Rove Told Jury Libby May Have Been His Source In Leak Case
The account is the first time a person familiar with Rove’s testimony has provided clues about where the deputy chief of staff learned about Plame, and confirmed that Rove and Libby were involved in a conversation about her before her identity became public. This further undermines the White House’s contention early in the case that neither man was involved in leaking her identity to the media.
So Karl Rove didn’t tell anybody, wait he heard it from someone, wait he talked about it with Scooter Libby, oh wait he told it to Matthew Cooper sort of and the President had no idea what was going on wait he did know, he’s just been lying for two years.
Got it? Good.
Oh, and the Post kind of buries the lead:
But White House officials and lawyers are prepared for Fitzgerald to charge at least one official, and maybe more.
“Maybe more, maybe more… big money, no whammies!”
“White House adviser Karl Rove told the grand jury in the CIA leak case that I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff, may have told him that CIA operative Valerie Plame worked for the intelligence agency…”
Is this a test defense? Run it up the flagpole and see if it gets shot full of holes. Is Stooter to be the fall guy? What if Scoot is not happy with that and he says Rove ‘may’ have told HIM about Plame? When wingnuts collide.
By the end of this week everyone will be giving up everyone to save themselves. The famous loyalty that Bush holds so dear in his inner circle will reveal itself to be little more than the opportunisitc sycophantism it has always been.
It was not a secret that she worked for the CIA. What she did for the CIA was the secret. The fact that she worked for the CIA and helped send Wilson to Niger after Wilson denied it was allegedly the point of the discussions about Plame.
We’ll need more details from Fitzgerald to see who knew about and leaked Plame’s covert background. The fact that Plame was CIA was not a secret and could be freely discussed.
JWg, Not 100% sure its true that her working for the CIA could be freely discussed. I think the bone of contention will get down to whether either saying ‘Wilson’s wife’, or Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA – violates stautue.
Dugger.
Buh? Wasn’t she working for a CIA front organisation, under cover? How could she have done that and “openly” be a CIA employee?
Being a CIA employee is not necessarily a secret, especially when you drive to and from Langley everyday for years. Wilson and Plame did not hide the fact that she worked for the CIA. They did hide what she did for the CIA.
It would be refreshing if the “Law and Order” republicans would stop parsing the nuance of statutes and practice what they preach. “The Rule of Law” is more than a technicality. The spirit of the law is the true “Ghost in the Machine”. That seems a bit overlooked in all these discussions.
JWG,
“Wilson and Plame did not hide the fact that she worked for the CIA. ”
Hope this is correct. It wasn’t my impression that this was the case, but I’d be quite happy to be wrong on this one.
