After winning the sloppiest game ever versus the Cardinals, the Skins must beat the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles for any hope of a playoff spot.

Pray.

They can’t even get a good draft pick correctly.

And my Colts just keep on going about their business.

I would dispute your assertion, but that probably does not surprise you. I would question whether or not he “choked” in the AFC Championships. Sure, he has played some less than stellar games, but we were legitimate underdogs, ON THE ROAD, each time, losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champions. I hate losing, but there was no shame in losing to those Patriots teams. None. Great ballclubs. Great organization.

  7. JD: So are the Colts gonna choke in the AFC Championship again? I respect Peyton but he’s looking like another Dan Marino — in a bad way, up to this point.

I was thinking about this a little more, and two thoughts kept popping into my head. First, being compared to Dan Marino is something that 99.9% of all quarterbacks in the NFL would be proud of. Second, your comment left the impression that it was Peyton’s fault that they lost to the Patriots. We were a decided underdog, playing on the road, in the snow at a team that won 3 out of 4 Super Bowls. That hardly qualifies as a choke. And more importantly, we lost because our defense was, on a good day, average. Peyton gets a lot of accolades being the media darling and all, but the reality is that football is a TEAM game. He is one of 22 starters, plus, a punter, kicker, and special teams. Just like head coaches, quarterbacks seem to get too much credit when things go well, and too much blame when things are not going well.

  9. Well, I come from the perspective that Dan Marino is among the century’s most overrated quarterbacks – great stats but not somebody that led his team to the promised land. On the flip side, while I may seriously doubt Tom Brady’s QB chops (as far as if he’s an elite QB) — there’s no question that he’s left a Hall of Fame mark on the NFL.

No, I don’t think it was Manning’s choke that took the Colts out of the Superbowl, but the way they played – and the way they are playing – is the kind of play that usually leads to a Superbowl appearance.

The Redskins are clearly on the down side of the franchise’s history but you’ve got to remember that I saw them win the Superbowl with Mark Rypien and Doug Williams at QB, both great guys but not the kind of guys who will go in the hall of fame. To me, a Peyton Manning should be counting his Lombardi’s already.

This year will be different. They beat Jacksonville and thier isn’t a team that can handle them. Not San Diego and all thier weapons. Last night made me a believer, even though Peyton is a lousy Tennessee grad:(. Many times Manning would lose because he couldn’t score enough points. Lets face it the Skins aren’t bad, but thier quaterback is old and tired. Plus thier is only one good reciever on that team.

If football was a one man game, like golf, then I would agree with you. However, alas it is not.

    JD,

I usually agree with you about political stuff around here, but you’re seriously overstating the case about how NE was so superior to the Colts.

Depending on what book you looked at, the Colts were getting 2 to 3 points last year against NE. They say that being the home team usually counts for about three points, so essentially had they played on a neutral field, it would’ve been a pick ‘em, to Indy being a slight favorite.

Plus, NE’s secondary was so banged up that they had a WR getting time at corner, AND those rules that got put in before the 2004 season about the refs calling interference on any contact after five yards were put in largely because of the complaining Indy did after losing to the Patriots in the playoffs the year before.

When you factor in all that, only putting up 3 points, especially after throwing 49 TD passes, is coming up small, even when you acknowledge that Indy had about five drops that day.

Look, Indy is clearly head and shoulders above everyone else this year. Win the Super Bowl and everyone will shut up. Lose, and it’s gonna get ten times worse for Peyton.

Oh, and Dan Marino is kind of bad comparison, because Marino never had a running back as good as Edge.

You can count on our Iggles to accommodate your wish (prayer doesn’t do diddly-squat.) Dunno about beating the Giants and Cowboys, but my glass is at least half full any day one of those two teams loses.

  14. JD says:

PSU94 – I agree that we had an outstanding offense. But the simple fact is that we, at best, had a horrific defense. Our offense had to score, and had to score big, for us to be in the game. And in order to do so, we had to take chances that we simply do not have to take this year.

“Well, I come from the perspective that Dan Marino is among the century s most overrated quarterbacks – great stats but not somebody that led his team to the promised land.”

Absolutely. All he had was his arm ..

What quarterback has won a Super Bowl without other stars around him, or without a great defense ?
