Oprah Quitting TV Show In 2011

Nextgame

It’s clear with the knifing of Miers that the far right has kicked the butt of the Bush White House. The next nominee will in all likelihood be a hard right ideologue who thinks Roe is a myth and civil rights protections a work of fiction. One analysis on tv said that it would take the senate a month to prep for the next nominee which would push the entire process past the holiday hiatus… and into the election year.

Is 2006 going to be the year where we fight over a far right power grab on the American courts? Does Bush want that? The reason the right has to nominate people like Roberts, Miers, and even Bush himself is because America simply does not embrace the right-wing crazies.

The rightwing blogs are abuzz with how the ‘Gang of Fourteen” with it’s traitorous RINO’s like Lindsey Graham, mind you, will find themselves SOL.

As Armando says; ‘it’ll be a wingnut judge with a long resume. Prepare for war”.

    OW;

What’s up with the ‘moderation’ . What triggers it?

  3. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Yeah. What he said.

  4. Frank_D says:

Two links in one post put the post into “awaiting moderation” status.

Setting hyperbole aside would decimate your post, Oliver. But the most important point I want to make is that there will be no “far right power grab on the American courts”

The Supreme Court is not an elected body, it is an appointed body. Its members are appointed by different Presidents, for life, for two big reasons:

    1) Different Presidents come from different backgrounds: ideological, political and social. We’ve had conservative Presidents, liberal Presidents, religious Presidents, intellectual Presidents, and each of them has different motives for their choices. This was probably anticipated by the Founders.

    2) The Justices are chosen for life, so that they have no fear of losing their jobs later at the whim of a Congress or Pesident. It works as a self – moderating force. Without it, the Justices would be nothing more than political pawns. Probably, another conservative judge will serve to effect a change in the voting habits of some other Justice. All the Justices are quite aware of how their votes count, and each of them can count from 1 to 5 with no problem.

    See? Two links…

  6. Will he cave or, as he seems wont to do, climb further in his cocoon-like echo chamber?

Two links in one post put the post into awaiting moderation status.

Not always. And there’s more than that. I’ve had several posts without any links that went into moderation.

  8. Jadegold says:

Bottomline is that the rightwing Taliban now know AWOL George can be rolled anytime. The drunken fratboy is now a very lame duck drunken fratboy.

  9. Frank_D says:

I learned this at another WordPress blog. Two links will put the post into “awaiting moderation” status.

What other things make it happen, I don’t know.

From the WordPress blog: From WordPress’s BlogWe have the options to reflect that they only go into moderation if they contain 3 or more links, or these spam words, blah blah blah. However no matter what I do, it seems that every comment goes into moderation.

    Previous OW claim:

So you re telling me, of all the millions of gifted and talented women in this great nation of ours, a full 52% of our population, the best he could do was his pal and crony Harriet Miers?

    For shame.

  11. Jadegold says:

In a way, you have to feel sorry for Harriet Miers.

She’s a very mediocre person who happened to trade on her creepy fawning cronyism for an intellectually retarded man-boy to get a nomination to the highest court in the land.

The spotlight merely accentuated her sad mediocrity.

But let’s remember her put her in this spotlight.

  12. JD says:

Exactly what do you describe as the far right. Usually, around here, it is Dobson, et al., but they seemed to approve of Miers, much to your dismay.

  13. trevorwells says:

What is the quality of your intent?

Certain people have a way of saying things that shake us at the core. Even when the words do not seem harsh or offensive, the impact is shattering. What we could be experiencing is the intent behind the words. When we intend to do good, we do. When we intend to do harm, it happens. What each of us must come to realize is that our intent always comes through. We cannot sugarcoat the feelings in our heart of hearts. The emotion is the energy that motivates. We cannot ignore what we really want to create. We should be honest and do it the way we feel it. What we owe to ourselves and everyone around is to examine the reasons of our true intent.

My intent will be evident in the results.”- Justice Thurgood Marshal, (1967-1991)

We must always keep in mind the message the President intends to send with his nominations to the Supreme Court. Unlike any other single act, a Supreme Court nominee s symbolic intent endures, as do their opinions. Roberts nomination represents retrenchment, Miers the maintenance of the status quo, the next is up in the air. I pray it is the same as the last but I am realistic.

  14. People who believe that America is a theocracy or that the constitution is “in exile” qualify as far right with me.

  15. Frank_D says:

Well, that’s swell, Oliver. You can count the number who believe that America is a theocracy on the fingers of one hand, and the number of people who believe that the Constitution is in “exile” on the fingers of the other hand.

If you mean by “exile”, the people who think that the Constitution is whatever the last judge on the 9th Circuit CT says it is, then you mean all the liberal democrats in the US.

  16. JD says:

    Oliver

The people that you routinely apply those ridiculous labels and descriptions to were in favor of Miers.

  17. nawoods says:

    JD,

Don’t forget, we are at war with Eurasia, and at peace with East Asia. We’ve always been at war with Eurasia….

If ever a post demonstrated that this guy is not a serious commentor, this is the one. Face facts, and I truly believe this, if GWB nominated Harry Reid for this seat on the bench, OW would find something to bitch about. He would probably complain that Bush was trying to change the balance of power in the senate so he could make his tax cuts permanant, so he can continue to pursue his favorite hobby of taking money from poor starving women and children, or some other such nonsense!

  18. pionar says:

    JD,

    name one. Just one.

  19. JWG says:

pionar, how about two? Dobson & Robertson

  20. Quaker in a Basement says:

Dobson on what day? His support was pretty squishy.

  21. JWG says:

I answered you question, Quaker, but it’s “awaiting moderation”. I suppose because I linked to Dobson’s site and/or a previous OW post.

  22. JWG says:

    Dobson Welcomes Miers’ Nomination
IIRC, Democrats were demanding that Dobson be called to testify about his conversations with Rove about Miers. Oliver, too.
