And you still haven't answered: when you say "limo," do you mean one of those great big stretch jobs, or are you including ordinary town cars?

I don't see anything "passive aggressive" about that question, do you?

Once again, you re just being a wiseass, which I suppose is some sort of payback for your failure to save face in the whole racism accusation kerfluffle.

Do you really want to re-open that, Frank? Actually, there's no "face saving" that I need to do. However, I'll be happy to spank you some more if you ask nicely.

If you believe that riding in a limo is a rare event, or an event reserved only for the rich, then good for you.

Nice try, Frankie boy. I never said any such thing, though you may infer whatever you wish.

On the other hand. it is you who seems to believe that riding in limos is so thoroughly common (for liberals) that you stop short of calling mr. curmudgeon a liar for stating that he never rode in one. Why? Because he's a filthy librul.

The only one peddling ridculous notions here is you, despite your attempts to prop up lovely strawmen to share in your chorus of "If I Only Had a Brain".

Don t you think I realize that the insults begin when the substance of the argument ends?

Frank, the "substance of the argument" usually ends when you start, and it sometimes begins after you're finished. OW quotes George Clooney, who happens to be a wealthy Hollywood regular, but who also happens to be absolutely on the mark. So what do you do? Bring up some pointless b.s. about some goofballs in Manhattan in the 1970s-- written by a right-wing hack-- that has nothing to do with what Clooney said. Now you're accusing others of avoiding 'substance.'

Did you ever stop to think that all that bullshit you were watching on TV back then was just a bunch of hype? Did it ever occur to you that the corporate-owned press might be blowing things out of proportion? I don't suppose it ever occurred to you that a lot of the negative press anti-war activists (and other progressives) were getting might have partly the result of government misinformation campaigns. Maybe you just latched on to the b.s. because it meshed with your narrow worldview. It's nice to see that you've matured since then.

By the way, Jane Fonda was smeared by Nixon, and you wingers have been stroking off on that myth ever since. That's a fact. Who knows how much of the other shit you were lapping up was just public misinformation? What with COINTELPRO lurking around back then, we may never know.

So don't remind me how old you are, or how young I am. If you didn't have a fucking clue back then, and you haven't figured it out since, what's your point? As far as I'm concerned, it was the bulk of your generation that followed assholes like Kennedy, LBJ, and Nixon into Vietnam, and you had (and still have) the nerve to denigrate all the decent people who tried like hell to get us out of that ungodly mess. So don't try and moralize to us 'liberals,' because we're the ones who'll have to clean up after your mess.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

Quaker: Save your passive aggressive bullshit for your left wing friends (no pun intended). Here's your answer, and everybody's answer:
I spent a short time in my life in the middle class. Except for that brief period of time, I have lived at or below the poverty level.
Even so, I have ridden in limos a few time in my life. Usually for a wedding or a funeral. Therefore, I believe that very few people have never found themselves in a limo in their lifetime.
Once again, you're just being a wiseass, which I suppose is some sort of payback for your failure to save face in the whole "racism accusation" kerfluffle.
Now, was there something else about limos you wanted to know -- like perhaps how much they weigh, or how much mileage they get?

A few comments back, I said this:

The point [of my initial comment] is that the origin of the name limousine liberal came from the notion that these uptown (NYC) liberals rode around in limos.
Whether or not anybody else rides around in limos is irrelevant.

So your question is irrelevant.

But, Frank, I wasn't referring to that comment. If you go back to where I asked the question, you'll see that I conveniently cut-and-pasted the comment to which the question refers:

I m inclined to believe that everyone has ridden in a limo at least once in their lives.

To which I replied: town car or one of those nasty "stretch" jobs?

Folks do that so you'll be able to better understand the question. And, hopefully, post a relevant, coherent response. If you're able.

