Culture of Corruption: Frist, DeLay

What happens when you let Cons run our government? It rots.

The news that federal prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission are looking into Frist s sale of stock in HCA Inc., the hospital operating company founded by his family, comes as a criminal investigation continues of Jack Abramoff, a high-powered Republican lobbyist, and his ties to DeLay of Texas.

Less than a week ago, a former White House official was arrested in the Abramoff investigation.

Con ideology doesn’t actually work for anyone besides the cons themselves who will say and do anything to line their pockets at the expense of America and common decency.

    Occasionally I have to repeat a post because there are a few ‘thread-busters’ out there who move-on when the argument gets uncomfortable. So here goes;

    The death penalty is too good for the war profiteers and politician/business criminals of this country.

    The punishment should fit the crime;

    First (when convicted in court) they should be disgorged of all material assets (they can keep their clothes)

    Next, they will be assigned a job at Burger King or McDonald’s (their CHOICE, Frank) earning minimum wage for a period of at least 10 years.
    They will (by financial necessity, AND by edict) be forced to live in Section 8 housing during the period of house arrest so they can really see how the poor live and POSSIBLY learn some empahy (It may be that the true sociopaths cannot learn empathy, but that’s too freaking bad!)

    Try to guess what the recidivism rate would be for these dirtbags.

    Don’t think they would do it twice. Take away that which they VALUE MOST!!!! MONEY

  2. Semanticleo says:

    One Postsacript;

    For Orin Scrivello DDS and Dr Mengele Frist, a public hanging will follow the completion of their workfare sentences

  3. outer_space says:

    they dont value money, they value power.

  4. Semanticleo says:

    space-

    wealth is one path to power, power is a path to wealth.

  5. Hedley says:

    Regardless of whatever information Frist may or may not have had in making his stock trades, referring to him as “Dr. Mengele” is utterly contemptible and without shame.

    Dr. Frist was in New Orleans treating victims, where was Dr. Dean?

  6. Semanticleo says:

    Hedley;

    Accurate albeit obtuse.

    I celebrate my shamelessness

  7. Semanticleo says:

    dugger;

    care to make a substantive comment about the proper punishment for convicted war-profiteers?

  8. dugger1 says:

    Semant,

    You’ve been drinking!

    Dugger

  9. Semanticleo says:

    Thanks JD

    But maybe instead of obsessing about the least of the sinners, you could maybe address the bigger issue of war profiteering.

    I can’t seem to find any conservative that puts his slippers on instead of his running shoes when it comes to debating this issue. Why is that?

  10. JD says:

    Folks like Ms. Cleo are so cute. They come in, attempt to dictate the parameters of debate, insinuate by association that Sen. Frist’s issues are somehow related to Rep. DeLay’s, compare them to truly horrific monsters rather than simply people with differing political perspectives, and then complain that a response is not substantive, again implying that Sen. Frist and Rep. DeLay are somehow convicted war profiteers … Nice work.

  11. dugger1 says:

    “care to make a substantive comment about the proper punishment for convicted war-profiteers?”

    Gracias, but no amigo. And what have you done with the real Semant. Whats that goatee?

    Dugger, Oh My God. They’ve killed Semant!

  12. SaveFarris says:

    You’re right. We’d be so much better under the scandal-free leadership of the party of … Chuck Schumer.

  13. Semanticleo says:

    Thats what I thought

  14. Dugger says:

    Semant,

    Well if you are going to pin me down. I support no punishment for Republican war profiteers as long as they exploit mostly widows and orphans. And the homeless.

    And BTW, why not let the laws apply to war profiteers or anti-war demonstrators? If they break the law they pay the legal price . If no law is broken, no legal price. That too simple? Was there a big issue here? Which ‘war profiteer ‘ did you have in mind?

    Dugger, sheesh

  15. Semanticleo says:

    We’ll get into it in the next thread.

    This issue is not going away

    BTW;

    Dugger. Stop with the republican persecution complex.

    Demo, Indy, Repub, libertarian, Green, I don’t give a crap what your party loyalty or affiliation. If you are guilty of manipulating the infrastructure of this or any country at the expense of lives for the purpose of gaining more wealth or power, you should be stripped of all you hold dear. Period

    BiPartisan enough for you?

  16. Semanticleo says:

    BTW;

    Cherry Pickers.. Try not to manipulate the discussion into a huge diversionary debate about protesters. We KNOW what we’re talking about here. Don’t we? Please don’t insult my intelligence.

