More Cowardice From Glenn Reynolds

Again Reynolds shows that he just doesn’t have the guts to say what he wants to. Reynolds, why do you keep linking to people who say Democrats are unpatriotic without just saying it yourself? Just say it, your inner Joe McCarthy will be pleased – we know its what you espouse anyway.

Democrats are unpatriotic. And you’re a buffoon.
Happy now?
Gee Sam, I am a Democrat and I didn’t realize I was unpatriotic. Man, I have been in the wrong line of work since 1990 I suppose. Do you have any openings for me in the Private Sector? Incidentally, when was the last time that you showed your Patriotism and deployed to a hot zone in support of your country’s interests? Certainly you had to have done so more times than me, because I am an unpatriotic Democrat…..right?
Dkelsmith,
Please accept my sincerest apology if you took any personal offense to my remark. My comment was in no way meant to disparage you or other patriotic Democrats who love this country and serve it faithfully either in the military or otherwise. It was a response to Oliver and his constant self-righteous nonsense that only the benevolent Democratic Party cares about the direction of the country, the poor and downtrodden, and the evil Republicans are only out for their own self interests. He’s an hysterical joke of a “commentator”, and I despise his ignorance.
I have read many of your previous posts and know that you are a very reasonable man. Your comments have always appeared to be well-reasoned and thoughtful. I must ask you though, what is it about the current Democratic Party that you like?
Again, I’m sorry if I offended you.

Unfortunately Sam suffers from Pat Robertson syndrome. You have to excuse him.
Sam,
I apologize for the snide response. I suppose that it was obvious that you didn’t literally mean that all Dems are unpatriotic. However, I got a little testy with that response and it was inappropriate. I am a Democrat, but when it comes to social and fiscal issues I am more of a Centrist. I have become more and more toward the center since I became a parent.
In regard to your assertions that Oliver is self-righteous, I have to jump to Oliver’s defense and say, “Who among us is not self-righteous to a certain degree”? We all believe what we believe, and we surmise that we can shoot wholes through anybody else’s argument. I don’t particularly believe that the Dems are the salvation, I disagree with a lot of things, probably as much as you do with the Republican Party, but I identify with some issues that I really don’t feel comfortable discussing….as a service member in a forum like this.
I don’t think that Oliver is ignorant, he is more liberal than I am, but I do like him and his website. I do a lot more reading than what I do posting on the web, and I read about as many liberal blogs as I do conservative blogs. No harm no foul, so don’t feel as if you have to show me any special treatment. Military service, or lack thereof, should not give a person a pass to opine without facing repercussions. I was wrong to toss that out there on you.
