Inside The Con Mind

My colleague at Media Matters, Terry Krepel, does an excellent takedown of one of the right’s attempt to rewrite reality in the Terri Schiavo case.
WorldNetDaily’s press for the WND Books-published “Terri’s Story” insists that the book is “definitive” and “comprehensive.” The book jacket claims that the book “provides the background and depth missing in most of the national news coverage” of the Terri Schiavo case.
It’s not, and it doesn’t.

You have to give some credit to the Plausible Denialists.
They never tire of repeating the Mantra Du Jour as befits
their self-serving talking points. Perhaps it is the lack of
imagination that propels their dogma. That, is the dilemma
for the oppostition. Should we act with nothing but the desire
to win at all costs? Shall we copy their behavior despite what we
become in the process? The right-wing seems not to be
burdened with the counterpoint and the questions that arise
from curious mammals. The end does justify the means
for these folk. They shamelessly, and with apparent moral
conviction, regurgitate the bile of their past mistakes and urge
the public to consume it like it were Manna. They are like
the snake-oil merchants in the old west. Put a little cocaine or
brandy in any medium you choose, and wait for the tonic
to pacify your customer so you can empty his pockets
Amen, Leo. The really funny thing is that one of the most common characterizations these koolaid guzzlers make of the Bush administration’s detractors is that we have a deep-seated, irrational, and personal hatred of Dubya. Project much?
There is a local right-wing talk radio outlet here in Chicago that advertises itself with this slogan: “Liberals Hate It.” The politics of fear and hatred are what governments have always used to keep the faithful in line. The reactionaries rely on fear and hatred more openly, though. The Bushies have turned fear and hatred into vaudeville, but their sycophantic followers have long since given themselves over to the madness.
The Bushies’ Orwellian pronouncements are delusional, mouth-foaming nonsense to those of us with functioning critical thinking skills. To the believers– those who’ve spent their lifetimes learning to warp their minds to the ever-twisting ‘logic’ of racism, xenophobia, religious dogma, and economic self-flagellation– the Bushies can do no wrong, and it is the rest of us who are mired in illogic and angry madness.
Remember the crowds of Israelites who angrily called for the torture and execution of their Messiah? They’re back, and they vote Republican.
I wonder if they included this in the book: List of Schiavo Donors Will Be Sold by Direct-Marketing Firm — The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.
Hey, Ryland, I don’t suppose it occurred to you that the “thousands of strangers moved by her plight” will most likely be anti – abortion and conservative.
