Speaking truth to power. Good for the little guy.

  2. Quaker in a Basement says:

Was he going to say, “Must be a friend of John Kerry’s”?

  3. SadieB says:

C’mon, Frank, is that thow you reacted when Cheney used that exact same language on the Senate floor? Though I have to agree, a year or two in uniform would have done Cheney a world of good, it might have developed his character.

  4. Frank_D says:

Sounds like one of them long haired hippie protesters to me… He oughta get his haircut, and join the Army!

    Hehe

  5. Tuco Ramirez the Rat says:

How dare the Vice President make light of an obviously respectable and astute member of society for telling him to go fuck himself?

Cheney is obviously not erudite enough to recognize the subtle, nuanced, and post-modern dialog that this person was trying to engage the Vice President in.

Just as the Vice President would probably not appreciate the sophistication and artistry behind the scenes of one of the most prominent posters at Democratic Underground attempting to organize a “gang bang” for hurricane relief.

How dare he treat the protestor this way. He should invite him for milk and cookies, so that the Vice President can answer all of his questions.

This protestor should be our new…..Cindy Sheehan!

  6. O.Y.E. says:

Off camera, a protester shouts, “Go f–k yourself, Mr. Cheney. Go f–k yourself.” The camera remains on Cheney while we hear scuffling in the background.

UPDATE: The protestor is recovering nicely in a medical ward in Guantanamo Bay and should regain the use of all 4 limbs in a month or so. For dinner tonight, he’s getting two kinds of fruit — which will be liquified and served through a tube inserted in his toothless mouth.

  7. SadieB says:

OYE, I only wish that was a joke.

  8. JD says:

That is apparently what passes for intellectual debate on the left nowadays. Sad.

  9. frameone says:

“Subtle, nuanced, and post-modern dialog”? “Intellectual debate”?

Let me tell you something guys. There comes a time in politics — as Cheney could probably tell you himself — when “Go fuck yourself” is all the dignity and sophistication your opponent deserves. It usually happens right before the revolution. Watch out folks. Its one thing for kids ina group at a protest to yell obscenities at a politician on a speaking stand or parade. It’s quite another for some dude passing by on the street to get up the balls to say “Fuck youreself” to the vice president who he knows is live on television. I mean think about that. I can’t stand Bush or Cheney but, given the chance to do the same thing, would I? I don’t know. The offices they hold still command a hell of a lot of respect. No longer for this guy, apparently, not anymore. Combine that with Bush’s poll numbers and it looks like the president has lost or is seriously starting to loose the man in the street. Honestly, you have to be pretty pissed AND at the end of your rope to tell the vice president to go fuck himself personally, in his face, live on national TV. Anyone disagree?

  10. Frank_D says:

My statement was a joke, but I hope O.Y.E.’s was true.

  11. Todd B. says:

That is apparently what passes for intellectual debate on the left nowadays. Sad.

Yeah, everyone knows it’s always better to save the f-bombs for the floor of the US Senate… duh.

  12. Todd B. says:

I was passing through the channels this even and, because I live to torture myself, came across Hannity – he was actually advocating fining or pressing charges against the guy who yelled at Cheney. He could hardly wait to ask Shepard Smith if the police caught up with the guy.

How dare he speak ill to the Emperor – he needs to be sent back to re-education, dang it!

  13. JD says:

Yes, frameone, you always manage to show the utmost in respect to the President and Vice President.

  14. frameone says:

That would be respect for the office, JD. The guys currently that office are total idiots. Also I was making a distinction between calling Bush an idiot on a blog and calling Bush an idiot to his face, in person, when he’s surrounded by the trappings of the office. I imagine that would be quite an intimidating scene — although the way Bush and Cheney typically handle their highyl staged managed public appearances it isn’t hard to guess that it is they who are intimidated by the general public.

  15. SadieB says:

Is that true, Frank? You really want to see your fellow Americans tortured? You are really that far gone?

  16. SadieB says:

Is that true, Frank? You really want to see your fellow Americans tortured? You are really that far gone?

And Tuco, I love it when rightists say “post modern.” It’s just so cute. Like a precocious two-year old, trying to impress the grown ups with a word they don’t half understand. Say it again, would you? “Post modern?”

  17. frameone says:

“I love it when rightists say post modern. It s just so cute. Like a precocious two-year old …”

Amen. Tuco, Tuco now say “cultural relativism” …

  18. SadieB says:

If Dick Cheney came to my town, and the stormtroopers let me get within ten feet of him, you better believe I would have some choice words. I think we all would.

The only thing remarkable about this story is that the guy was actually allowed to get close enough to be picked up by the mics. Usually they are much more careful about this. Bush and his men have been taunted by the public everywhere they go, for years, but the media has never let this through before.

  19. JD says:

frameone : that sounds like a fairly accurate portrayal of a coward to me. At least that clown had some nuts and was willing to do it, rather than just spew it anonymously on a blog.

  20. Frank_D says:

SadieB — Yes, I’m that far gone — scary, huh?

    Hehe

  21. frameone says:

“I would have to be right pissed to call someone a fucking idiot to their face”

And yes I do succumb to the lower threshold of anonymous internet posting. Don’t tell me, JD, that would vocalize half the stupid shit you try to pass off as reason here if we were all in the same room.