Corrigan, you're the "pit bull" trying to defend your incorrect statement that rich people throwing parties for radicals was "another winger myth." The fact is, I didn't have to read Tom Wolfe's book for two reasons: 1) What these people were doing was in all the papers and newsmagazines at the time; and 2) Tom Wolfe's book was more than a best seller. It was discussed on TV, and written about all over the place.
You are obviously too young to know that, so, somehow, I become the "pit bull" because I'm not going to let you simply post something untrue, and untrue about me.
So, with that, I will say this: I'm not going to turn around and deny something that I just said is true, because I've been insulted by a liberal. And if I have to operate at a disadvantage, because I always have to "prove" everything I say, while you lefties spout all kinds of nonsense without even referring to a human source, let alone a verifiable link, then that's what I'll do.
You know why?
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Because you liberals think all of your opinions are "facts". You think that every thing that pops into your head comes from the Mountaintop, and woebetide anyone who disagrees with you.
Don't you think I realize that the insults begin when the substance of the argument ends?
Don't you realize that almost every single one of my insults comes after yours?
Don't you think I notice that people like you, Corrigan, jump into the thread, like kids playing "pile on."? "Oooh, looka there, somebody's after Frank... I'm going in!" Why do you suppose that is, Corrigan? Do you think that I think that it's my fault?
Do you think I buy a bullshit cop-out like "you re an easy mark... That s what makes you so irresistable"? C'mon. I didn't just fall off a truck full of pumpkins, junior.
I'm not sure exactly why people like you, John S., Jadegold, frameone, Concordian and, now, a new arrival to the Slime Dwellers' Club, Quaker, do what you do, but rest assured, you are responsible. It is your choice, and whatever jollies you get from it you're not going to pin on me.
So, play on, liberal automaton.

Sorry I am late I was a little short on the entry fee -

Frank - please refer to my "dudes" post to see why your posts attract attention; it is a game - people are trying to get your goat, they do it for sport.

Anyhoo - I like clooney's movies - I find them to be thrilling and smart. I hope he produces more; I don't care that he is rich though as it is not him but the system.

I post a comment, it will, for lack of a better term, attract more attention than most other posts.

That's just human nature, Frank. Zappa's right. You're an easy mark. I can understand you spouting some off-the-wall crap; that's expected of a winger. However, you then get defensive and stand by your lunacy like a pit bull guarding a piece of rat shit in the middle of a dog biscuit factory. That's what makes you so irresistable.

By all means, though, if you want to keep up with references to Tom Wolfe 'essays' or some other such intellectual manure, well, who am I to stop the fun?

Based on your history, there s no limit to your imagination.

Thank you. I think.

However limitless my imagination may be, I still can't fathom what you're talking about. There have been several comments posted regarding "limos." I asked: town car or stretch?

None of your succeeding comments seem to address that question. Is that inadvertant, or do you wish to talk about something else?

I leave that to you, Quaker. Based on your history, there's no limit to your imagination.

Oh, and Quaker, I'm sorry if I thought just about everybody has ridden in a limo at least once in their lives. Thank you for not accusing me of racism -- this time.

From one of the reviews of Tom Wolfe's book:
"Radical Chic" is the story of a party thrown by Leonard Bernstein to raise money for the Black Panthers; specifically, for their legal defenses. Wolfe lets their own words and actions at this typical party be the objects by which these elite, Manhattanite, "limousine liberals" completely humiliate themselves

Corrigan, it wasn't a novel, you moron, it was an essay. It really happened! You know, like reality TV. As in non - fiction. Get it?

John S. and Quaker: If you believe that riding in a limo is a rare event, or an event reserved only for the rich, then good for you.

The point is that the origin of the name "limousine liberal" came from the notion that these "uptown" (NYC) liberals rode around in limos.

Whether or not anybody else rides around in limos is irrelevant. If it is important for you to make a statement that you have never been in a limo, and I have somehow damaged your psyche by saying that I doubt it, then I humbly apologize. If anyone ever asks me if you ever rode in a limo, I shall say, "Hell, no!", and beat them about the head and shoulders.

Wow, Frank, that's priceless. You present a link to a Tom Wolfe novel as "evidence," and then you get smug about it? Why not toss in some Flat Earthers and Holocaust deniers, while you're at it? It's no wonder you keep coming around here standing up tall for right-wing global empire. With 'facts' like these...
