If even a bit of this is true, Congressman Jefferson should resign and fade away into shame

Amid the chaos and confusion that engulfed New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck, a congressman used National Guard troops to check on his property and rescue his personal belongings  even while New Orleans residents were trying to get rescued from rooftops, ABC News has learned.

On Sept. 2  five days after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast  Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., who represents New Orleans and is a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, was allowed through the military blockades set up around the city to reach the Superdome, where thousands of evacuees had been taken.

    Josh Marshall posts a reminder that Jefferson’s offices were searched as part of an investigation last month. According to ABC, Jefferson took away computers and documents from his flooded house.

    It should come as little surprise that he is also a DLC member. From the “ultra-liberal” (sarcasm) Human Events Online: Making the case for Democrats is the moderate Democratic Leadership Council. Rep. William Jefferson (D.-La.) has been one of the most outspoken advocates for CAFTA.

     I m supporting CAFTA because I believe it s in the best interests of our country, Jefferson said during a DLC-sponsored teleconference last week.

    Some commenters…well, one accuses OW of refusing to comment on Jefferson because Jefferson is a black Democrat. Now that same commenter is MIA from this thread?

    I think he should be forced to dress as a Republican, i.e., in a suit that costs less than $3000, and forced to go on the Bill Maher show, and appear every night for a month.