  22. frameone says:

If you an I ever met on the other hand …

  23. frameone says:

You see there are places I vent and places I don’t. Places I swear and places I don’t. I try to treat everyone I meet with respect even though I might seriously disagree with them. I would have to be right pissed to call someone a fucking idiot to their face — which I have on numerous occassions, especially during election cycles — because I know it tends to shut down any further rational discussion and can lead to a more physical confrontation. But as I have been saying, I don’t think that’s entirely inappropriate. Indeed, sometimes massive irrational venting (hopefully without physical violence) is needed to reach new ground. Sometime you have to light a fire to clear away the dead wood, so to speak. The guy who told Cheney to go fuck himself clearly had reached the breaking point, threw civility to the wind and said what was on his mind. Would he have done the same thing before Katrina? Maybe not. I can guarantee you that before Katrina Cheney would not have appeared anywhere in such a situation where he could have heard someone speaking so bluntly to him. The guy, like Bush, lives in a bubble. If I saw Bush I might be too in awe of the trapping of the president to speak so frankly but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t. The bubble that Bush and Cheney live in practically demands incivility to penetrate it. A good clean “Go fuck yourself” could shock anyone to their senses.

  24. frameone says:

    JD –

Ya, I’m a coward for confesing that I still hold enough fading respect for the office of president not to call Bush a fucking idiot to his face. You know some people, such as yourself, used to call that civility but I guess any port in a storm, right?

  25. JD says:

Sadie B – “I think we all would”. And you would be wrong.

frameone – you have enough respect for the office of the President to write that President Bush is a “fucking idiot” and post it on the internet, but are unwilling to do so in person because that would show a lack of respect?

  26. SadieB says:

Okay JD here’s the difference between you and me — I don’t respect offices or titles or any of that made-up mumbo jumbo. I respect people, or not, depending on the things they say and do. And no, I wouldn’t swear at Cheney, or Bush for that matter, but I would let them know that I disapprove of what they’ve done to my country. I consider that a matter of duty.

Frank, no it’s not scary it’s just sad. I hope for that $100 you gave to Catholic Charities they throw in a prayer or two for your soul.

  27. buma says:

Maybe — Cheney (and where has HE been the past two weeks?) wasn’t guessing the off-camera spokesman was a friend of John, but a friend of Jon. After all, Stewart should ultimately get more mileage from the spokesman’s suggestion than Kerry.

  28. Frank_D says:

SadieB — You humorless, pathetic fool…

    It was a joke, idjit!

Stop being such a dour left – winger, and get a clue!

Didja ever notice that as sarcastic and nasty and insulting as the lefties get on these threads, it’s only the conservatives who joke?

That’s because we’re just living our lives, we’re not on a mission from God!

  29. neoconsrloopy says:

Yea, just think of all those funny wingnut comedians- there is——-ok, noone. Most people don’t think that torturing Americans for speaking out against the VP is all that funny.

  30. Mouse says:

…it s only the conservatives who joke?

We’re not dour Frank, we just don’t think you’re funny. There is a difference.

  31. buma says:

    Frank–
Jesus’ General is funnier than Coulter. Of course your own sense of humor is more likely on a par with some of the LGF snots in the General’s post:

  32. Frank_D says:

Oh, and Loopy, torture can be fun: Ever see Monty Python’s “Spanish Inquisition” skit…

I forgot, liberals never laugh; they’re on a mission from Gaia!

  33. Frank_D says:

    Mouse: I didn’t say I was funny — I said you weren’t!

Loopy, where would they perform? Certainly not on the All – Bush – bashing, all – the – time, Comedy Channel…

And I think Ann Coulter is very funny, but she doesn’t do stand – up…

  34. JD says:

So frameone likes to go around provoking physical confrontations during election cycles. Nice.

“If you and I ever met on the other hand …” For what seems to be intended as some kind of chest thumping threat, I have to admit I am now terrified. I might have to change my name, move, and create a new identity. How sad that when you cannot participate in a discussion that you fee thel need to resort to mindless threats, or even physical confrontation.

I doubt I would be able to vocalize half of my “stupid shit”, because I routinely have these conversations with my liberal friends, and in the end, tend to just get talked over while they all nod their heads in agreement. I suspect that I would be far more civil than most of the people.

  35. Frank_D says:

Actually, BlameBush is funnier than either of them.

Not for any particular reason, but I don’t read Little Green Footballs, unless I read something that links to it.

The amount of stereotyping you lefties do is unbelievable. You guys tell me what I read, what I watch on TV, what I listen to on the radio, and yet you’re always wrong. Do you think that your inability to fathom the conservative mind is why you keep losing election after election?

It is worth thinking about, IMHO.

  36. buma says:

The amount of stereotyping you lefties do is unbelievable. You guys tell me what I read, what I watch on TV, what I listen to on the radio, and yet you re always wrong. — so says Frank_D.

Having read my own post and then reading yours, I have to say you are doing the stereotyping. I did not say what you read, watch or listen to.

  37. Frank_D says:

If you weren’t implying that I read LGF (or Jesus’ General) then I was mistaken — about you.

Your post was also meaningless — to me.
