USSR 2.0

I wonder how much longer the American government is going to continue ignoring the world’s second largest nuclear superpower’s continuing backslide into totalitarianism?

We never gave a damn about its totalitarianism before except to demonize it in propaganda, and we have new official enemies now. Nothing to see here, move along, we’ve always been at war with Eurasia and allied with Oceania.

Why would Bush stop it? He is envious of it. Pooty poot is soul mate. I looked the man in the eye,” Mr. Bush said of Putin after their meeting in
Slovenia in June, adding, “I was able to get a sense of his soul.”
and If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m
    the dictator.

Sounds like a People for the American Way dream come true to me.

    By the way: Happy Thanksgiving!

January 21, 2009, I suspect. Unless of course, another GOoPer wins the Presidency, in which case all bets are off.

  5. Chris Z says:

Desert Rat is correct. But, by then it might be too late.

My gut feeling on this is Putin will step down in a fashion like Octavian did. Well, I’ll go retire now… To which the people refuse and he ascends.

  6. Semanticleo says:

I follows that since Reagan is the sole reason for the fall of the Soviet Empire, his legacy demands he retain credit for it’s re-emergence.

  7. Frank_D says:

Only in your twisted illogical mind…

Praise from Caesar. Just remember, even hermit crabs change shells occasionally.

  9. Tuco Ramirez the Rat says:

Jimmy Carter, the last Democratic President to hold office during the Cold War, stood by and did nothing while the USSR invaded and occupied a sovereign nation.

His response? Pull American athletes out of the Olympics. Yeah, that really showed ‘em, Mr. Killer Rabbit.

  10. Calling all toasters says:

George W. Bush, the last Republican president of the United States, stood idly by while Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld invaded and occupied a sovereign nation.

  11. frameone says:

It’s bullshit to say that Carter did nothing. Carter began the policy of supplying the Afghan resistance with arms and supplies to resist the Soviet invasion. Reagan only continued that policy.

  12. bryan says:

Yes, we all loved the Taliban and the proto-Al Queada back then. Wasn’t Rambo 2 or 3 dedicated to the fighters in Afghanistan? Maybe not fighters, but definitely Afghanistan.
