Just Make It Official, Joe

Joe Lieberman writes in The Wall Street Journal that we should just stay the Bush course in Iraq, and that everything there is just awesome. Man, just become a Republican and get it over with, Lieberman.

Our Civil War?

This does not seem good at all

As the American military pushes the largely Shiite Iraqi security services into a larger role in combating the insurgency, evidence has begun to mount suggesting that the Iraqi forces are carrying out executions in predominantly Sunni neighborhoods.

Hundreds of accounts of killings and abductions have emerged in recent weeks, most of them brought forward by Sunni civilians, who claim that their relatives have been taken away by Iraqi men in uniform without warrant or explanation.

America trains people who abuse the power — I’ve heard this story before. It ends badly.

GOP Gives Up Hispanic Vote

I guess they’ve given up pretending and prefer to throw some red meat to the base, saying that they really don’t like those brown-skinned folks.

Now, I’m against “guest worker” programs myself, and I think we ought to have secure borders – including our northern border, the one the GOP doesn’t seem to care about – but the Republican’s immigration jones is nothing more than a sop to the racist base of the Republican party (see Malkin practically panting with anticipation here). I see 2008 in the GOP being a race to prove who hates the brown-skinned folks the most.

Please, Michael Steele, Keep Campaigning With “W”

I’ll just come out and say it – I want Republicans campaigning with George W. Bush as much as humanly possible.

George W. Bush s current low approval ratings were a major factor in defeats handed to Republican candidates and initiatives sponsored by the Republican governor of the nation s most populous state, surveys conducted in key 2005 battlegrounds by Zogby International show.

As Congressman Ben Cardin (MD candidate for Senate) apparently understands, ties to the unpopular lame duck president will be a major issue in 2006.

Another Wimpy Con

MRC’s Brent Bozell apparently refused to go on Scarborough Country with one of those pesky folks who would call him on his lies – sort of what Bozell does.

Another Thank You To The GOP

You’ve made it so much easier for Democrats to talk about the Republican culture of corruption… when there’s so much actual corruption! More of this, please.

Nora: Mr. President, many key figures in the Republican Party are under federal investigation. Are you going to hold men like Karl Rove responsible for his actions if he’s found guilty?

President George W. Bush: Well, as you know, uh, Karl is currently under investigation, and it’s the policy of this administration not to comment on an ongoing investigation.

Nora: Yeah? What about Tom Delay?

President George W. Bush: Also under investigation.

Nora: Bill Frist?

President George W. Bush: Investigation.

Nora: Scooter Libby?

President George W. Bush: Investigato!

Nora: Jack Abramoff?

President George W. Bush: Oh, I see where you’re going with this, Nora, and I thank you for your question because this is something I want to talk about: 9/11. September 11th was a wake-up call. Katrina was also a wake-up call. And then Rita came along, and it also woke me up. [ chuckles ] I don’t like wake-up calls. I’m a sleeper-Inner.

The Ultimate In “Balance” Stupidity

One of the halflings on MRC’s Newsbusters attempts to cry bias in pointing out that a Republican congressman (Randy “Duke” Cunningham) pleading guilty to being bribed for $2.4 million should receive “fair and balanced” coverage with a corrupt Democratic state senator. Up next: How the 9th grade class president’s misapproriations of the candy fund is exactly the same as Bush’s lies about WMDs! Fair and balanced, kids.

Literary Crutches

I’m not the biggest Michael Wilbon fan. I don’t expect the home town columnist to be a cheerleader for the team, but Wilbon is a Chicago importee who actively hates the D.C. teams — especially the Redskins (Thomas Boswell and Tony Kornheiser manage to be fair in their columns without being homers), but the thing I hate about his columns the most? He can’t seem to get one out without saying “sorry, no account”. What’s up with that?

Begin Now This War Has

Howard Dean slowly rubbed his fingers against the leather of his chair. He d coveted this position of power for so long, it had consumed his mind, and now he had it. As chairman of the Democratic party he controlled the levers of power over an entire nation, the ability to do whatever it takes to control America& and the world. Thanksgiving had passed, and now Plan A was ready for full implementation. The War on Christmas was nigh.

Dean swiveled around in his chair to face an array of gigantic video screens. He sipped from his cup of cocoa, then pressed a button on the silver console.

 Is everyone here?
The ACLU is here, my lord.
Hollywood, reporting in, oh beloved one.
The liberal media is here, Governor.
And I, George Soros, stand ready to finance this glorious campaign.

Dean rubbed his hands in glee. Great, just great. The stars are aligned. We may be in the minority, under-financed, and shut out of the mainstream media& but we shall have our war on Christmas&

He began cackling, and the others joined in. The liberals had declared war on Christmas, and it was good.
