Don Evans, former commerce secretary, is now going to go work for Vlad Putin. You have to wonder, when Evans was commerce secretary, was he just doing Mother Russia’s dirty work?

    It says he was offered the job. Nowhere does it say he accepted.

    Wiseass-itude notwithstanding, you can’t prejudge the guy on the basis of his being offered a job. If you’re walking through a bad part of town and a the corner crack dealer offers you a rock, should we have you arrested for possession?

    Rosneft is preparing for an initial public offering sometime in 2006. Kommersant reported that Evans was being courted to signal the company’s commitment to good management practices.

    You don’t suppose that that could be why they offered him the job? Nah.
