Yes, a new day has dawned in America when a gay man or woman can buy a Jaguar.
Now, if the day ever come that I can buy a Jaguar, that’ll be fantastic!
That was pretty much my response, too. Oooh, the freedom to be marketed to, finally the Stonewall riots start to pay off.
No. It was bigotry, nothing more.
Well it’s more than “freedom to be marketed to”, which I think the whole world could do well without.
In case you’ve noticed, advertising revenue fuels, well, just about everything in America. It’s unfortunate but it’s the reality.
Gay magazines, just like all magazines, rely heavily on advertising revenue to survive. Large, 12-month contract, back-cover advertisers in these books are more like “sponsors” than anything else. They pay salaries. They pay rent.
Ford’s yanking their ads might really be a serious problem; especially so if other large corporate advertisers followed suit. Glad they decided to jump back in.
It’s nice that Ford, whose commitment to diversity has been an example, was treated like lump-lump.
So much for assuming positive intent, just treat people who’ve supported you like liars until you can crow they’ve caved; assume the AFA is being truthful, they always are, right?
That’ll get companies like Ford to do more than the minimum for you in the future; because this wouldn’t have been an issue if Ford hadn’t been your friend in the past.
The important issue is not whether gays can see Lexus ads, the important issue is that a major corporation refrained from caving to right-wing bullying.
People are beginning to realize that the AFA, the entire fundy right-wing, and the political party they’ve put in power are on the wane.
Not only does the emperor have no clothes, he’s also got a tiny dick.
I think most of you have already repudiated the moron twins above who seem to think this about gays having the “freedom” to be marketed to.
For those that choose to take of the partisan blinders, this is about a corporation caving into the demands of a religious group because of moral viewpoints. Perhaps our government is content to be strong-armed by religious hacks, but at least for now, Ford has decided not to follow that lead.
So, Ford has abandoned religious values. Yay! Think about that when you’re driving in a 2006 Fairlane, and it explodes into flames because of the unethical non – religious standards of “quality” they’re using.
Whee! Isn’t being a pagan fun?
You cannot possibly be serious, can you?
John S.: That’s almost a response, and you didn’t call me a name. Quite an improvement.
I was following your logic:
No morals, no ethics.
“Coming soon. The new Ford Pious. A car that only a Christian can drive.”
You’re so full of shit. You’ve been calling me an asshole for days now, all the while not responding to my responses. But pretend that somehow you are above the fray.
Anyway, who even knows what you are babbling about now. Ford is a corporation. They exist to make money. Their mission isn’t to make a political statement or exude a certain type of moral perspective. Marketing to homosexuals doesn’t mean they lack morals or ethics – at least business ethics, which is really the only applicable kind here. Caving in to the demands of religious groups does show a lack of those ethics.
I suppose you style yourself a “Christian”. Well I got news for you pal. If the good Samaritan had stopped to help a homosexual on the road, people like you would be screaming at him to let the faggot die. That is not the way of Jesus or of a true follower of Christ. So spare me the lecture on morals and ethics, because contrary to what you think those words mean, your opinion here expresses neither.
And if you don’t like Ford selling cars to homosexuals, don’t drive a Ford. As a consumer, that is your only valid recourse.
I don’t care if Ford sells cars to the blind. My point was that, in my mind, homosexuals are not special class of people who should go running to Ford, hollering “put ads in our publications.” If this AFA, whoever the hell they are, wants to boycott Ford, so what?
But to frame it in “Christian right vs homosexuals” conflict is downright stupid.
If “Their mission isn t to make a political statement or exude a certain type of moral perspective,” then what is this whole thread about?
What do you think the “moron twins”, as you so eloquently referred to us, were talking about?
BTW, “the moron twins” was clever. I chuckled myself.
You’re making a point that doesn’t exist. Homosexuals did not beat down Ford’s door to solicit advertising. Ford had already decided to place ads in homosexual publications and then had their doors beat down by Christian conservatives enraged that Ford would try to market to a special interest group – which MOST publications are whether they be black, dog lovers, technophiles, etc.
Yes, I’m sure you have no clue who Dobson is…or Robertson or Falwell…Anyway, they can boycott whoever the hell they want. It was a mistake for Ford to cave in to their demands. Period.
LOL. What is stupid is to pretend that this isn’t exactly what this little brouhaha is all about.
I have to ask, are you feigning ignorance, or are you just ignorant on this topic? Because you seem to not have the first clue what this entire thing is all about.
I’m tired of you and your bullshit,
Just for the record Dobson, Robertson and Falwell have nothing to with the AFA.
So, if it gives you a woody, I’m feigning ignorance.
Wah, wah, wah.
Riiight. Don Wildmon doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with his fellow Christian conservatives. They’re all cut from the same cloth and you know it.
Or maybe you really aren’t feigning that ignorance…
I think I have to side with Frank_D on this one to a certain degree. Ford really doesn’t care who its drivers sleep with, so long as they continue to buy and drive. To have any other agenda in business is utter stupidity. Just because Ford has a news add in a Gay and Lesbian publication certainly won’t deter Bobby Ray Skaggs from buying a brand new F-150 Stepside when he finally hits it big with his scratch off lottery tickets.
If Ford didn’t care, then they shouldn’t have pulled the ads to begin under pressure from the AFA. In regards to making money being the only agenda, that was MY point – not Frank’s.
Sorry John_S
I was looking at this post. sorry about that. But I think all and all the three of us are somewhat on the same page.
