The Media Sheep Follow

The War on Christmas has apparently begat the War on Dean

UPDATE: And now Michael Reagan has called for Howard Dean to be hung. Tell me again how the modern conservatives are remotely different from the Tim McVeighs?

  1. Wait…wait..wait…get this:

    - Go to http://billoreilly.com/
    - Hover above ‘About Bill’
    - Look at the options listed

    ‘Recommended Holiday Gifts’ ?

  2. AK,

Did you visit BO’s Website? Come on…outrage this, outrage that! This shit is funny! You can’t write better parody and/or irony than this!

    Talk about pure art!

  3. John S. says:

     Recommended Holiday Gifts

    Bwahahaha!

Looks like Bill is double agent in the ‘War on Christmas’.

Fox also had his O’Reilly Factor tree decorations listed as ‘Holiday ornaments’ until someone pointed out the brazen hypocrisy, and then of course they changed it to ‘Christmas ornaments’.

No doubt that will be the case here as well.

  4. AnalogKid says:

    Excellent link, Oliver! Thanks!

Doesn’t petain to the issue at hand.

Does not even pertain to what the headline speaks of.

Never mentions what Dean actually said.

Refuses to give anyone elses opinion on the matter or even quote anyone other than Mehlman, thereby manufacturing outrage but never going the lengths to proving it!

    Contains 80% hyperbole!

Pure art! Give Tagaris a spot as a Dean’s spokes-bitch!

    Anyone for Jinnantonyx?

  5. rhys says:

JD, Oliver didn’t say McVeigh was mainstream. He implied that those that call themselves “mainstream” can be barely distinguished from extremists such as McVeigh.

Michael Reagan is the son of ex-president Ronald Reagan, the patron saint of the “mainstream” conservative movement. And he just called for a political opponent, Dean, to be hung for treason. Is that acceptable behavior for a “mainstream” conservative in your book?

  6. JD says:

Maybe President Reagan could be characterized as the mainstream of the conservative movement, but his son is not. By your logic, his liberal son could represent the conservative movement as well.

Michael Reagan is a talk show host, nothing more nothing less. He speaks for himself, not conservatives as a whole. I do not agree with what he said, and that type of rhetoric is a bi-partisan symptom of what is wrong with modern political discourse, and politics in general.

When Ms. Randi Rhodes called for a similar type of action, I do not recall any type of outcry.

However, as always, each side tends to forgive those on their own side, while acting mortally wounded when the other side engages in identical rhetoric.

Rhys – You are correct that technically, Oliver did not say that McVeigh was a mainstream conservative. But, picking nits aside, do you really think he meant anything other than to make that specific impression ?

  7. JD says:

Oliver, you threw it out there, so please, explain to all of us how Timothy McVeigh would be a mainstream conservative.

  8. AnalogKid says:

Why yes, curm, I did read the BO site. I could care less about the Christmas ‘war’, although I think that being able to go one year without having to listen to some chucklehead bitch about a ‘holiday tree’ would be nice.

What Dean said was pure crap as well as being entirely untrue. BO didn’t even spend a sentence on what Dean said, he just went directly into ‘redirect mode’ and spun it so as to make people forget about what was said.

BTW, since Dean filed for a medical exclusion from the war in Vietnam, he doesn’t have the ‘warfighter’ cred, why does he even have an opinion (using the left’s “Chickenhawk” argument)? Maybe he should have fed that line to Pelosi’s pet, Murtha?

  9. pgg2 says:

    War on Dean?

    That’s hilarious.

On a related note, Oliver, any progress lately in the War on Joe Lieberman?

  10. Jay C says:

Oliver, maybe you should read your history. In the past, especially during the Revolutionary War, traitors were hung.

You should get a new tagline. “Like A Pretzel To Logic” because it takes some serioust twisting to get from what Reagan said to a comparison of Tim McVeigh, who took part in a terrorist attack that killed 168 people.

  11. (: Tom :) says:

What Dean said was pure crap as well as being entirely untrue.

It is also pretty much the same thing pRezNit Dunsel said a long time ago. Funny how that was okay, but when Dean says it, he should be hung for treason, according to some conservatives who have been given time on the public airwaves to broadcast their views to millions of listeners.

