Ending Governor Bob

The time is right to take back Maryland

A new poll conducted for The Baltimore Sun shows Governor Robert Ehrlich is behind his two chief rivals in the race for governor.

Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley is leading by 15 percentage points. The poll shows Montgomery County Executive Douglas Duncan leading the Republican incumbent by five percentage points.

And why is Ehrlich doing so badly?

Recent surveys have shown that Bush’s popularity in Maryland is at an all-time low. When Ehrlich entered the governor’s race four years ago, the president’s popularitywas near its peak.

Ehrlich slipped into the governor’s mansion because the Democrats fielded a lackluster candidate and the national GOP’s approval was at an historic high — and Ehrlich still just won by 4%.

Somehow I think in the next 12 months Ehrlich is going to wish there were less images like this floating around:

Maryland is not GOP country.

Several poll respondents said they once held a positive view of Ehrlich but had soured on him because they found his policies less moderate than they expected.

Vanessa Harris, 40, a Democrat from Baltimore County, said she voted for Ehrlich when he was in Congress but would not do so again.

“He cut a lot of programs, I tell you that,” she said. “As he’s gotten further up the ladder, he has really proved to be a Republican.”

Kerry won Maryland 56-43
Gore won Maryland 57-40
Clinton won Maryland 54-38 and 50-36

Got it?

The shame here is that either O’Malley or Duncan would make an outstanding Governor. It’s a shame one of these guys has to lose.

Either way, Ehrlich is toast. He’s done absolutely nothing for MD.
