Did we actually use body count figures in previous wars? I thought it was Robert McNamara’s idea for Vietnam.

We also wore uniforms and used hand held weapons before, too.

Iraq is starting to look a lot like Viet Nam, er, um … Korea, uh, I mean … World War II … that is, World War I … no, the Spanish American War … the Civil War, yeah, that’s it!

“Specific numbers are used to periodically provide context and help frame particular engagements,” said Brig. Gen. Donald Alston, director of communications for the U.S. military command in Baghdad. He added, however, that there is no plan “to issue such numbers on a regular basis to score progress.”
