<blockquote>local...gossip</blockquote>
Based on what? According to the news reports I read the preacher did not know the assailant and the assailant punched Oral Roberts' son 15 years ago during a broadcast rehearsal. Wouldn't you think the guy would tell reporters why he punched the preacher if it was due to adultery?

And yet the local (to the preacher) gossip is that the preacher was boffing the man's wife. Turning the other cheek during the sermon was easier than facing that argument with the loud speakers on!

I have my own limits for "turn the other cheek," but that aside, this pastor said, "We don't forgive because we want to. We forgive because it is the right thing to do." An excellent example of practicing what one preaches.

I was quite impressed by that pastor. Imagine if Christians actually behaved that way on a regular basis.

Wouldn't Jesus have preemptively beat the shit out of the attacker? Then spread freedom all over his family?

Based on what I saw and heard, I think I like that guy. Given the circumstances, IMHO, I think he reacted in a very Christ-like manner. I hope the flock took his subsequent words to heart. God knows they should remember it next time they go to the polls in Tulsa. (Unfortunately, they wouldn't find many worthy candidates, Republican or Democratic. Kucinich maybe?)

I was expecting to find something odd in his response. However, I do not see what is so odd about a man of the clergy praying for the man that did this to him, and praying for God's forgiveness for the man. Actually, that is a response I would expect.
