Bill O’Reilly continues to channel his idealogical forefather, Joe McCarthy

On the November 28 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, host Bill O’Reilly pointed to “a very secret plan” by the “secular progressive” movement, which he said aims to “diminish Christian philosophy in the U.S.A.” It is a plan he links to his perception that many now avoid the holiday greeting “Merry Christmas.” O’Reilly’s disclosure of this “secret plan” was followed the day after by a rant on his radio show against the “hateful liars” who “spit out” “blatant propaganda” that is “picked up by the mainstream media, and rammed down the public’s throat.”

ALSO: Fox is apparently an ally of the War On Christmas.

    What is with these absurd attempts to compare Bill O’Reilly to Joe McCarthy?

    Before everybody’s knees jerk, this is not me endorsing what O’Reilly said. I wouldn’t know what O’Reilly said. Know why? I don’t watch his show and I don’t listen to his radio show.

    Joe McCarthy was a United States Senator. He had real power which he abused. O’Reilly is a talking head. A TV and radio host. Nothing more. Bottom line is, attack what O’Reilly says. Stop making silly comparisons to McCarthy.

    BTW, considering the fact that George Soros’s dollars have found their way into Media Matters coffers, I think they have the obligation to point that out when they write pieces defending him.

    O’Reilly has a major national platform with access to millions of people’s homes. He’s been shown to be an influence on public policy. If we were to have a modern day Joe McCarthy, his home would be on Fox — not in the senate because that’s where the eyeballs are.

    Senators, especially McCarthy, used to get the sort of television time that O’Reilly gets today.

    I would wager that more Americans are getting their thoughts shaped by Bill O’Reilly than Bill Frist.

    Let’s rephrase: “I don’t pay any attention to O’Reilly’s shows so I don’t know anything about what he’s saying but it’s going to far to compare what he’s saying to McCarthy.” So Jay C. just how blissful are you in your ignorance? Apparently very.

    Media figures have no power? Thanks for clarifying that. Could you suggest the right wing stop bitching about Hollywood movie stars? And while you’re at it, could you please explain to me how comparing O’Reilly’s tactics to McCarthy’s is not an attack on what O’Reilly saying? Seems to me that the comparison is a very clear, relevant and effective attack on what O’Reilly is saying. It’s pisses you off for some reason.

    (And don’t look now but secular humanists are also putting flouride in the water.)
