Know Your Cons

Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh’s nationally syndicated radio show has an estimated audience of nearly 15 million weekly listeners. It is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of radio conglomerate Clear Channel Communications. Limbaugh also authored two books in collaborations with conservative writers: The Way Things Ought to Be (1992) with Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund and See, I Told You So (1993) with WorldNetDaily.com editor Joseph Farah.

Limbaugh regularly feeds his audience a diet of falsehoods, misstatements, distortions, invective, and childish put-downs in service of the conservative movement. During his long reign over the airwaves, Limbaugh has called abortion rights activists “feminazis”, told an African-American caller to “take that bone out of your nose,” referred to prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib as “blow[ing] some steam off, ” and declared that “what’s good for Al Qaeda is good for the Democratic Party.” He touts his close connections to Republicans, claiming that he “[g]ot a big hug” from President George W. Bush during a 2004 White House visit.

Uh, yeah, but what’s new about that? The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.

  2. riffle says:

    He’s a junkie too.

I would say “recovering junkie” but I don’t trust junkies when they say they’re cleaning up… or about anything else, for that matter.

I was going to say “good article” until I realized it wasn’t about Randi Rhodes or Al Franken.

Of course the real differences between Limbaugh and Air Scamerica are: 1) Limbaugh is funny, and 2) Limbaugh doesn’t have to beg for donations.

    Sorry guys. Nice try, though.

  4. neoconsrloopy says:

    You forgot these differences
    3) Limbaugh is a drug addict
    4) Limbaugh lies
    5) Limbaugh’s audience, on average, has a lower IQ than their shoe size.

  5. cellulose says:

Mike, the first two and second two words in the article are “Rush Limbaugh.”

How long did it take you to realize it wasn’t about Randi Rhodes or Al Franken?

  6. dugger1 says:

What a scoop! Progressives don’t like Rush Limbaugh. Think he lies. But you hate all conservatives and think about everybody who disagrees with you lies. Whats the difference? You’ve cried wolf so much that nobody pays attention. I bet you have a macro for this post with a “fill in the blank spot” for the name of the day.

Perhaps, as Air America slides beneath the surface of its cesspool of corruption and venality, having utterly, miserably failed to even appear as a radar blip on Rush’s EIB screen, we have some clue as to this bitterness. But I have an idea for you. Just two words. Ready:

Mime Radio! (Go for it! Ratings can’t be worse than Air America.)

Mime Radio for a Mime audience!

    You go, Dugger!

  8. Semanticleo says:

Have some coffee Frank. Ideas await.

  9. Frank_D says:

    I don’t drink coffee…

How much coffee would it take so that something other than criticizing me might occur to you?

  10. Semanticleo says:

    Frank;

You are like the Singularity of criticism. You are a Black-Hole sucking and consuming all critical masses within your electro-magnetic field.

    Oh, Oh. Too much coffee.

  11. Frank_D says:

I’ve run out of nerves for you to get on. You’d have to take lessons to be an idiot.

Dugger: “What a scoop! Progressives don t like Rush Limbaugh. Think he lies. But you hate all conservatives and think about everybody who disagrees with you lies. ”

We don’t *think* he lies. A glance at mediamatter’s archives will show that we *know* that he lies. Time after time, his words are compared with the actual facts of the case and they don’t match. One or two such incidents could be put down to simple ignorance. But several such instances a week for several years in a row? That’s a pattern. And the pattern says “liar”.

If Air America distorted facts to the same level, I’d say throw the book at them as well. We want *all* liars to be driven off the air, not just our opponents. That’s what differentiates progressives from cons – it’s about right vs wrong, not right vs left.

    rhys,

“A glance at mediamatter s archives will show that we *know* that he lies’

Yes, yes (Media Matters – tedious meter, pegged). And you “know” Bush lies, Cheney lies, etc etc etc. Funny how you “know” all about the millions of liars who disagree with you, but nada about those who agree with you. Perhaps you really believe Media Matters. Perhaps you really believe progressives are organically incapable of lying; perhaps you really believe you can magically divine what goes on in man’s soul so that YOU, uniquely, are able to mind read his thoughts and determine that he is lying. Spare me. I concede you believe Limbaugh lies. I believe he does not lie, can and has been occasionally (anybody would if on the air as long as he and dealing with current events) mistaken, is really funny, makes some very telling criticisms of the left and is very talented. A lot of mainstream America agrees with me. I assume Air America’s listener agrees with you.

And just how do you propose to do that, without suspending the First Amendment?
