an online site (not defunct) that gets to talk to Begala and Carville, and InstaCracker and Malangalangadingdong parroting Repugnicant talking points! Boy howdy, your fantastic use of logic and overwhelming debating style have convinced me.

    Excellent tom….

didn’t take long to resort to racist, ad hominem attack….

    I love “progressives….”

Dr P: I’ve come to the conclusion that all these guys attend the same Middle School: Norman Thomas Memorial.
