Sadie;
Oh how I wish more people applied that principle.
‘Don’t watch what they say. Watch what they DO!”
Was that Blitzer? I don’t have cable so I can’t keep up with them. Do you think he could have worked a little harder at trying to tease a provocative quote out of Dean, something for the Republicans to take out of context and run with? He kept trying, that’s for sure.
Anyway, Dean did great, the only thing I wish he would have said that he didn’t was “caring isn’t how you feel it’s how you act.”
fyi, your qt doesn’t show up in firefox 1.5 beta
Does work in moz and ie, in firefox 1.5 beta a brief “qt” logo shows up and then disappears. Why do you hate firefox 1.5 beta?
I use firefox 1.5 beta, works fine for me.
Most fascinating.
Alas, I tried to download that file (I don’t do embeds), but it is only a 5k file, and it has no URL’s in it I can download. Sad.
Why delete republican comments that may be hateful or spiteful? Thats one of the reasons to read the comments section. Youre covering up for them, why dont you just let them look like fools?
Speaking of moral leadership, how about taking some leadership making the liberal blogosphere disaster relief effort a success.
Open Letter and Challenge to Oliver Willis
10 days (or 61 posts) ago you mentioned an ambitious project by the liberal blogosphere to raise $1 million dollars for hurricane relief for the people of our ravaged gulf coast. I believe that it is a very noble cause. Unfortunately the effort has p…
True moral leadership involves accountability, Marty.
It’s not just about trying to repair damage and destruction—it’s about ensuring such incompetence and negligence doesn’t happen again.
So, I’d ask you, Marty, why are you busy carrying the water for this admin?
Marty, I’ve got the banner up on my site – people left and right are donating all over the place.
You’re right Oliver. People left and right are donating all over the place. I am one of those people. However, what I am saying Oliver is that you threw out this challenge to the “liberal blogosphere” that I think would be reachable IF you would take the lead, and get your fellow bloggers in the project REALLY in the game. You’ve had time to write 65 posts now and yet haven’t mentioned the project since that one lonely post. Yeah, the banner is there and the one line at the top is there. Easily ignored. (Think about when you go to other sites. Are the banners just side noise to you or do you spend a lot ot time on them?)
Are you serious about the effort or was it just another rhetorical way to say how great the liberal blogosphere is because ‘we’ve got this lovely little fundraiser going where we are going to show those rightys how great we are?’
If you are serious about the effort, then take the lead and reach your goal. “I’ve got the banner on my site” isn’t good enough. You threw out the challenge. LEAD.
NOTE TO JADEGOLD: I’d like to ask you- what exactly in my comment or post do you consider it “carrying water for this administration.” Yes, I have some different opinions on all that is Katrina than you do, but neither of the items I wrote have anything to do with that. Though I rarely agree with Oliver, I respect his ability to use words to get a reaction out of people, good or bad. When he puts out a challenge (which I consider a worthy challenge), I would hope that he put as much effort into that challenge as he does bashing everything Republican/Bush and lauding Democrats. His skill at using words is something that I believe would help that fundraising effort reach its goal.
Marty;
Let’s not be disingenuous here. What you are trying to say is that the conservative blogosphere is
I am assuming since I’m not keeping score)
is ahead of the liberal bloggers in pledged donations.
And you would conclude from that (were it true) what?
A.) Conservatives are more compassionate than liberals
B.) Liberals are not as generous and socially progressive as conservatives.
or C.) All of the above?
I just finished transcribing Howard Dean’s segment on the Ed Shultz show, airdate September 8. Ed is a lot better at letting Howard talk than Randi Rhodes was. They go over some familiar ground, but there’s some new stuff (to me, at least) too.
http://shadowbfa.blogspot.com/
Here’s just a piece of it:
“And I must just say, that it’s not enough just to put the Democrats back in power. I don’t want the same old Democratic party that sat around on its butt and thought that if it was like the Republicans it might win an election once in a while. We’ve got to have real change in this country.”
I go with D.) Conservatives believe in giving to just causes with the money they worked hard to earn. They do, however, take umbrage with da big brodda sticking his hand deep into their pockets and not giving them a choice in the matter.
By the way, Dubya’s tax breaks freed up mo’ money for me to donate to the relief efforts
“Hmmm And who defines just cause ”
The individual doing the giving.
Something you collectivists don’t seem to understand.
Right..
You imply ‘collectivist’ is a perjorative.
In the context of this discussion is ‘giving’ in the altruistic sense. A collectivist is an ‘altruist’ (See Wikipedia)
The sense you wish to convey is that a ‘collectivist’ values the group more than the individual. That is simply not true of me, but it is descriptive of the Republican Party.
Semanticleo- I am saying nothing of a sort. I don’t care who is leading in donations nor am I interested in keeping score. This is not about conservative or liberal for me. This is about Oliver using his writing skills to do something positive.
When he posted that challenge to the “liberal blogosphere” I realize it was just another attempt to take a jab at those of us who come here from the other side. What he was really saying was- hey, look at us! We’ll show those conservative clods how much better we are that them by raising, hmmm, what’s a good number…. I know! A million dollars. That should be easy enough to show them how wonderful we are.
However, I applauded Oliver for what he was saying. I didn’t really care if donations came from the right or the left- as Oliver said, “people left and right are donating all over the place.”
But what I didn’t expect is that would be Oliver’s last post about it. I assumed that he really cared about making the effort a success. And as the effort has stalled, what does Oliver say about it?
“I ve got the banner up on my site.”
Wow. What vision.
For a guy that is always talking about leadership…with the number of readers….and the connections…
Come on Oliver. Let’s see what you really can do!
Turns out that the current released version of adblock was to blame. The new development version of adblock plus (and then with “obj-tabs” turned off) seems to work beta.
Absolutely the best I have ever seen Howard Dean. He delivers a devastating message clearly and effectively and, most importantly, looks measured and calm doing it. He takes Wolf Blitzer’s baiting and effectively blames bush for his failings as President. Not that Katrina is Bush’s fault, not that Bush is racist Bush is classist. Bush doesn’t care about you if you’re not in the top 20 percent no matter what color you are.* If he can lead a charge that looks like this for the next few years, we will be looking good in 2006 and 2008.
Seriously, if he was this smooth two years ago, he’d be President.
* I believe this is not only a great attack, but I believe it’s true. Like Howard says, the President might be a nice man, but his policies are callous to a fault and leave out (or actively screw) 80 percent of the country. And he silently condones actions in his party (even on his behalf) that ARE racist. I think Bush really does want to advance minorites and everyone in this country once they start making six-figures. Those are the only people he’s ever known and the only people he can relate to. He goes to bed every night with a clear conscience that he is helping all Americans. It’s just that it’s only the ones like him. Rich.