  17. Dugger says:

    “If you are guilty of manipulating the infrastructure of this or any country at the expense of lives for the purpose of gaining more wealth or power, you should be stripped of all you hold dear. Period”

    Is ‘manipulating the infrastructure’, in and of itself, a crime? Even for the purpose of making money? Don’ think so – of course depending on how you define “manipulating infrastructure” (building a bridge?). If it intentionally causes loss of life , I’d say yes its likely a crime and support harsh penalties, even the super sized Fry Daddy. Even if the offender were the OW-made notorious Republican oppressor Paris Hilton (why would a good Republican like Mr Hilton give his daughter a d*mn Frenchie name like that?).

    Dugger

  18. JD says:

    No, we do not know … Judging from your prior posts, it appears that you simply ASSUME war profiteering on behalf of some yet to be named entity, and then go off on your rants about how they should be punished. How about naming them, showing how they are guilty, showing us where they are being prosecuted, and my guess is that we will all be happy to respond.

    However, simply because one does not respond to some vauge allusions about some yet to be identified companies engaged in alleged violations of the law does not mean one supports them. It simply means you appear to be being intentionally vague.

  19. Semanticleo says:

    Dugger;

    You have demonstrated clarity of thinking in the past. Don’t quit now.

  20. JD says:

    Ms. Cleo : How about being a little less intentionally obtuse, and spelling out what you are talking about ?

  21. Semanticleo says:

    JD;

    For you I recommend the T-h-e T-h-r-e-e S-t-o-o-g-es

  22. JD says:

    Who are you suggesting is engaged in war profiteering ?

  23. JD says:

    Thanks for the spelling … Actually, that response was fairly enlightening. Rather than attempting to actually engage in some type of debate, which is what you have been suggesting that you wish to do, it is apparent that you just want to shout down some un-named entity for various illegal and/or immoral transgressions, and disgorge all of the involved individuals without any type of due process, and while you are at it, we should cut off a couple of their fingers, kick their dog, and take their children.

    If you want to have a debate, let us have it. But your childish actions and your intentionally vague ramblings are at best, tiresome.

  24. Semanticleo says:

    “We ll get into it in the next thread.”

    JD;

    Try reading. It’s the better portion of writing.

    Tell your counterparts, Frank and Dugger, the issue will not go away.

  25. dugger1 says:

    Semant,

    You have yet to define an issue.

    Whats your position on the appropriate punishment for crime?

    Dugger

  26. Semanticleo says:

    Dugger;

    First, define the issue for yourself.

    Come up with your own definition of “War Profiteering” My definition is not the issue.

    Next, once you have settled on a definition: Does disgorgement of assets seem to be an appropriate punishment?

  27. Dugger says:

    Dugger

    “First, define the issue for yourself.”

    RIIIGGHHHHTTTT!!! First you whine about nobody responding to a very vague proposition. Then you are asked multiple times by mulitple posters to provide some specifics and you tell us to make YOUR case for you. Don’t think so.

    Dugger, What a very deep man, this deep young man must be.

  28. Semanticleo says:

    Dugger;

    I can’t make it any easier for you.

    How difficult is it for you to define (in your OWN terms, not mine)
    war profiteering?

    Then tell me whether ‘disgorgement’ is a just punishment for such profiteers.

    Let’s say you could, as a federal prosecutor, make the case that Al Gore’s receipt of campaign contributions from China constituted ‘war profiteering’.

    Should he be required to give back some ot the money? All? Ten times as much?

    For the umpteenth time. Do you see disgorgment as a just punishment for ‘war profiteering” Don’t be afraid of the government cheese. There is no trap waiting to spring.

  29. Dugger says:

    Smeant,

    I give you Wikipedia:

    A war profiteer is any person or organization that makes profits (rightly or wrongly) from warfare or by selling weapons and other goods to one or even both of the parties at war in their own or in foreign countries.

    SO why do you want to punish someone in the right? If Joe’s Body Armor works their *sses off , three shifts, over time , to get DOD body armor ahead of schedule, I have NO OBJECTION to their making a profit. God bless ‘em, in fact.

    If they are in the wrong, I think they should be punished acording to existng legal guidelines, which would in turn depend upon the nature of their offense.

    Dugger,

  30. Semanticleo says:

    LAWYER !!!!!

    I guess it’s always the same except when it’s different. Look forward to our next exchange.

    This strikes me as one of the most incoherent faux-debates I have ever seen.
