O’Malley Picks Brown as Running Mate, Source Says

Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley has settled on Prince George’s County Del. Anthony G. Brown as his running mate in next year’s race for governor and is likely to formally announce the selection Monday, said a source familiar with the mayor’s plans.

O’Malley (D) said yesterday that he is close to making an offer to a lieutenant governor candidate, whom he did not name. But during an interview, O’Malley offered effusive praise for Brown, 44, a Harvard-educated lawyer and Army Reservist who recently returned from duty in Iraq.

Gee I guess since he’s black (like Steele), he must be a lackey too, right Oliver? I mean I am just quoting what you said.

  2. Steele isn’t a lackey because he’s black, he’s a lackey because he’s a black Republican who favors conservative policies that hurt all people, especially blacks.

  3. ian says:

Yeah, sure … from your previous posts it sounds like you were upset that Steele ran with Ehrlich because he would get the black vote .. it sounds like O’Malley is doing the same exact thing. This is some nobody, at least Steele was in a high position in the MDGOP.

  4. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Some nobody?

a Harvard-educated lawyer and Army Reservist who recently returned from duty in Iraq.

Heck, by current standards, he’s Presidential timber.

  5. ian says:

Quaker I didn’t mean that what he’s done makes him a nobody .. I live in Maryland, I keep up with Maryland politics and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this guy.

Oliver, Steele was a big part in the MDGOP and knew what he was doing there, that is why he was selected. This guy is just here to sweep up the black vote.

  6. Jadegold says:

In reality, Ian, you don’t follow MD politics very well. Anthony Brown’s been a rising star for some time now.

OTOH, Steele’s always been a hack and has been better known as Mike Tyson’s brother-in-law. And why did the GOP pay Steele a salary to run for Lt Gov?

  7. Oh God, Ian, you just keep embarrasing yourself. It’s becoming sad. Steele’s a joke because he’s just there to get the black vote… and he won’t.

  8. Dugger says:

Thats a good resume. Wonder how an old Army guy gets along with all those Maryland libs?

    Dugger

  9. ian says:

Quaker — please, I dare you to name one of your delegates. They only meet for three months, while working for the MDGOP is a full time job.

I never said I follow MD Politics like a hawk .. but if I have never [generally] heard about this guy, that says something.

  10. Quaker in a Basement says:

I live in Maryland, I keep up with Maryland politics and I don t think I ve ever heard of this guy.

Oh. Well, your reasoning is indisputable.

    A nobody, obviously.

  11. Quaker in a Basement says:

Is this the Anthony G. Brown you’ve never heard of?

Maybe you’re not following Maryland politics as closely as you think.

  12. Jadegold says:

It says nothing, Ian. You’ve demonstrated you know little about anything.

  13. ian says:

Jadegold I don’t take after you.

  14. Quaker in a Basement says:

Quaker please, I dare you to name one of your delegates.

Too easy. Mine lives three doors down from me.

  15. ian says:

Where is it that you live? Most of our delegates — on the right or on the left — are elitests.

  16. Quaker in a Basement says:

Where is it that you live?

Colorado. Two-bedroom house in an older part of town. Next to all the other “elitests.”

  17. Jadegold says:

    elitests???

    Jeebus.

Ian, do you have any idea what the salary for a MD state delegate is?

  18. Quaker in a Basement says:

Most of our delegates on the right or on the left are elitests.

I see. I’m sure they’re very different from the “regular folks” who work for the Md-GOP.

  19. trevorwells says:

The bottom line here is that the Democrats were too timid to break the barrier of race in a state in which nearly half of voters for democrats statewide are black. It really is absurd that Republicans broke this barrier first. Delegate Brown is a token. What he does should he win the office can remove the stigma.
