The people that you routinely apply those ridiculous labels and descriptions to were in favor of Miers.

If you mean by “exile”, the people who think that the Constitution is whatever the last judge on the 9th Circuit CT says it is, then you mean all the liberal democrats in the US.

Certain people have a way of saying things that shake us at the core. Even when the words do not seem harsh or offensive, the impact is shattering. What we could be experiencing is the intent behind the words. When we intend to do good, we do. When we intend to do harm, it happens. We must always keep in mind the message the President intends to send with his nominations to the Supreme Court. Unlike any other single act, a Supreme Court nominee s symbolic intent endures, as do their opinions. Roberts nomination represents retrenchment, Miers the maintenance of the status quo, the next is up in the air. I pray it is the same as the last but I am realistic.

She’s a very mediocre person who happened to trade on her creepy fawning cronyism for an intellectually retarded man-boy to get a nomination to the highest court in the land.

The spotlight merely accentuated her sad mediocrity.

But let’s remember her put her in this spotlight.

Setting hyperbole aside would decimate your post, Oliver. But the most important point I want to make is that there will be no “far right power grab on the American courts”

The Supreme Court is not an elected body, it is an appointed body. Its members are appointed by different Presidents, for life, for two big reasons:

1) Different Presidents come from different backgrounds: ideological, political and social. We’ve had conservative Presidents, liberal Presidents, religious Presidents, intellectual Presidents, and each of them has different motives for their choices. This was probably anticipated by the Founders.

2) The Justices are chosen for life, so that they have no fear of losing their jobs later at the whim of a Congress or Pesident. It works as a self – moderating force. Without it, the Justices would be nothing more than political pawns. Probably, another conservative judge will serve to effect a change in the voting habits of some other Justice. All the Justices are quite aware of how their votes count, and each of them can count from 1 to 5 with no problem.