Michael Reagan speaks for all conservatives is roughly equivalent to Ward Churchill speaks for all liberals. Funny how some people think that it’s okay to say one of them, but not the other.

When Ms. Randi Rhodes called for a similar type of action, I do not recall any type of outcry.

Maybe this would help refresh your memory? No? How about this? Or this? All of which I found after a five minute google search. Tell me again how and when Reagan can expect his visit from the Secret Service…

Tell me again how the modern conservatives are remotely different from the Tim McVeighs?

Not all of them have access to the materials that McVeigh did. And some of them prefer beating up those who say things they don’t like.

  12. JK says:

Jay…I’m confused. Are you supporting what Reagan said about “hanging” Howard Dean? For free speech?

Or, are you at least suggesting that it’s not that out of the ordinary that someone calls for a “hanging” in wartime?

What the hell is your point?

    JK

  13. ewk says:

What Dean said is also pretty much exactly what Hagel said a few weeks ago.

So I guess that means Hagel is also a traitor?

  14. ewk says:

The O’Reilly link has changed; it now says Christmas. I’m guessing some lackey at FOX is no longer employed:-)

  15. Dugger says:

Hey, I think the Democrats are finally coalescing around a hard core message:

“Surrender in Iraq and no more Christmas!!!”

Your Democratic Party everyone!!! C’mon lets hear it!!! How ’bout a big yearrrgghhhhh!!!!

    Dugger

  16. JD says:

What I found most interesting about Chairman Dean’s statement was the information that came after the “we cannot win” part of the quote. He called for the immediate withdrawal of the National Guard troops in Iraq. Essentially, he called for the removal of up to half of the troops on the ground, if I read some of the recent counts correctly.

  17. AnalogKid says:

What Dean said WAS pure crap and if you had a single clue to where your head resided, Tom, you would realize that.

Your first link 1. Pertains to the WoT, not Iraq. Two different things: One is a war the other is a front in said war. 2. Said he expressed doubts. He did not say that he knew absolutely, positively sure that it was a loser.

Why don t you try talking about your links instead of just posting up some BS and hoping it sticks, jackass.

Michael Reagan does not speak for all conservatives. Whomever told you that is a lying sack of dung and you are not much better than they are for believing it. Just as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Medved or Michael Savage do not speak for all conservatives, neither does Reagan. They each have their core audiences, but certainly not the same one.

The reason why people believe that Ward Churchill speaks for all liberals is that his extremist talking points match the majority of the folks on the left, including, probably you. Push yourself away from their points or get tossed in the mix with them. Have you stopped by my blog? Have you seen me parrot Reagan s talking points? Then leave me out of it, putz.

How nice of you to feign anger over Rhodes crappy skits about wishing death upon Bush. You post three links, proclaiming them to be about three different incidents, but sadly, you re lying and they re all about one incident where Rhodes was an idiot.

Liars, just like cheaters, never prosper, Tom.

That and if Rhodes had even an iota of talent, she wouldn t have to stoop down to publicity stunts to try and get people to listen to her lame ass show.

As for the idiot professor you and Oliver toss a link to, it will be nice to see if this guy is made of the same crap that makes other leftist professors fake their own harassment/property damage/attacks or if this is for real.

My guess is that he faked it for attention and he wouldn t be the first.

And JD, not only would taking the NG troops out of Iraq mean around a 55% of our forces leaving, it would mean the vast majority of the CD people who are helping keep these elections moving forward.

How odd, the leader of the party who named themselves after Democracy, wanting to take Democracy away from little brown people he doesn t trust it with. I guess that because his party lost the last four times out, he just doesn t think it works anymore.

  18. Frank_D says:

The real question is how bizarre has Dean become that even a conservative commentator has called for him to be hung?

Obviously, the man who needs his head examined is “Howler” Dean.

  19. John S. says:

Liars, just like cheaters, never prosper, Tom.

I’d say the American political landscape proves otherwise. Liars and cheaters do very nicely for themselves these days.

  20. John S. says:

How odd, the leader of the party who named themselves after Democracy, wanting to take Democracy away from little brown people he doesn t trust it with.

This about the most asinine fucking thing I have ever read. We are all dumber for having read it.
