Maybe all this should have been discussed in an open and honest way before the march to war began. Oh, excuse me. It never would have happened if we had done that unthinkable thing. Now it’s too late for self-recrimination.

It is our opportunity to take the “Grand Tour”. We should have had Bush and Gang in the White House in WW II. They would have listened to Patton, marginalized Bradley and Eisenhower, then continued marching on to the Kremlin.

December 15 will be a major political turning point in the Iraq war – for America. Because after that date, there will be no more definitive milestone dates where we can look to for progress. The permanent government will be in place, and the job of the new Iraqi government will be to govern. The transitional period will officially be over. If we continue to maintain a presence there, we will have to justify it differently than in the past, where we could always say that we wanted to ensure that Iraqis could vote in peace for their own government. Expect politicians from BOTH political parties to demand a major withdrawal after December 15 as the mission becomes progressively more unclear. Fighting the terrorists? At whose request? Protecting the new government? For whom? If the latest British army poll of Iraqis is accurate, only about 10% of Iraqis still wanted Coalition troops in the country. How long can an elected government ignore the people’s will?

The talking points of positivism (wishful thinking) about the approval of the Consitution and Parliamentary elections in December better bear fruit. The cons and the religious right know this will set them back for decades if it doesn’t. It is not fair to suggest that’s their primary concern, but god help them if that becomes the perception of the american people.

As for the Press, they will be weenies until it is popular to become otherwise.
They are mainstream wankers, just like the majority of our elected leaders.
