  1. Rarely are Dems booked on CNN programming, and they are AWOL on Fox, the Sunday shows act as if Dems don’t exist 9/10 times. I’m making fun of the fact that people say silly things. But I wouldn’t expect you to get that.

  2. stwendeler says:

Oliver…. I don’t understand. Are you making fun of the fact that Fox News puts on a conservative pundit in Ann Coulter? Or that toe-sucker Dick Morris (aka Clinton’s guy) likes Rove from a political strategist standpoint?

And the O’Reilly snips… were they even about Rove? Only “opinion” voiced by O’Reilly was about a “smear site” but no idea what he’s referring to…

I suppose it’s better to just watch CNN where it’s all Dems all the time. Or the nets, where the Sunday shows are hosted by Dems (Stephanoupolous, Russert, Schieffer, Matthews). At least Fox does a balanced show – Wallace challenges both sides of the aisle and the panel is (rare for a Sunday show) balanced between Libs AND Conservatives.

    “People” say funny things?

Democrats were noticeably AWOL from your string of snippets …

Rarely are Dems booked on CNN programming, and they are AWOL on Fox

Dems don’t have to be “booked” on CNN — although I’m sure you are grossly exaggerating about their rarely being booked — they are CNN’s programming.

Patrick Leahy on FOX today http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163372,00.html

  4. stwendeler says:

yes, “people” say funny (and dumb) things. But it’s not solely a partisan problem.

And no (as Frank points out), Dems aren’t “booked” on the Sunday shows – because they’re HOSTING the programs.

And yes, Wallace interviews Dems on Fox News Sunday… and the panel? 2 GOP, 2 Dems.. Compare that to This Week: 1 Lib hosting, 2 Libs on panel, and 1 GOPer (Will) that is allowed to make a snarky comment once in a while that goes completely ignored.

But, other than that… great post, Ollie!

  5. Which Dems host shows on CNN. Name one. Face The Nation had an all-GOP panel to discuss Tom DeLay, Meet The Press regularly books only Republicans, This Week allows George Will to dominate the program – the loon is enlisted as an impartial reporter for issues on the program, and given his own segment to regularly lie bloviate. And Fox News Sunday has Kristol, Wallace, Barnes, etc. and then has the nominally liberal Juan Williams on for “balance”. You may forget that I sort of work with these outlets every day, and can see the b.s. from the right a mile away.

  6. Semanticleo says:

George Will is the stuffed moosehead that looms out over the patrons at your local saloon.

He’s the one that originated the idea of brother/sister marriage, hiring himself out to the GOP to prepare Reagan for the debates with Jimmy Carter.

We have him to thank for breaking ground in the incestuous relationship between the Washington Press Corps that, hopefully has reached it’s zenith in Judith Miller and the hacks in WH and the Hill. He should be relegated to snarking because he is the Bullwinkle of B>S. Imperious little twit

These posters have a point as far as the political leanings of people at the old big 3 networks. There aren’t a lot of movement conservatives at CBS news.
But their leanings do not matter if they fail to do their jobs. For years we have watched GOP’s hit their talking points unchallenged while those of us paying attention knew the points were patently untrue. No one said boo to them as they lied about Joe Wilson, lied about yellowcake, lied about aluminum tubes, lied about WMD sites in Iraq. And then the reporters stand by as the admin and their flacks trash anyone who dares call them liars. Nice job of holding their coats big 3.

  8. Frank_D says:

gradioc: Just stop it: Where did you that these things were lies? In the blogosphere?

Of course, the networks covered those stories, just as they are drooling over the prospect of a “Paddy Wagon” complete with mustachioed Keystone cops taking away half the cabinet, the Veep, and (you hope and pray) the Prez, while they’re at it…

It’s time for this “Liberal media bias? What media bias?” nonsense to come to an end. It’s been plain as a pimple on Miss America’s nose, since Tet 1968 was declared a defeat by Walter Cronkite — when it wasn’t.

  9. gradioc says:

Frank D. wants to know where I got the idea that a lot of the “evidence” cited in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq was false. No, Frank, not from the blogs. I don’t beleive anything there without confirmation.
No, Frank, I was reading the reports of people on the ground in places like Iraq and Nigeria from agencies like the IAEA and the UN inspection regime. These were published right out in the open at places like Foreign Affairs magazine. Any one could read them. You just have to pay attention and be skeptical.
I knew at the time of the “17 words” in the State of the Union that British intelligence had serious doubts about the yellowcake reports (which came exclusively from Italian intel). I also knew the aluminum tubes were for a type of field artillery rocket Iraq was still allowed to build.
I had read Scott Wimmer and other Americans NOT working for the U.S. government say that they had seen no evidence of Baghdad restarting their WMD programs.
In 2002 and 2003 it was all out there for anyone really paying attention. Unfortunately, that does not seem to include the President or his advisors.

  10. Semanticleo says:

    gradioc;

The 16 words; The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa .

It is interesting to note that in spite of the fact that Cheney, Rice and minions kept hammering “mushroom cloud” that Bush would weasel his State of the Union address by referencing “British”. This suggests the need for legal loopholes was anticipated by the Administration. Hence their rallying the troops around the ‘technically legal’ defense as the only strategy left for their deteriorating credibility.

And it is not over yet. They may still prevail with the cynical “the end justifies the means’ worldview.

You are, of course, right about the exact quote. I did not take the time to go back and check it. I’m also sorry that I cannot cite the articles that gave me this imformation. I don’t keep magazines that long.
All I can say is that when I watched that speech on TV I sat up and said “Wait a minute, that’s been discredited.” Somehow no one at NBCBSABCNN knew that.
