Another word: Williams.
Actually, I’ve got several words: If they can’t entice us with something new twenty-seven years later, where do they get the gall to swipe from an excellent film?
I have no idea what to make of this movie yet. Trailer had a promising atmosphere. The pacing and grandiosity reminded me of the earlier Max Fleischer Superman cartoons, complimented by the art deco aesthetic of the set design, which looks almost exactly like Tim Burton’s Batman.
Kinda’ cool, but it’s only a teaser and I don’t want to get my hopes up.
Equilibrium, no. But you should see him in The Machinist. OMG, he takes method acting to the extreme. I can’t imagine he hasn’t done some sort of permanent damage to his body when he took on that role.
Bale was in the newest Batman movie, I did remember him lionked to this as well though. From what I hear it is some unknown actor, guess we will see. (American Psycho was great BTW)
Wait…we need Superman to light us to the way to becoming a great people? You better show me some pretty damn impressive moral wonders on Krypton if you’re gonna go there, Jor-el buddy.
As to the Williams music…hey, if you’ve got it, you’d be a fool not to use it in the teaser. The music’s usually not done a year in advance anyway, and it’s one of the great pieces of movie music for its purpose — better than the Star Wars main theme, in fact. (Its sudden appearance, for about 2 seconds, in Smallville just as Chris Reeve tells Tom Welling where he really came from was one of the bast moments of that whole series.)
Superman wouldn’t need to show us the moral wonders of Krypton–he’s a Kryptonian by birth but an American by growth. Furthermore, as somebody who lost his first home, he’s dedicated to the preservation of this one as a whole–which should be a quality we’d praise in an American.
Re: my comment about the yellow.
I think the yellow in the preview subconsciously recalls the light at dawn, so it triggers a feeling of a new day, of hope, rebirth.
Okay, I’m just a sucker for Superman, I guess – this preview rocks just by reminding us that Superman can be an icon. It is a teaser, after all, it isn’t meant to give us any “scenes.” It’s about the icon, and having him back in the hands of a director who understands this icon.
Bryan Singer, the director, did the first two X-Men movies. He’s making this movie as (roughly) a sequel to Superman 2, so I like the fact that he recaps some of the previous events (recall, Superman 2′s opening credits are a recap of the first movie.) As such, we can probably expect Williams’ theme to be used in the film, as well (IMDB says so.)
I wouldn’t say that the design looks like Burton’s Batman – sure, there’s some Art Deco feel to it, but Burton’s deco is a grey and black with fairly extreme lines, while the trailer’s deco has color and a more real look.
Note the prominence of yellow in the trailer. Not sure what that means.
